I am more partial to Holy Wars, especially since even after 2 decades the song is Very relevant (lyrically too) today.

This is the classic Megadeth lineup and their best album. Haven't been this excited about DLC in a while! Maybe in the future we will get Countdown to Extinction. Ashes in your Mouth would be awesome. Friedman is definitely a god, but Nick Menza on drums is going to be f'n INCREDIBLE. Can't wait.

This. Is. Weird.

People are having a civil discussion about music, even if they disagree with each other. But when it comes to video games, everyone is at each others' throats.

Griffin, you have probably the best writing out of all the other writing staff. You put together so much cliche things that i havent heard in awhile, and make them freakin' funny. And its always fresh. Write a book, and ill buy it.

I like a few Megadeth songs, so I might check out some of this album online and pick the songs I like. I've never really been a big thrash metal fan; I like a few songs and respect what they've done, but it isn't really my style of music. Excpet Slayer. For some reason, I've always really liked Slayer.

The Who Super Bowl S-mashup

Any info on exactly what this is? I am really hoping it is just a few of their songs put together and not one of those rap/rock mixes. Nothing against some of those, but I would just love a great The Who mix.

The Who mashup is a bit of Baba O'Riley, Pinball Wizard, the close of Tommy, Who are You and Won't Get Fooled Again. Depending on how well they play it, this is a must buy over anything by Megadeath

My question is, which version of Rust In Peace is this going to be? The original, or Mustaine's god-awful "remaster" where all of the levels got overloaded and a bunch of Ellefson's bass lines got replaced?

Oh no I forgot about that. Re recorded lead vocals for Take No Prisoners, and alternate takes for I believe Lucretia and Five Magics too. The masters were lost or something. It will definitely be the remaster. Maybe they fixed the levels when they were making the mixes for the game.

Also, you guys keep mentioning how influential MoP was, but I can't think of a single good band that was influenced by it. Name one.

MoP is not a thrash album, so if you want to compair RUST IN PEACE to a Metallica album it would have to be either KILL'EM ALL or Ride THE LIGHTNING. And as any TRUE metalhead would know, Mustain either wrote or co-wote most of the albums. Top 3 THRASH albums are

1 Rust in Peace

2 Kill'em All

3 Hell Awaits

Mustaine did not write any of those songs.

He HELPED write most of kill em all and 2 songs on ride the lightning. HELPED is the key word. Megadeth fanboys make it seem like Lars, James, and Cliff just sat on their ass and let Dave do everything.

Stop being bitter and distorting facts.

For anyone to say MoP is not a thrash album is absurd I think, I agree it was very influential when it came out and I think was the first thrash album to sell over 1 million copies. Sure Metallica sucks now but they didn't back when this came out. If you want to talk about really influential albums, I don't see how anyone can leave out Slayer's Reign in Blood, which still stands up today as one of the best metal records of all time. I would love to see this in RB but probably never will due to lyrics, although they released Megadeth's Good Mourning/Black Friday so who knows? Back to the topic, I will definitely get Rust in Peace but don't think it was a hugely influential album, although it is a great album and Megadeth's finest.

"LES METAL", perhaps?

Alright, here's the rundown

Big 4 thrash metal bands
Metallica
Slayer
Megadeth
Anthrax

Now out of the 4 popularity looks like the list above. Yes, Metallica changed their sound on Load and Re-Load but what band doesn't. Listen to every album by every band up their in order and you will hear the change. All of the above bands changed their sound as sometime or another to accommodate to what was happening around them. If a band doesn't change their sound with the times they will soon become obsolete, this is a fact of the music industry. Granted Metallica changed their sound a lot more than the others, it basically was an experiment. All 4 bands are great in what they do. Slayer hits you hard, Megadeth had Mustaine and the weird singing (to me IMHO), Anthrax blended with rap/hip-hop, and Metallica brought all 4 bands to the masses with their cross-over potential. Saying one band is better then another is absurd, as all did something to help the thrash genre. Also having seen 3 of the 4 (Anthrax being the only one I haven't seen) I would say they all still thrash like they used to. Albums are great, but see any of the above bands live and you'll change your mind on whether they are still thrash or not, and I got a clue for ya. they are.

It would be nice if Harmonix could use some of their clout (if they really do have any) to get some of the more popular albums of all time (I mean, come on, really, a 1x platinum album?). I know there are metal fans among the GH/RB elite, but this album only appeals to a very small subset of the overall user-base. If they want to pump up their number of people who buy DLC, they are going to have to look for bigger fish. Megadeth isn't going to cut it...

Such as?

Selling 25 million albums and recording and performing steadily for almost three decades (minus that minor hiatus for the whole nerve damage thing...) qualifies them as "big fish" in my opinion.
And I'm pretty sure the Metallica 3-packs is the highest selling DLC release on Rock Band thus far (Can't find a source for this, but I'm almost positive I remember reading about it in a decently reputable source), which seems to make us metal fans not so much a small sub-set at all.

What would you rather see (obviously ignoring bands that have publicly denounced releasing music onto music games)?

Just so you know... Dave Mustaine is the No.1 Metal guitarist. He has always been better and faster than Metallica. "If it wasnt for Mustaine there would be no Metallica, if it wasnt for Mustaine there would be no thrash metal at all"- Scott Ian, Anthrax

Rust in Peace is the best thrash metal album period. MoP is great amazing but cmon there is only one bad song in Rust In Peace and its like a minute long while i think Mop has a good amount of weaker songs. Mustaine is so much better than Kirk and James. His solos are technical but he doesnt rely much on a pedal like Kirk and his rhythm sections are unparalleled. Megadeth have also keep a steady stream of good music unlike Metallica. I love Metallica but Megadeth is number one in my book. Oh and I will buy every song except dawn patrol.
