It seems the marketing team behind Dante's Inferno hasn't burnt out yet, with several ASCII art campaigns popping up in the source code for several popular websites. All direct to the same Dante's Inferno site.
The first image (above) appeared in digg's code, as noted by brentcsutoras, and other sites like IGN, GameSpot and Kotaku also had their source code altered to display Dante-related images. It's one of the cuter, somewhat classier approaches to this title's marketing, and that makes it oddly noteworthy.
If you're wondering why there's nothing in our source code (we're checking now just to make sure) ... we don't let anyone touch that. We consider it to be at least third base and you really have to get to know Joystiq before it's prepared to take the relationship to that level.

Why? This is awesome -- sure beats Dragon Age's marketing on Digg....

I would imagine EA really needs this to be a success, to help validate their new IP push better.

Don't hate...this is actually one of the cooler publicity stunts that have been made for this game.

This is beautiful and creative. Those that don't think so aren't.

They are putting a lot of effort into a game that is ultimately going to fail.

Target Marketing is targeting marketing. Multiple markets, most profitable markets... why wouldn't they be after that crowd? Do you think WWE fans wouldn't have played Halo or God of War?

Btw, Dante's Inferno is interesting for those who cant play GoW 3 for obvious reasons. I made it to the psycho babies with knifes instead of hands. Its GoW 2.5 but crazier. Limbo rules.

Another amazing marketing stunt by the Dantes Inferno team. Anyone not buying this game deserves to be shot for destroying the industry.

The marketing is brilliant, original and inventive. Too bad the game doesn't appeal to me.

While I am by no means a fan of the constant publicity stunts that have resulted from this ("Oh, and be sure to make all the Dante's Inferno protest signs have a huge and legible 'EA' logo on them. Those angry religious folk are always sure to do that!) I do have to give their marketing people credit for their sheer tenacity.
Its as though they would walk through Hell for you.
