I want the name to this song.
Even though it was probably just made for the game.

I was so pumped for this game, but the little bit that I was able to play of the demo was just ok. I canceled my pre-order and will wait for the reviews to come and see if I apply my $10 gc from purchasing Bioshock 2 to this.

I hear ya'. I was really pumped about AvP. Until I played the demo. I could have delt with the bland graphics, but the poor level design and clunky controls just ruined it for me. It's 2010, I should be able to look down the rifle sight (if there is one?).

The graphics are not really horrible, actually I find them quite acceptable but the controls need to be tweaked especially the 360's. I dl both but found them a tad less responsive on the 360 than on the PS3, which could be be cause of the harder to push thumbsticks. I might still get this game but after the reviews comeout and if they are around the 85% mark if basing it on a scale, but as always I value Joystiq's critique the most and if they like it I'll get it.

Just saying, if aliens were swarming you the last thing you want to do is "aim". Also idk about console but PC controls are fine, graphics too (demo was using dx9 and full game will be dx11 so there will be additional improvement). That said I'm also going to be keeping an eye on reviews.

if aliens are swarming me, i would rather aim than inaccurately spray fire. running out of ammo is the last thing you need in that situation...

Sly have you played the demo? you have mag's that have like 100 bullets each and spare ammo is everywhere. Also if you "aimed" you would not be able to keep up with how fast aliens move in that game, let alone multiple ones. you would have a tail through your back instantly.

I did find that the wall transition for the aliens are unresponsive at times but I find it much easier and faster to jump to the location im trying to get to and the Alien automatically grabs on. You can also change the transition to auto in the option menu.

The alien transition button is not really for grabbing onto walls in front of you, but for jumping from one side of a wall to another. It is best to use the jump button when trying to go from the floor to a wall, or wall to ceiling. If you are on the ceiling and you push jump, you will not dismount to the floor, but actually lunge forward and still be on the ceiling. Hitting the transition button will let you drop to the floor (or if you are on a wall, to the wall opposite)

I played the demo, and the game has potential. But the demo did not sell me on it, and playing as the Alien is very disorienting, but the up close kills are pretty cool tho.

the alien takes a litle getting used to, i couldnt use it at first, but once you get used to it its probably the best one to use. the only hard part is how low it runs and how annying it is on the walls, but if you tap RT you will fall straight down, or iff you hold it you run up them. i find human is the hardest to use because you cant see a damn thing

It would have helped if the game was in 3rd person. The execution moves are just jarring in first person. WTF is up with the predator's 'disc'?!

The biggest complaints i have noticed are from people not playing the classes toward their strengths. You have to really know your class. Alien especially since you will get wrecked in a head on one-on-one fight. Alien best excels at hit-and-run not Zerg rush (at least in free-for all). Humans are pretty much invincible head on unless you get a lucky stun and grab so I always try to flank them from behind or from the ceiling since their radar only detects whats on ground level. Pred's need to use their gadgets. If you only try to use your blades you will be dead last. Seriously, once you learn how to play each class the game is so much more fun.

@Thor

Not to rain acidic blood on your parade, but the motion detector catches aliens moving on the ceilings too.

I just assumed it didn't because marines never...NEVER...shoot me when going at them head on from the ceiling. So you didn't rain on my parade, most of what i said is true and even the whole motion thing, so what. All that proves is that marines dont check the ceiling.

So is everyone here not fond of the moderately paced multiplayer demo?

Every multiplayer doesn't need to be super fast and knee jerk reflex requiring gameplay.

I 'love' the bit I've played through the demo and 'highly' anticipate the game's arrival. I just hope getting to play the Alien campaign will make me SUCK LESS at playing it in multiplayer...

@ electronic man - the level design is awful? its 1 level. the graphics are amazing, the reason you 'cant see shit' is because that adds the suspence to the game, have you ever played a horror game before? and did you turn on the marines flashlight? the matchmaking isnt the final product. none of it is. if the game designers wanted to, they could change everything. its called a demo for a reason. i didnt expect it to be all that amazing, and it surprised me.

@ mr. esc - noo, you cant just hide behind crates when your the predator, the aliens can see your player through walls and the marines have some sort of recon. so it doesnt work that way.

by the way, i dont see the problem with the controls, the only thing i dont like is that you cant turn and sprint, but im not that heartbroken.

People used to the generic and fast paced action of games like Modern Warfare will have a bit of time adjusting to Aliens VS Predator. There is much more focus on sneaking and ambush attacks, as well as melee, blocking and counter attacking. I think the graphics are very good, the lighting is excellent for the mood and for hiding. The level in the demo is great once you learn ambush tactics with the Alien and Predator.

And yes, the matchmaking is a bit tedious in the DEMO, but I am pretty confident that will not be an issue in the finished game. I am looking for a new, original MP experience as I am growing a bit tired of the same military shooters that are all the rage at the moment. This game is looking to be amazing so far and I cant wait for it to come out.

Five minutes? Look a hell of a lot longer than that. Might not help that I'm on PSN which never runs smoothly for me. vOv But yeah that matchmaking is really awful, I'm surprised they let that fly.

This looks like a fun part. You got the music blazing, the lights going nuts, and all the while you have to watch out for the Aliens. Sweet.

Kind of wish the demo was about 5 or 10 mins of each playable character. The free-for-all is a nice way to get used to the controls for each species but would've preferred actual game play. All that aside, I'm looking forward to this game. Just wish it weren't coming out so soon after BioShock 2.

PS. Electronic Old Man needs to get that bug out of his ass

@ dark wayne - it is real gameplay, but the fact that you need other people to play it isnt that great. i like the demo, but there is issues with the matchmaking big time. also, once your done a match you leave the lobby: i dont like.

I have been playing lots of the MP demo on both the PS3 and 360. I love it so far. The alien is my favorite character to play. Once you figure out the up close melee attacks, blocking and counter attack and when to grab, the game becomes amazingly fun. I am really looking forward to the Infestation mode. Sounds a lot like the Infection mode from Area 51 which was fun as hell.

Ive played both ps3 and pc. ps3 is so hard as an alien. controls are clunky and stuff, other races are ok. on pc though it really does show with the alien that a mouse is the way to go. im so glad i preordered it for pc. i can play cod6 on console but this game requires the twitch reflexes only a mouse gives. get for pc if u can.

btw, gfx are awesome. i love the emotion of sum1 dying on the end of my mouth/tounge.

Rebellion really shouldn't have released this demo in this state. I think the game will be a huge amount better than many demo players think it is, so this demo is just shooting themselves in the foot.

No tutorial. Deathmatch (the worst mode for learning the nuance of each class, and the least fun mode for this game), no explanation of counters for special moves, no dedicated servers, etc... and apparently based on a 10 month old build too.

The demo should SELL your game, so it should show it's strong points... not hide them and focus people's attentions on it's weak points.

I hope that was "Easy Mode", those Aliens were pussies compared to their on-screen counterparts. Can you imagine what would happen to that marine in the movie? And what's with the dance club situation? I suppose it has some context in the setting/story, but without that context it's just kinda "WTF?".

The Graphics are Great, the animation of watching other people move around the enviroment (not the kill animations), just the plain walking around SUCK, and makes it feel cheap. I can't get into. YES it was fun to play, took me back in the day of play avp on pc; ALSO thought the Interface was seriously LACKING. the match finding sucked. the Frame Rate dropped just enough to get myself killed more than once (mostly because i suck at the game and thats a lame excuse); what else, the sound was average, nothing to amazing, I found the alien really hard to play as. The predator was really fun playing but didnt get to feel like a predator at any time as it was hard as hell to kill people. AND YES, Why can't We look down the sites of the gun, because pred and alien cant', i don't know. I was really and I mean REALLY wanting this game, but if they release it as is with no more than a little improvment from what is here, I don't think its worth 60$ to rehash old pc AVP game feelings. THEY NEED:
1. Better Interface
2. Faster FPS
3. Better Animations for looking at your enemies and walking (feels to much like gliding)
4. Better online match making.
5. Please change the INTERFACE of the main menu's, the HUDS are well done.
6. Better MAPS, but this is only based on playing one map, but something tells me its going to be looking and feeling alot like what we played for the others. Put us in better locations, (Office, outside forest, etc...)

I can't comment on anything you said except environments...and there will be a good variety in the final game (including jungles, alien hives, etc.) Hopefully the other issues you mentioned have been addressed, as well.
