Konami announced yesterday that Upper Deck had been forced to settle with the company after allegedly printing hundreds of thousands of faked Yu-Gi-Oh! cards in China and bringing them stateside. On any other day, this news would just be kind of funny, but it's elevated by attorney for Upper Deck Richard Howell who said "At this point, Upper Deck doesn't have a lot of Life Points. We're talking about behavior that, from a defense attorney's standpoint, I can't defend and I am not going to defend. I'm here defending a counterfeiter. And now I have to deal with that issue."
That's right: Life Points. Dude learned enough about Yu-Gi-Oh! to drop Yu-Gi-Oh! references. Man, that's the kind of lawyer you want to have. ... Unless, we guess, you're Upper Deck, in which case, it seems like you probably could have chosen a guy that didn't tell people how guilty you were.

I'm not 100% sure about this, but I always belived that the cards were always printed by Konami, but were just distributed be Upper Deck. That would explain why UD was never mentoned on the actual cards themselfs.

I'll stick to playing VS system and heroclix :]
(although i do have yugioh and pokemon cards)
Why would a company make fake cards? Wouldn't it cost them the same to just print real ones, or am i missing something here?

Their first mistake was pirating cards they had licence to legally print.
Then they hired a lawyer that threw them to the dogs.
How do these guys put their pants on every morning without strangling themselves with them?

I just think its awesome how this shit works. You like lame cartoons as a kid, hate them in mid teens, then around 18-19 it becomes cool to start watching that shit again.
I remember a few years back, when I was 18 I just watched a shit ton of yugioh, DBZ, and even some pokemon and enjoyed the crap out of it, and it was a lot of the same stuff I used to watch 9-10 years earlier.
Funny how life is.
....Excuse me while I go watch some Digimon.

Yeah, it's awesome when you first realize it and get to re-live your love of all those classic things. :)
...And then Hollywood realizes you have an exploitable weakness for nostalgia and the next thing you know Michael Bay is directing some murky explosionfest bearing your beloved franchise's name and smearing its name in the eyes of the public.
Just you think about that, before you get too comfortable re-watching the Duelist Kingdom arc again. Imagine what Michael Bay would do to it...
