Amen to that. In many ways it seems that this generation is just beginning to hit its' stride; and many of the quality new IPs are finding their audience on the 360 and PS3 (the Wii is another subject - not taking a shot, just sayin'). There's lots of new stuff in every genre coming down the pike.

On a completely unrelated note I just finished ME2 and I simply cannot believe how epically awesome that experience was. And that was just one playthrough.

Golden age of gaming right now boys and girls.

In an unrelated note, reasons to buy a 360 are piling up. It seems that you gotta own both consoles these days.

Yeah, if the gameplay is half as good as this game looks, I will pick it up.

I love FPS horror games like this.

You hear that, THQ? Don't deliver an unplayable game and you have my $60.

THQ has really stepped their game up. This game gives me a Fallout vibe which is a very good thing. I think 360 owners may have themselves a sleeper hit on their hands. Sounds awesome.

I think this game is really pretty and would like to play on the PC but gamerscore really tugs at me. Its basically a gamerscore Vs best possible graphics(got a really good card to ensure that). Joystiq readers I ask you to choose for me.

I think games like this benefit more on the PC because these devs already have a huge following. So you will get mods for this down the line and a few years from now the inevitable (graphics upgrade) mod.

A better gaming experience, or a slightly larger e-penis.

Obviously go for the PC version.

(E-penises are pointless. There are no e-vaginas to use them with.)

Looks good, and I'm sure several people have pointed this out already, but how is this not S.T.A.L.K.E.R. ? Similar premise, Russian accents, guns and monsters: it just wreaks of similarities to that other THQ game.

Well the dev team consists of former members of the people who made STALKER so yeah there are quite a few similarities.

This is more scripted though from what I've heard, and more linear. It's like STALKER meets Half-Life basically. Sounds really good. I'll pick this one up in the summer.

To be fair, Metro 2033 was an online novel (originally posted in 2002) that was published in paperback in 2005. Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl was published in 2007. If anything, Stalker is more likely title to be accused of "taking inspiration" from Metro 2033 than vice versa. But that said, the Stalker franchise focused more on Chernobyl being a relatively contained accident, and Metro 2033 sounds more like a nuclear winter scenario which implies worldwide environmental change. It's a much bigger scale.

All that aside, wikipedia claims that Stalker took inspiration from a 1979 novella/movie (Roadside Picnic/Stalker, respectively) so you can pretty much see that no one, anywhere, has ever had an original idea, because someone, somewhere, thought of it first.

It's best to enjoy games for what they are, don't worry about inspiration or intellectual theft.

@freaparn

Stalker is based on a novel by famous Soviet Sci-Fi writers, brothers Strugatsky- its a very moody and serious book about a man with special abilities that was really commentary on the intertness of human spirit behind the Iron Curtain. The book was semi-underground, so all Russians know about it.

Metro 2033 looks like a Half-Life skin, but being about the Moscow, I will be paying attention to this one. I didnt see any exploding barrels though.

Huh. This reminds me in a curious way of a cross between S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Resident Evil 4 - and I mean that as a compliment.

Will have to keep an eye on this one.

This game is (hopefully) going to rock. I believe I read somewhere that a lot of the staff from STALKER are onboard for the development of this. Can anyone confirm that? Either way, METRO2033 is looking like it may be one of those titles that comes out of nowhere and bites everyone in the ass.
