Steam: Pre-order Metro 2033, get Red Faction Guerrilla free

With a Steam pre-purchase of THQ's upcoming Metro 2033 (which releases March 16) for $50, deal-seekers will also nab Red Faction Guerrilla for free. The Red Planet Revolution sim is regularly priced at $20 -- but, you know, the right Steam sale comes along and that price drops like a Martian communications tower.

Our recent hands-on with Metro 2033 gave us a "good" vibe, but we definitely need more time with the game to see if the feeling lasts. Red Faction Guerrilla, however, made it onto five Joystiq editors' "Best of the Rest" of 2009 lists, and it's totally worth picking up -- even if you have to pay for it.

Now this is a deal that would get me to buy it on PC if I had a good computer, as Red Faction Guerilla was fantastic. Hell I might do it anyway and just save it for when I do get a good computer. Do these pre-purchase deals on Steam last until the game comes out?

I think they do, but don't quote me on that. They are still doing it for BioShock 2, so it would seem that way.

yes, once you pre-purchase a game it is tied to your account even if you don't download it at that moment. I know alot of people bought games during the Steam Winter sale without owning a decent PC.

Seeing as though its pre-order incentive you probably won't get Red Faction for free once the game comes out. If your planning on getting a gaming PC in the future it would be a wise choice to pick it up now so you'll have it when you have a PC good enough for it.

What I meant was, I don't have the money to pre-purchase it now but the game doesn't come out until like March 13th so I was wondering will the pre order bonus still be available if I were to pre-purchase it on, say, March 2nd?

Joystiq is geared toward console gaming, NOT PC gaming. That fact is evident when you look at the top of ANY page hosted here...under the JOYSTIQ logo at the top of each page, you see links for [Xbox] [Playstation] [Nintendo] articles. There isn't a link for [PC Gaming] articles. You can call it a bias against PC gaming and I wouldn't say you're wrong. But to be more specific, I would say that Joystiq's editors simply don't view us PC gamers as their target audience.

Oh, well in that case yes, you should still get it if you pre-purchase on March 2nd. Usually these are available right up until the game is released.

Then maybe you shouldn't get a PC since the only draw for you is the lower prices of PC games. Over a long time, the PC may end up saving you money but in the short run, maybe you should just stick to your 360.

And you can add Xbox 360 controller support to any PC game using programs like Pinnacle Game Profiler.

Part of the "games for windows" certification is 360 controller support. I can't think of a single game (aside from indie titles) in recent history that don't support the 360 controller so there's no reason to think Metro won't. And as Einhander said, there are programs that will let you use the controller in any game even if it isn't natively supported.

I love it when I read post comments too late, and there are all these fragmented feisty replies to a long-since-deleted comment. Makes me feel like everyone else is in on some sort of secret comment club and I have no idea what's going on. It's a special feeling.

I guess what I'm saying is, it'd be nice if some of the associated replies also magically disappeared instead of lingering like some sort of vestigial sixth toe.

I cn't wait for Metro 2033. I love extremely harsh and difficult survival games. I'm glad this is shaping up to be one of those and not some casual affair.

I got Red Faction for $10 on the last Steam Deal. I'll probably like Metro though as I love the Stalker games and this is essentially an evolution of that.

Not really because STALKER is open world and this game is quite linear.

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate and I have never had a problem installing files

I bought Mirrors Edge from Direct 2 Drive when it was on sale, and I had no trouble using it on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. Maybe your download was corrupted.

It surprised me too. I borrowed Prototype and Red Faction Guerilla from a friend at the same time, mostly excited for Prototype. I played it, beat it, and while flawed, really liked it. I let RF:G sit for a while, barely interested in getting the energy up to start it. Once I finally did, I pretty much played it for 2 or 3 weeks straight until I beat it. Surprised the hell out of me too.

well based on that comment alone you can tell they don't play PC games that often, because in it's current state RF:G shouldn't be in the top 50 of any PC gamers list.

Didn't imply "hates", just simply noting there like absolutely no PC angle to things on here. Something that's kinda missing.

Forget Metro 2033. I want to see a post-apocalyptic urban street racing game called Geo Metro 2033. All the cars are Geo Metros (in the standard ugly red and green colors, no custom shades available), but you can overpower them with spoilers and flame decals.

I need to see more before pre-ordering the game. STALKER is my favorite singleplayer FPS series ever and I'm not sure the non-open aspect of Metro 2033 will keep me interested.

That's a pretty cool deal but I'm still unconvinced that Metro 2033 will be a good game or not.

I wish STEAM charged you the day the game released and not the day you pre-order.

The PC version is going to feature some nice PhysX effects and is going to be a PhysX showcase when released.
