I loved the balance between action and horror in Dead Space.

Give me more of both, not less of one and more of the other.

I have high hopes for DS2, worried though.

... and yeah couldn't care less about Dante's Inferno

Agreed. The atmosphere is what really catapulted Dead Space into great game territory. Focusing more on the action, I fear, will drop the second game into generic action 3rd person shooter.

Resident Evil 5 focused more on the action, and I thought that was a terrible game. If what he says is true, Dead Space 2 just went from a must-buy to a probably won't even rent.

yeah RE5 was easily the worst RE game in the franchise. Fun fun game, but awful survival horror game and it didnt even attempt at being scary, they just gave up I guess.

agreed. DS was dripping with atmosphere. there were rooms that had my heart pumping like crazy, and by the time I got to the end of them I realized they were completely empty...and then BAM something would caome at me when I was ready to take a deep breath.

If they are going for action I gotta say I'm less excited now.

The title of this article should be "Visceral ruins Dead Space franchise, gambles job security" since thats the only interesting thing in the article.

This is the stupidest thing Ive ever heard. Why are they trying to be like Resident Evil when Dead Space's best known feature is being BETTER than Resident Evil? Resident Evil represents everything thats wrong with horror games, Dead Space represents what horror shooters should be.

I guess Dead Space being good was clearly nothing more than a fluke, they must have seriously thought Dead Space Extraction was a good idea and werent just trying to do an easy cash-in.

Watched a friend play a review copy the other night.

Dunno if talking about Dante's Infero would constitute spoilers are not, given the book.

But the game is kinda ho-hum, fun in a sense, but not really worth buying. When you get to the 8th circle, you stop adventuring through Hell and just do a bunch of Trials of Olympus-esque challenges after being shown a statue and told a phrase that relates to the sub-circle you're in. It is really repetitive and some of the trials are down right stupid (stay in the air for 8 seconds, protect INNOCENTS (innocents in hell, wtf) from monsters).

It's like they wanted to do Challenge Maps but ran out of time, being that they have to get it out before God of War 3, and just swapped out the longest circle in favor of a bunch of dumb challenge maps.

The end boss, Satan/Lucifer/whatever, is incredibly simple and boring and he actually yells in pain and feels threatened. It's no different from all the other boss fights in the game, and is actually worse than them. He just walks around saying human-ish stuff, while you chip off his health for an hour.

The ending has a lot of naked man ass and ends with a "To Be Continued", to allow a sequel.

THE MOST EMBARRASSING THING, THOUGH

IS AFTER YOU BEAT THE GAME

YOU'RE GIVEN A TRAILER FOR THE DLC

A TRAILER FOR DLC AND THE GAME ISNT EVEN IN STORES YET

In the end, I'd say weekend rental at BEST, don't drop $60 on it now, because by Christmas Dante's Inferno will be like $10 or $15 in a bargain bin. Like Army of Two is, currently.

It really isn't worth buying at full price, imo. Save that money for one of the really significant games coming out in these months.

On some sort of arbitrary number scale, I'd say like 5.5 or 6.0 out of 10

Downvoted for Spoliers and the game ISNT EVEN OUT YET.

And check your fire their "DeadEye" because your aim is way off.

Yeah, it's a trailer for DLC to be released at the end of April.

DLC that merely includes an extra character for the co-op Trial creator that their adding. It has nothing to do with the main story of the game. It's simply and extra feature. It's also DLC that NO ONE has made any mention of a price yet. (Free or otherwise.)

So chill out.

On another note. I'm (obviously) excited for Dante's Inferno. I'm also more excited for Dead Space 2. Wake up people! Dead Space is a great game!

No, it's just silly.

"We really wanted to bring multiplayer to Dante's Inferno"

Well, uh, why not just put it in the bleeding game instead of charging more for it.

I also wasn't aware I was not allowed to talk about a game until you allow it, but okay, defense force GO!

Jesus, who cares about mulit in Dante's Inferno? I wouldn't have played that even if it were included for free because it sounds like an awful addition. So if it's such a big deal, don't buy it. I know I won't, could care less if it was suppose to be in the game from the start. vOv

Also it's not nearly as offensive as Assassin's Creed 2 leaving two memory chunks blank and then stating "Well we thought if we included those missions for free, we would have been giving you TOO MUCH, so uh, you have to pay us more now."

"Thanks for spoiling the game, dip...."

It's based of a bleeding book. You know how that is going to end! I did leave out all the little plot elements involving Dante personally, created for the game, because that would be unfair.

"And I can smell a pirate from miles away. "

Do you always assume the worst about everyone? It was no pirated copy, he was connected to Xbox Live and was earning achievements. You get 100G for beating the game, on any difficulty.

The point of my post was to make it clear the end of the game is a mega rush job. It's actually slightly entertaining for a bit, but once you get towards the end, ugh.

There's also this really really silly rhythm based mini-game you have to play constantly to get bonus points to spend on your powers, many of which mirror God of War, but with crosses.

Ahh, I see YOU'RE still here. I trust you actually READ the review. Who am I kidding? Of course you have. I just wanted to point out the lady who who wrote this review also stated towards the end the same point I was attempting to convey:

"But that fact is this game's saving grace. Let's not forget that the God of War titles are great, and in aping them so closely Dante's Inferno has ended up with some redeeming features. Punching, slicing, chopping and hacking your way through hordes of horned enemies is fundamentally enjoyable. The suitably gory animations make it rewarding, regardless of whether you're button-mashing or bothering to pull off the proper combos.

Also, there are some entertaining set-pieces and great visuals. Plenty of inspiration has been taken from the source material and this vision of Hell is at times truly grisly, atmospheric and harrowing. With that in mind, it's almost possible to ignore how depressing it is that even when you're in the darkest, fieriest bowels of Hell, surrounded by the agonised screaming of a thousand tormented souls, you still have to push a crate to open a door. "

And pay close attention attention to that last line. Because rather than on Mount Olympus or on the back of a Titan, you still have to push a crate to open a door.

Agreed, agreed & agreed. The thing that made Dead Space such a hit with me was the horror side of it; not knowing what was going to happen & death around most every corner. It really sounds like they are neutering the very thing that made it special.

I too am disappointed that they plan to take the game in that direction. I've played through Dead Space 5 times on both ps3 and 360, gotten every achievement and I can honestly say the least enjoyable parts of the game were the high action parts and the stupid cannon shooting parts.

The solitude of space is what made the atmosphere (or the lack of one) in Dead Space so great.

Sums up my thoughts completely. I don't care about Dante's Inferno, but I hope it sells well for Visceral's sake. I've been excited for Dead Space 2 ever since I picked up the first day one, yet everything I've heard about it so far has me worried that it'll be a much different beast than the first. Here's hoping my concerns are unfounded.

I'm in the same boat. When they come out and blatantly say that they are focusing more on the action than the horror, it makes me sad. I don't want to be "empowered". I don't want to feel "badass". I want to be startled, scared, and frustrated. I want SURVIVAL-horror, not HALO-horror.

The founders of the studio, and original creators of DS left Visceral to create Sledgehammer games over at Activision. So that's probably why DI and DS2 sound so uninspired.

Yes, the disc swapping doesnt affect your progress. As far as I can tell, certain parts of the game couldn't fit on the disc. The only time you can't go back is after you start the "suicide mission" and jump through the relay.

I feel the same way. I'm craving for more ME2 content right now. Apparently there is going to be a new squad-mate, new armor + weapon, and the hammerhead, all being released for free on the Cerberus network.

A Mass Effect 2 expansion pack would be sweat, though I expect them to release it near Q4 of this year.

I really hope Bioware learns from the GTA4 dlc success and gives us a good chunk of story to play through and hopefully open up more areas of the cities (the puny citadel area was lame). Cheap short DLC is a waste of money, I would rather spend $20 on quality DLC that feels like a new game instead of $5 on an hour long mission. The Episodes of Liberty City as far as Im concerned has been the only worthwhile DLC to come out (not counting songs from rock band).

Don't forget that this is NOT the same team that did Dead Space 1 at all. I am also against DS2 being an action game, but I'm also worried about where these guys are planning on taking the storyline. The story outside of the original writer's hands.. I'm dubious

It seems like EA is pushing for a cookie cutter action 3rd Person title to increase the game's marketability. Look at Clark's new Sci-Fi Action Hero V-neck costume for example. It's very flashy, but that's hardly the utilitarian design that made the last game so believable. (and frankly, its less iconic imo) I like my astronauts awkward and stompy, thank you.

I could go on...
