The head of MGS Europe assuredly has a few more things on his plate than the third game in a franchise he helped create, but in a recent feature on Peter Molyneux at Develop, the British creator calmly pronounced the game to be nearing its "final edit" stage of production. Whether he means "ready for submission to Microsoft" or "we haven't started polishing it yet" (or, heck, anywhere in between) remains unclear, though we'd certainly like to get our hands on the final product sooner rather than later.
Additionally, Molyneux triple dips on his love for Valve, proclaiming Half-Life 2 as his "favourite" game ever (you crazy Brits!) as well as the game he would most like to have worked on, and also notes the developer as the one he most admires (get a room, you two!). And hey, if you've been hankering to know his "favourite" album, it's Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon." (Yep, we were kind of disappointed too.)

Why so much Molyneux hate? The guy has faith in his studio's work - give him a break.

You obviously never heard anything before that and The Wall I bet.
Go pick up Umaguma or Atom Heart Mother. Both those Floyd albums are worlds better then dark side of the moon. But it's before they became "popular" =P so no one knows them since they're not on the radio.

+1 DSoTM is an amazing album.. on top of all the other ones as well...
And im pretty sure the acid he dropped back in the day while listening to pink floyd helped alot with his creative ability to create these amazing games.

basically i said that DSotM is a lot more of a symbol, even though it is an outstanding piece of musical genius. I mean, A Great Gig in the Sky? Money? Time? To quote Gob Bluth, from Arrested Development, "C'mon!"

Molyneux has some very interesting ideas. It is too bad that there aren't devices that scan his brain, take his ideas, and make the perfect game for him. He seems to never have enough resources, or time to make the game he wants. It is too bad, because he has some awesome ideas for games. (Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aP1PGNfyXeI)
He always seems to be this gaming philosopher. For example, the whole one button combat for Fable 2. It was alright in Fable 2, but it was done exceptionally well in Batman: Arkham Asylum. I like the fact that he pushes his sometimes crazy ideas out. He always seems to be looking to progress gaming as a entertainment medium forward even if he doesn't succeed in the end.

Fable 2 is not a co-op game. Co-op is possible, but probably the worst way you can possibly play the game.

i disagree wholeheartedly. If the games that close to being done, it's probably nothing but Natal gimmicks. How can fable II have taken 4 years to develop and Fable III's taken 1.5?

Is this going to just be Fable 2 with a new story and some slight changes to mechanics? I was hoping for something rebuilt from the ground up. Fable 2 never really grabbed me and I just ended up beating it "just to beat it" and found myself not really having fun. =P

I hope the combat gets revamped. The original games' combat system was too hack-and-slash and repetitive for me to actually like. It's the only thing that's holding me back from liking the Fable games though.

A lot of RPGS coming out in 2010 that I have vested interest in. This being one of them.
First was ME2, FF13 in March. Apparently Feelplus+ is rumored to be working on a 360 RPG as well (hoping Lost Odyssey 2), and Fable 2 is in fall.
If you add in PS3 RPGs, this year is role-playing game central.

Every year seems to be the year of the RPG. Last year we had Dragon Age Origins, Borderlands, Aion, Champions Online, Free Realms, Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story. When we get to 2011 people will call that the "Year of the RPG".

Yeah, except that list doesn't come anywhere close to this year's list Paul.
For starters, Borderlands isn't really an RPG. Beyond that, Dragon Age was the only one that most people cared about, and even that probably ranks behind several of this year's games.
If the O'10 RPGs live up to the hype (ME2 was a good start in that regard), it won't even be a comparison between that and 09.

I haven't heard much hype about the new game Fable this go around. I believe they are playing it low key because they don't want to F themselves over by promising too much like they always do.

Fable 2 was a good game if you went into it ready to do lots of side quests and play around with the social stuff. I personally enjoyed it very much, but I'm the type who likes to do all the peripheral stuff in a game, and put off the main quest a bit as I do it.

Didn't Fable 2 win GOTY from Joystiq?
It was a much better, and funner game than Fable 1. It sure wasn't a "hardcore" RPG grind-fest type of game, but it was really nice to play. I would say it was an awesome game and one of the best games of 2008.

There will never be a time where Dark side of the moon will not be a completely valid and acceptable answer to the greatest album of all time question. You have a right to be personally disappointing with his answer but don't assume that others will join you in having bad taste in music.

Did no one else think that Fable 2 was lame?
Stroll into town dressed like a peacock and all the ladies flock to you. Flex your muscles and they gasp in awe. Wherever you go, people follow or swoon. And if you want a real laugh, suddenly change clothes and people shriek in terror.
Once you're done with that, you have a combat system that's little more than mindless button pushing, and a story that, well, I actually don't remember much about that yawn-fest of a story.
Give me Fallout or Mass Effect. Bethesda and Bioware have games with many of the same ideas Molyneux was bragging about, but their games are more than set of features to little the back game cases. They have engaging, vivid worlds with characters and plots that can stand strong among some of the best books and films.
I wasn't at all surprised to read that Molyneux is looking for a new feature set with Natal. But I won't make the mistake of giving him $60 of mine again.

In the same vein, I hope Fable 3 is not the same broken pile of broke that Fable 2 was. Don't get me wrong, I LOVED playing the game, but it was so glitch-tastic that it was almost like it didn't want me to play it.

I wouldn't think so. I think you could probably consider it just more of your typical Molyneaux fare, in that he's likely exaggerating a bit. Neither he or Lionhead seem to be the types that'd skimp or rush something out. What he said is pretty nebulous anyway, so who knows what it means.
Now on XBL? How recent is that? MarkezJM is mine.

Oh fine, but I say you deserve an award for that post. It was beyond epic.

@Mr. ESC: I won't go into the boring details of my own game-breaking glitch but there are TONS of major glitches in Fable 2, a lot of which are game-breaking. There's a whole Gamefaqs thread devoted to it, actually.

How was Fable 2 broken? The game had a few issues, but nothing too serious (like most games being released these days).

As a lover and owner of both Fable I and II, I have to say I am a bit sceptical. From everything I have read this is a total change in the Fable series. Less "go adventuring" and more "send people adventuring", managing of a kingdom and its various economics/nuances, a short dev cycle and some sort of Natal support.
I mean, if anyone can pull this stuff off and make it good, its Peter, but I have my doubts, especially if its in its "final edit stage (???) with concept art being the only real thing released so far.
That being said I want to know what the hell the chick is doing in that tower, so I will probably buy it close to or at launch if it gets even decent reviews.

Dr. Tea Bag your posts are turning white as the snow falling outside.
I'm a big fan of peter. From the days of Populous to Dungeon Keeper. He gets quite a bit of resentment on how much he runs his mouth and in the past given false hopes of his games but they still came out with a charm to them. Sure he falls on his face sometimes but he gets up and brushes his self off and goes on to the next game putting improvements in and tries to correct his mistakes. Being a big fan of the fable franchise I for one can't wait to play Fable 3 and rule albion.

I've really enjoyed Molyneux's games over the years (much of Bullfrog's catalog and Black & White, for instance). I'd love to be right there with other gamers playing his new creations as they come out, but it seems PC gamers are being neglected lately. Sorry, Mr. M. I love you, man, but I'm not buying a console for you.
