- Game Daily (80/100): "Rounding out this impressive package are a series of cut scenes (both 2-D animation and 3-D computer generated movies) ... Obviously, critics will obsessively compare Dante's Inferno to other games, or complain about the quick time events, but don't let those nitpicky issues prevent you from experiencing this imaginative and fun adventure. It's one Hell of a good time."
- IGN (75/100): "Dante's Inferno takes a bold, visually impressive take on a literary classic and adds in an intriguing action focus to create a different kind of action title. Unfortunately, some derivative combat sequences and a shallow combo system prevent the title from becoming a truly great experience."
- Eurogamer (60/100): "But you can't ignore the fact this is a God of War clone at its core, and many of the ideas here feel tired, familiar and dated. Nor can you ignore the fact that God of War III is nearly here. If it's a toss-up between that game and this one, as it probably will be for PS3 fans, you're best off waiting to see how Kratos' next adventure turns out."
- 1UP (C+): "The game is filled with lots of good and well-executed ideas, but they all seem to exist independently of one another. It's a popcorn movie that clearly took a good deal of talent to pull together, but comes up short of creating the grand adventure that it seems to be trying for."
Metareview: Dante's Inferno

Dante's Inferno isn't the best damn game out there, but it's not a hellish experience either. The game, which re-imagines ... is loosely based upon ... has some ephemeral connection to the literature, still delivers entertainment, according to reviews. Perhaps the sequel will be a more heavenly experience?

I plan on getting this game despite the reviews and despite God of War 3.
Why?
Because I don't own a PS3.

No, I'm not saying that either. 7.5 isn't a "bad score", it's a mediocre or average score, in my book (sometimes a bit above average). I'm saying that instead of showcasing any sort of higher reviews, they chose to showcase the lower ones.
That's my point. There are plenty of other reviews, that score it in the mid 8's or low 8's, some in the 9's, and about 3-4 that score it at 7 or below. Instead of choosing from the wide variety of 8's they had available, or the brass amount of other scores, they only posted the lowest of the lows. THAT, is my point.

It should be obvious that Joystiq opted for more well known reviewer sites.
Also, there are fewer mid-80's scores on the PS3 aggregate (although more 90's).
The straight 80's scores are also copious.
Considering that the averages are 75 for 360 and 77 for PS3, showing the highest being 80 is not that bad of a thing. In fact, statistically it sounds more sound, considering those upper scores skew averages.

With all the hype for this title I figured it would get a better meta score, still not a big deal for me as I wasn't planning on getting it anyway.

I absolutely loved the demo. The atmosphere itself is just so appealing to me. I'm not sure if the reviewers are nitpicking by calling it derivative though...I just see the game for what it is and dammit I had so much fun playing the demo.

I'm getting DI, despite those lame reviews, and despite all the haters -- mostly the GoW religious camp.
Getting the Divine Edition for the PS3.

I own the game, birthday gift so im cool with it, the only things I have any beef with is, they should of made the character more of a defensive character as appose to being acrobatic, i mean come on this guy is a knight for all sense of the word, we should of been able to build up armor that maybe slows his movements down but beefed up his defensive side with defensive spells.
Other then that I am cool with it, I have yet to beat it though I believe im in the 3rd circle of hell.
anyways Viseral did good with the game I feel, but I am however slightly saddened with their take on DeadSpace 2 , and make it more action packed.

The more I read about this game the more people seem to score it as average, because it's a "god of war clone".
Which, to me is great, because I never played the GoW series; it never appealed to me where as Dante's Inferno does.
Looks like it should be a good buy for me at least.

Well I have a 360, and not a ps3. It seems like this is the only option I have for getting my share of violence in action gameplay. I've been playing a lot of shooters and I'm ready for an action game. I can't play gow and I have actually never played any of them so di appeals to me and I'm buying it soooooo...
