Steam: Pre-order Metro 2033, get Red Faction Guerrilla free
With a Steam pre-purchase of THQ's upcoming Metro 2033 (which releases March 16) for $50, deal-seekers will also nab Red Faction Guerrilla for free. The Red Planet Revolution sim is regularly priced at $20 -- but, you know, the right Steam sale comes along and that price drops like a Martian communications tower.
Our recent hands-on with Metro 2033 gave us a "good" vibe, but we definitely need more time with the game to see if the feeling lasts. Red Faction Guerrilla, however, made it onto five Joystiq editors' "Best of the Rest" of 2009 lists, and it's totally worth picking up -- even if you have to pay for it.

Now this is a deal that would get me to buy it on PC if I had a good computer, as Red Faction Guerilla was fantastic. Hell I might do it anyway and just save it for when I do get a good computer. Do these pre-purchase deals on Steam last until the game comes out?
tmacairjordan87 @ Feb 5th 2010 1:16PM
This is how that shit yesterday started, with someone attacking me with no reason. I'm not going to retaliate this time, just going to let Joystiq handle it.
Bradwart @ Feb 5th 2010 1:18PM
I think they do, but don't quote me on that. They are still doing it for BioShock 2, so it would seem that way.
Solace XBL BitterSolace @ Feb 5th 2010 1:40PM
yes, once you pre-purchase a game it is tied to your account even if you don't download it at that moment. I know alot of people bought games during the Steam Winter sale without owning a decent PC.
CaramelZappa @ Feb 5th 2010 1:54PM
Seeing as though its pre-order incentive you probably won't get Red Faction for free once the game comes out. If your planning on getting a gaming PC in the future it would be a wise choice to pick it up now so you'll have it when you have a PC good enough for it.
tmacairjordan87 @ Feb 5th 2010 1:57PM
What I meant was, I don't have the money to pre-purchase it now but the game doesn't come out until like March 13th so I was wondering will the pre order bonus still be available if I were to pre-purchase it on, say, March 2nd?
Captain Planet [Planeteer | Power of Captain Planet] @ Feb 5th 2010 1:57PM
Okay, I'm going to say this ONCE. I don't work for Joystiq nor am I trying to kiss some ass, but seriously, all the personal attacking needs to stop. Sure, you can have your little witty, playful comments but when you're attacking someone out of shear hate and ignorance, you make this place less enjoyable. You little shits turn decent posts into these useless arguments ABOUT NOTHING.
Yes, this is the Internet. We know you little rat shit trolls LOVE anonymity but that does NOT give you an excuse to act like a jackass. All the regulars who post here is the reason I come here because I respect people's opinions, thoughts, comments, ideas, etc. We can have discussions on those things but when you start discounting people opinions because of whatever bias you have, you are going to get buried here.
Shut the hell up you bloody idiot trolls and save your stupid Internet drama for myspace.
Patrick @ Feb 5th 2010 2:08PM
@whymog...
Joystiq is geared toward console gaming, NOT PC gaming. That fact is evident when you look at the top of ANY page hosted here...under the JOYSTIQ logo at the top of each page, you see links for [Xbox] [Playstation] [Nintendo] articles. There isn't a link for [PC Gaming] articles. You can call it a bias against PC gaming and I wouldn't say you're wrong. But to be more specific, I would say that Joystiq's editors simply don't view us PC gamers as their target audience.

What the man in tights said.
CaramelZappa @ Feb 5th 2010 2:43PM
Oh, well in that case yes, you should still get it if you pre-purchase on March 2nd. Usually these are available right up until the game is released.
And right on Captain Planet.

Captain Planet
He's our Hero
Gonna take that trollin' down to zero!
tmacairjordan87 @ Feb 5th 2010 3:21PM
Thank you for clearing that up for me Caramel.
nerdydesi (I do not play with toys) @ Feb 5th 2010 5:18PM
Tmac actually getting a bit interested in PC gaming? The world is ending!!!
tmacairjordan87 @ Feb 5th 2010 5:31PM
The only reason I'm even considering it is because Metro really has me interested, and I loved Red Faction last year.
If they both don't support a 360 controller then I'm actually leaning towards not doing it even with the great deal.
nerdydesi (I do not play with toys) @ Feb 5th 2010 5:34PM
Then maybe you shouldn't get a PC since the only draw for you is the lower prices of PC games. Over a long time, the PC may end up saving you money but in the short run, maybe you should just stick to your 360.
Einhanderkiller @ Feb 5th 2010 6:33PM
Yes, pre-order incentives last until the game releases.
And you can add Xbox 360 controller support to any PC game using programs like Pinnacle Game Profiler.
CaramelZappa @ Feb 5th 2010 6:38PM
Part of the "games for windows" certification is 360 controller support. I can't think of a single game (aside from indie titles) in recent history that don't support the 360 controller so there's no reason to think Metro won't. And as Einhander said, there are programs that will let you use the controller in any game even if it isn't natively supported.

I love it when I read post comments too late, and there are all these fragmented feisty replies to a long-since-deleted comment. Makes me feel like everyone else is in on some sort of secret comment club and I have no idea what's going on. It's a special feeling.
I guess what I'm saying is, it'd be nice if some of the associated replies also magically disappeared instead of lingering like some sort of vestigial sixth toe.
Faulty Hardware - Biofiend (Addicted to Bioware games) @ Feb 5th 2010 1:01PM
I was confused at first. Then I realized they were both being published by THQ.
I'm liking the new THQ.
CheesePirateAssassin @ Feb 5th 2010 1:01PM
I cn't wait for Metro 2033. I love extremely harsh and difficult survival games. I'm glad this is shaping up to be one of those and not some casual affair.
I'd take advantage of this deal, but I already have RFG.
Brian (PC gamer extraordinaire) @ Feb 5th 2010 1:01PM
i would.
but after pre-ordering mass effect 2, bioshock 2 and Battlefield last month, i'm not buying anymore games for a few months
Toop @ Feb 5th 2010 1:03PM
Every time I turn on Steam I'm given one more reason to think that if anything can save PC gaming, Steam is it.
liquidsoap89 @ Feb 5th 2010 1:55PM
Yea between Steam and WoW PC gaming is still hanging in there... One of those 2 fall and everyone will just give up. I can't even count the amount of times I've given praise to steam!
Gotta give it to valve for developing the one thing that will eventually cause me to break and start buying my games online.
Levi @ Feb 5th 2010 1:03PM
Red Faction Guerilla was awesome! Get it dudes!
Storm Eagle [Planeteer | Power of Phoenix Wrights Colloquial Catch Phrase - OBJECTION! and Captain Planets Second in Command] @ Feb 5th 2010 1:05PM
Strongly considering it....
Levi @ Feb 5th 2010 1:09PM
Strongerly consider it! It's a super fun game. Dunno about Metro yet.
uncle jesse [Planeteer | Power of the Unequivocal Truth, Cool Hair and being Captain Planets Best Friend] @ Feb 5th 2010 1:37PM
Agreed. I bought it on a whim and it surprised the hell out of me. Good times! This is a great deal they're offering. I'm liking this, THQ. Keep it up.
Sonos @ Feb 5th 2010 1:10PM
Man that is awesome. Does Red Faction have any sort of mod community? I loved that game on the 360 mods would make the game even better I imagine.
The Metro game looks pretty swank too I'm a sucker for anything revolution or commie based even if its silly a la Command and Conquer.
whymog @ Feb 5th 2010 1:11PM
Oh no! The secret's out: Joystiq really, really hates PC games! They must think they're really dumb and totally not good.
C'mon, wcarnation, let's Woodward/Bernstein this shit and blow the lid clean off Joystiq's blatant, incontrovertible, totally-has-to-be-real PC hating bias!
acefondu @ Feb 5th 2010 1:23PM
I got Red Faction for $10 on the last Steam Deal. I'll probably like Metro though as I love the Stalker games and this is essentially an evolution of that.
MrKlorox @ Feb 5th 2010 3:51PM
Not really because STALKER is open world and this game is quite linear.
acefondu @ Feb 5th 2010 3:52PM
Oh it is? Well I don't dislike linear games, but that's a shame still.
Nap @ Feb 5th 2010 1:28PM
I bought Red Faction Guerrilla for $5 this week from Direct2drive
http://www.direct2drive.com/8064/product/Buy-Red-Faction:-Guerrilla-Download
Best $5 I ever spent.. gotta love Cheap Ass Gamer ;P
Solace XBL BitterSolace @ Feb 5th 2010 1:41PM
too bad D2D sucks, I bought ME for $5 there and it never could install on my Win7 PC
Nap @ Feb 5th 2010 1:48PM
Maybe that has nothing to do with the website.. maybe it has to do with your computer?
I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate and I have never had a problem installing files
spencer8ab @ Feb 6th 2010 2:26AM
I bought Mirrors Edge from Direct 2 Drive when it was on sale, and I had no trouble using it on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. Maybe your download was corrupted.
Dale @ Feb 5th 2010 1:44PM
I mentioned this in response to a Metro 2033 article posted yesterday. Hmph!
Levi @ Feb 5th 2010 2:24PM
It surprised me too. I borrowed Prototype and Red Faction Guerilla from a friend at the same time, mostly excited for Prototype. I played it, beat it, and while flawed, really liked it. I let RF:G sit for a while, barely interested in getting the energy up to start it. Once I finally did, I pretty much played it for 2 or 3 weeks straight until I beat it. Surprised the hell out of me too.
Levi @ Feb 5th 2010 2:32PM
Nnnnnnnnooooooooooooooooo!!!!!! Joystiq n00b!!!!!!!!
arkweld @ Feb 5th 2010 2:44PM
"Red Faction Guerrilla, however, made it onto five Joystiq editors' "Best of the Rest" of 2009 lists"
well based on that comment alone you can tell they don't play PC games that often, because in it's current state RF:G shouldn't be in the top 50 of any PC gamers list.
wcarnation @ Feb 5th 2010 3:12PM
Didn't imply "hates", just simply noting there like absolutely no PC angle to things on here. Something that's kinda missing.
Covarr @ Feb 5th 2010 3:34PM
Forget Metro 2033. I want to see a post-apocalyptic urban street racing game called Geo Metro 2033. All the cars are Geo Metros (in the standard ugly red and green colors, no custom shades available), but you can overpower them with spoilers and flame decals.
MrKlorox @ Feb 5th 2010 3:49PM
I need to see more before pre-ordering the game. STALKER is my favorite singleplayer FPS series ever and I'm not sure the non-open aspect of Metro 2033 will keep me interested.
GioSpy @ Feb 5th 2010 6:01PM
That's a pretty cool deal but I'm still unconvinced that Metro 2033 will be a good game or not.
ericojeda @ Feb 5th 2010 6:24PM
I wish STEAM charged you the day the game released and not the day you pre-order.
mark076h @ Feb 5th 2010 7:08PM
The PC version is going to feature some nice PhysX effects and is going to be a PhysX showcase when released.
http://www.gamephys.com/2009/11/04/post-aplocalyptic-shooter-metro-2033-to-feature-advanced-physx-effects/
here is a Q&A with one of the developers about the PhysX being implemented: http://www.gamephys.com/2010/01/12/metro-2033-technical-qa-covers-the-physx-being-implemented-in-the-game/
