- Game Daily (80/100): "Rounding out this impressive package are a series of cut scenes (both 2-D animation and 3-D computer generated movies) ... Obviously, critics will obsessively compare Dante's Inferno to other games, or complain about the quick time events, but don't let those nitpicky issues prevent you from experiencing this imaginative and fun adventure. It's one Hell of a good time."
- IGN (75/100): "Dante's Inferno takes a bold, visually impressive take on a literary classic and adds in an intriguing action focus to create a different kind of action title. Unfortunately, some derivative combat sequences and a shallow combo system prevent the title from becoming a truly great experience."
- Eurogamer (60/100): "But you can't ignore the fact this is a God of War clone at its core, and many of the ideas here feel tired, familiar and dated. Nor can you ignore the fact that God of War III is nearly here. If it's a toss-up between that game and this one, as it probably will be for PS3 fans, you're best off waiting to see how Kratos' next adventure turns out."
- 1UP (C+): "The game is filled with lots of good and well-executed ideas, but they all seem to exist independently of one another. It's a popcorn movie that clearly took a good deal of talent to pull together, but comes up short of creating the grand adventure that it seems to be trying for."
Metareview: Dante's Inferno
159
Dante's Inferno isn't the best damn game out there, but it's not a hellish experience either. The game, which re-imagines ... is loosely based upon ... has some ephemeral connection to the literature, still delivers entertainment, according to reviews. Perhaps the sequel will be a more heavenly experience?

I think Destructoid mentioned 8 hours on average. Rental indeed :/
But AFTER GoW3. Sorry to make the comparison, but after replaying GoW collection and then Darksiders... I am afraid if I get this now I will be burned out on that type of gameplay when G3 actually hits.

Yeah you don't think it's worth it yet? Just wait until they make the movie based on the tv series based on the book based on the game based on the poem based on the theology, then you'll really wish you bought this!

I enjoyed the demo, didn't even know about any of the DLC until yesterday.
I'm purchasing it along side GoW3, so it's not like I'm picking sides.
And I don't listen to any of these reviewers, seeing as I picked up White Knight, fell in love with it, came on here to nothing bad terrible reviews... followed by people acting like sheep. "Im not getting this game now, 6/10? What a mediocre game that I have yet to even play for myself, and rely on these 'Gods of Gaming" known as reviewers to make my decision for me.

well czar a lot of people here don't have unlimited funds for gaming and have to rely on reviews of others to make good decisions about what game to buy.
If you only had $60 to buy one game would you take a chance on a game that got a 6?
or would you take a chance on a game that got a 9?
Now I have to wonder why you took a chance on WKC. Was it the package design, screen shots? or was it the previews that came from the same reviewers you don't pay attention to? Why would you listen to previews but not reviews? Why even read reviews if you are just going to disregard them?

White Knight came from my love of Level 5 games. I knew they'd make something that I'd enjoy, and they did. The only videos I watched before buying was the intro trailer, and town creation video. No real gameplay footage.
Unlimited funds = A job.
Previews are different than a Review.
Reviews can paint a black and white picture, but without experiencing it yourself, you're missing it's true colors.
Previews help create your own opinions: Usually cut-scenes with gameplay/key elements.

sounds good czar but in reality, a job does not = unlimited funds.
I'm a professional making a decent living in the field I studied in. But still, games are luxuries. Between the necessities, bills, saving, and other hobbies, we can't all buy every single game that interests us. perhaps you can, but understand that we are not all in the same boat, so some of us rely on reviews.
When I first saw footage for dead space, I thought, "this looks very very generic." but then I read nothing but reviews raving about how it dethroned resident evil. So I picked it up, and wouldn't you know my initial response to the game was way off. the game was awesome.
I thought the first assassin's creed was boring, but reviews across the board were giving it nothing but praise. So I gave it a chance, and personally I thought it was as good as Uncharted 2! I was blown away!
sure I've disagreed with reviews before but that's mostly because of taste. I hate Halo but I'll admit it's very well made and is deserving of it's 9's
you can't just say reviews are pointless, especially when they are pointing out facts of the game.
also keep in mind that these are pretty good reviews for dante's inferno, a 75% is still above average.

Space,
I think the point remains that a review shouldn't discourage you from getting a game that you wanted until you saw the score (unless the game is completely and utterly broken or something, I suppose).

Pretty much what I expected. After playing the demo I would describe it as God of war....except without the fun. Visceral really let themselves down with this one. Hopefully they can redeem themselves with dead space 2.

After seeing this? Many of them that were tossing up between the two preferred to wait for GOW3 anyway, this only further adds a nail to the coffin.

For me, I can say that there was never a toss up between either choosing this or GOW 3...the only toss up was as to whether I would get Dante's Inferno in addition to GOW 3. WIthout a doubt GOW 3 was always going to be purchased. Matter of fact, it has already been preordered and paid off!

I know I'll be skipping it for God of War 3. I can only take so many hack and slashers in 1 quarter. I've only played Darksiders, but there's been that, Bayonetta, and now Dante's Inferno to go along with GoW3 next month. Too many of 1 genre in a short time.

Its funny to think I've been here since 2004/5 and never been banned (NVM what it says on profile, I have an older account), yet there are people who have been banned and returned hundreds of times in that timespan, lol

He just got banned again in the White Knight Chronicles review thread for trolling. I've lost count but I think he's been banned 6 times since September of last year. If he stopped all the trolling it wouldn't be an issue but it seems every ban seems him further down the rabbit hole.

@Dreaded Fear
I was banned for something totally different. Been banned a total of 2 times from Blogsmith Networks in about 4-5 years. Once was for having a discussion about a hot button social issue on Joystiq and once was for calling out (rather unfairly actually and a deserved banning) an editor of one of their blogs.

With current game reviewing practices, yes. I don't like it either, but that's the way it is. These days a game is shit if it scores 60/100 or below.
(This is also the reason why I like 1up's reviews, since they assign a letter grade instead of a numerical grade, and Joystiq's, since they don't give scores at all.)

Don't care. Still getting it. A 'C+' to a 'B' isn't bad and that Eurogamer chic ranted on about Tits being in the game for most of her review. So that one doesn't count for me.
I still don't understand how if it's a GoW "Clone (a person or thing that duplicates, imitates, or closely resembles another in appearance, function, performance, or style)", then how is it so much worse than GoW? But honestly, if God of War 3 is just the same as the other 2 (which wouldn't be a bad thing), I'm curious to see if any reviews callanything about the game "dated".

That Eurogame reviewer seems like a very bitter person. Just reading the first couple of paragraphs makes you wonder if she even enjoys her job.
She also somehow managed to say tits and asses probably more times than the amount of tits and asses appear in Dante's Inferno.

It'd be one thing if everyone was claiming that Dante's Inferno was "attempting" to copy God of War. But they're not even making that distinction.
They're just saying "It's a clone of God of War" "It's just like that other game...".

I fully agree. Me being a GOW fan can say that this game is so close to GOW that it delivers almost 100% of the same experience. It amazes me how poorly and unfairly this game is getting rated. And even though I can also agree that GOW is better.... I hontestly don't think its ahead of DI by the huge margin most will have you to believe. I wasn't sure about getting this until I played the demo (and yes I also have GOW3 demo), and this is just as enjoyable...only difference I notices was that the GOW3 demo appears to be abit more polished than DI.

Exactly my thoughts. Why does it being just like GoW make it a bad thing? I feel like if you truly think the GoW games are fun, then more of the same would be a GOOD thing, not bad.
I also think it's funny that she complains about tits so much and then recommends we wait for another game, one that has sex-minigames and puts tits on every boss fight it can.
