Funny thing is, this game will be better than the third person shooter Mass Effect 2.

I'm sorry you have no video game skills to speak of :(

I mean that's what you want us to gather from this comment, right? You suck so bad at any twitch-action gaming that you can't handle an RPG whose combat actually requires a degree of skill from the player for once.

@tmac

Less than flattering. Normally I'd say five reviews are too few to constitute a decent metascore, but if even IGN won't throw you a bone... guess Level 5 wasn't looking to buy any banner ads?

Or it could just be that it's a generic borderline bad jrpg, which I've said forever now it would be.

If IGN was the only one giving it a bad score then maybe you'd have a point, but just about everyone is.

You know the nice thing about owning and enjoying multiple systems? You are able to be a little more open minded and impartial. You don't feel the need to belittle something because you can't have it, or build something way up because it is all that is available to you. It just so happens to be the nice thing about being over 12 years old as well. Grow up! I'm looking forward to this game, and am also enjoying mass effect 2 way more than mass effect the first.

Normally I don't agree with tmac, because he comes off as a troll (and I think he's being downvoted simply because of his history), but he's right. This game took WAY too long to come out, and it seems like an incredibly boring game with PS2 gameplay and graphics. We have so many other RPGs coming out at the same time, not to mention Bioshock 2, Heavy Rain, FFXIII, and GOWIII all coming out in the next 30 days.

Kind of hard to compare it to Mass Effect but its undeniably Level 5 (if you like them of Jeanne D'Arc fame) and is really a solid game. I'm maybe 5 or so hours into the game so not enough to judge it as a whole. But, the combat is actually pretty nice and requires some quick thinking. It's basically Monster Hunter with pseudo turn based combat and a better storyline. It's not for everyone but in terms of RPGs go it offers a lot in the way of content and gameplay. So far I'd give it an 8/10 ... I would love to see Level 5 make Jeanne D'Arc 2 on the PS3 and have it be something similar to the best console RPG this generation, Valkyria Chronicles.

Via VG247? You don't read the Playstation blog to get announcements when they're... announced?

I don't think they've clarified if the "Makeover ticket" is purely cosmetic, or allows for a re-spec, but Kumi *has* clarified that it's $5 each time. Seems kinda silly, I don't even give my Fallout 3 character free haircuts. That's what hats are for.

I didn't know Nathan Drake, Ezio, War, Ratchet, etc.. were bald Space-marines.

Oh, and if you are talking about Mass Effect 2, you are very ignorant. Guess what? You can play as a fully haired character, You can even play as a female.

I know it is hard for you guys to think of an argument since you know I'm right. But at least put some effort into it. Most FPS games aren't even in Space either. I don't care for FPS games at all anyways. But your old and tired arguments just make you guys look like idiots.

I really love this game got it yesterday and I am about 15 hours in, but to respond to tmac about the meta reviews well all I can say is this personally I think the story is well told, and that it's a fun game, I personally believe though that those reviews come from the idea that people just didnt like the combat. Most of the time you wait for your action circle to fill up then attack but if you can pull it off right you can pull of a 10 to 15 hit combo with multiple techniques if your good at it. IGN for example said the combat was lackluster due to the fact that you always had to wait for your next attack but if your good enough at the game your usually pulling of combos and only waiting like 3 secs after your combo ends to attack again. It's kind of like an mmo battle system.
Only advice I can give is if you love jrpgs and their over the top stories then get this game if you don't well there is no harm done but you probably missing out on a great game in my opinion but hey that is just my opinion.

It's not just the combat that reviewers have a problem with. It's the bad generic story and characters as well (which really who didn't see coming, it's a jrpg).

They also say it's just not fun at all to play. There's not many more damning criticisms to make about a game.

This comment thread proves how insecure JRPG fanboys are these days. Sorry, but people are fed up with old gameplay, and story conventions that should have died in the PS2 era.

tmac, it seems like all the reviews liked the story because of how it was layered. as generic as it is, it still seems like they like it.

"people are fed up with old gameplay"

I've never understood this statement. Obviously, since so many people are saying it, there is some segment of the population for whom it is true, but I can't imagine it must be the case for most people, much less an overwhelming majority. I liked linear RPGs in the PS2 era, and I still like them now. Just like I liked scrolling shoot'em-ups in the 80s, and I still like them now (I'm really hoping Darius Burst gets localized). I liked pinball when I was a kid, and now that I'm actually pretty good at it, I like it even more now. Why does something being "old" necessarily mean no one wants to do it anymore? I don't see people getting sick and tired of celebrating a whole day of Super Bowl madness every year anytime soon, but that's been going on for decades. Certainly, facets of old RPGs are annoying now, but they were annoying back then, too (e.g., attacking empty space in FF1, having to face a direction before talking in DQ1, password saves). These kinds of things should change, but I don't think "linear" or "turn-based" inherently means "not fun."

Note: I'm not specifically talking about WKC here; I have not played it, nor have I read any of the reviews.

Take a look at all of the JRPGs metacritic from this gen. I'll wait.

Ok, Lost Odyssey I think is the highest with 78 (i could be wrong though). The point is western critics tend to give JRPGs bad scores. It's nothing new.

The games don't have guns or space marines, which every "good" game needs to have nowadays.

They give them bad scores because they're all bad games. There's been 0 jrpgs worth mentioning this gen so far.

That's Japan's fault, not the western media.

Technically it doesn't count, as it has its own genre: SRPG (strategy rpg). Games like that, FF tactics, Valkyria Chronicles etc all go there.

JRPG = Japanese Role Playing Game. Jeanne D'Arc and Valkyria Chronicles are both JRPGs that are strategy based. Still take turns when attacking and coordinate a party. Most JRPGs are released on the DS & PSP. Stop trolling.

There's at least $50 worth of Georama stuff on there. I can't tell if it's all accessible in a time consuming matter, or if there's special real money only items.

Think Home, in terms of content and price.

I don't believe the $5 re-customize ticket applies to anything other than cosmetics. Especially since the instruction manual points out how to re-spec your character after you reach level 35-50.
