Although I really like Rust in Peace, I have to kindly disagree with you. As far as Megadeth goes, yes. I think Defenders of the Faith takes that crown.

I would agree. I would say this album and Slayer's Season in the Abyss are definitely high on the list of greatest metal albums of all time.

So awesome, 2nd best metal album ever. Thank you Harmonix for the inevitable broken guitar/broken fingers from trying to play these on expert. Best update ever!

Master of Puppets, easily. It's just sad that the only chance anyone ever had of topping that album was 20 years ago, as no current band or future band at this rate will top it.

Ha ha, Master Of Puppets isn't even remotely as good as RIP. Besides, it's only got like four actual thrash songs on it. Go here, read Ultra Boris's review, that will explain why you're wrong. It's too long to post here.

Metal is not solely restricted to Thrash, that's an extremely limited mindset. And you show me one nobody as "proof" of why "i'm wrong". I can bring up countless quotes from metal bands of that era and industry people, whether they be producers or media people, that agree with me.

I know it's cool to hate Metallica because they eventually sold out, but I don't let that cloud my judgement in regards to their early work. Their first 4 albums defined and perfected the heavy metal genre, and it's why they are laregly considered to be the greatest heavy metal group ever.

Of course there's always going to be internet people who disagree because it's cool, just like there's people who actually think Michael Jordan isn't the greatest basketball player.

Forgot to add, don't take that as a slight against Megadeth. 2nd place in anything worth mentioning is nothing to scoff at, and still good enough to get into a hall of fame.

i dissagree there. its true that MOP might be a good metal album, but if you ask anyone they will say that metallica and megadeth are known for their thrash. they are both part of the big 4. and most people will say that thier first 4 albums are thrash. but i think MOP is verry slowed down, not very creative in some cases, and is just.... kind of boring for some songs. and no, its not exactly cool to hate metallica, but its reallly hard after they basically shot themselves with thier country song. yeah, i think weve ALL heard 'mama said'.

And Justice or Ride The Lightning easily surpass MoP. There's some great songs, sure, but the musicianship just doesn't approach the prequel and the sequel.

But yeah, good week eh? I can't wait to play Tornado of Souls.

I agree that Master of Puppets is the best. It is heavy as hell and is probably one of the most influential albums in metal. Also, it is Metallica's best album and this is what really brought the greatness of thrash metal full swing. I can listen to that album in its entirety and not be bored. It has some slow parts, but that's not a band thing because they placed them well. And as far as solos, I think Kirk writes much better solos than Mustaine. I love both bands to deth, and while Mustaine's solos are usually very fast and technical, Kirk's solos have way more feeling and they fit every song perfectly. Honestly, on RIP there are only a few solos I like, and the best one was written by Marty (Tornado of Souls).

Oh, and that Ultra Boris review is terrible. He basically curses a lot and says Master of Puppets is bad because it has some slower songs like Sanitarium and The Thing That Should Not Be....and he even says Damage Inc. is bad. That song is fast, furious, and just damn awesome. Just because Metallica made an album that isn't the way he wanted it to be, it happens to be bad. This is getting me actually kind of mad

Never said metal was limited to Thrash, but when a thrash band releases an album without very much thrash, it's a bad sign. You didn't even click the link, did you?

Master Of Puppets is less technical, less aggressive, less fun to listen to, and has less soul then Rust In Peace. It's worse. The only thing it's better at is being mediocre. Ride The Lightning and Kill 'Em All are much better the MoP.

Also, you guys keep mentioning how influential MoP was, but I can't think of a single good band that was influenced by it. Name one.

Megadeth: Rust in Peace.

Wow, I can actually agree with tmac on something. Master of Puppets was damn good. Personally, I'm not really into metal. Most of the genre just doesn't go it for me. But Master of Puppets, as well as the Black album, were both damn good albums.

k, im sorry to say this, but carmelzappa kind of strengthened my point. he said hes not into metal. but he likes metallica. why is it that the same people that like rap and rock music like this album?? the album is too slow. i agree with richie here. after the first two thrash albums. megadeth never slowed down untill youthanasia because theyr label kind of screwed them over. and yes, i know bob rock helped metallica slow down and become boring, but they had 10 years to get rid of him.

MoP, too slow? Ride and Justice both being better? I am not advocating for either side here but it appears that the same formulas employed on the prequel and sequel to MoP still rang true ON MoP, so what is the debate over. If any album is the enemy here it is the Black Album or later. And Death Magnetic is the best they have released in decades (not to diminish the first four). Also, if you have listened to Justice, you'll notice that while the thrash elements are strong the bassline is burried (RIP Cliff...no pun intended) in the mix. I had my bass maxed out and I still couldn't hear it. So creatively it is good but I like the variety of MoP. Dave's vocals are whiny and an aquired taste and while I am stoked for this DLC, and am gaining respect for Megadeth everyday (through the albums ENDGAME, COUNTDOWN TO DESTRUCTION, AND RUST IN PEACE) Metallica will always have that special place in my heart as the band that opened the door to metal (for me anyway).

So what does this do to the supposed "Guitar Hero" plans Dave was talking about? Does he not know the difference, or is Endgame coming?

Vaultboy, your opinion is invalid. There is no Megadeth album called Countdown to Destruction.

You guys still haven't named one good band influenced by Master Of Puppets.

"but metallica cant match it."

I knew it wouldn't take long to go down that road. Fanboyism aside (I love both bands anyway), there hasn't been another metal album more critically successful and more influential than Master of Puppets...but Rust in Peace is also often cited in the top 5.

Both RiP and MoP are incredible albums in their own right...honestly which album is better probably depends on if you prefer Megadeth or Metallica. But both albums are each bands finest and greatest work.

None of the artists who covered the songs for GH will ever be able to touch the originals.

Now that Activision has Ozzy's support I demand master tracks for Iron Man and Paranoid.

I like both bands, but Metallica is more popular, if not popsy. Megadeth never sold out as much as Metallica did. They always stayed fanatically loyal to the pursuit of virtuosity.

I found a custom version of GH Aerosmith that had all Megadeth tracks on teh interwebz. Didn't try it because usually custom note charts lack all difficulty setting and have really bad timing issues.
