The price gouge is funny, along with the fact as I was in the process of posting those above me posted theirs.

Also, was that comment really necessary?

You gotta love Sony for their non-proprietary hard drives, being able to charge the PS3 controller with just a USB cable, not a $20 accessory, same with able to use it on a PC and not get another $20 accessory for that.

My girlfriend got me the 120gb HDD for my Birthday like two years ago. I love her! I still have 85gb left. I'm curious though. Can you buy the 250gb HDD from Japan and it'll work on your American Xbox 360?

I can't answer that exactly, but I took the 60GB HDD from the Xbox 360 that I bought in Thailand, attached it to my U.S. 360, and it's been working fine ever since. So my guess would be yes, that would work for you.

A simple google search will show you how to upgrade your drive and put in it a 250g HD without buying Microsoft's overpriced HDD

It's sad this will never happen though. It really needs to. Their Zune Department still hasn't patched/answered why Zunes quit workin' on Vista out of no where.Along with their expensive chargers for the Zune too.

I'm glad that my 360 came with a 60GB hard drive that I've only used about 60% of. I won't be upgrading any time soon, or ever.

Oh well their high priced hardware sales just keeps me from buying more software. I own two games on demand but won't get anymore becauseI don't feel like redownloading. Have a 60 gig that is filled with only games and 1 game install at a time because I no longer have room for 2. I just pick my purchases more wisely now or purchase the game on PS3 if its multiplatform.

An item is worth what people are willing to pay for it. The PS3 was technically a steal at $500-600, and no one bought it, even though looking at the hardware it packed at the time it was a monster value (as evidenced by Sony's quite large losses on it)

As MS hasnt lowered its prices on these drives, obviously people are buying them.

Call it price gouging (hell, thats what it is), and moan about it all you want. In the end...its just good business.

I'm surprised publishers aren't telling MS to take a more sane approach to storage space. As some of these posts indicate, expensive storage reduces users' willingness to buy all the downloaded games and content they would otherwise consider, ultimately hurting the publishers' bottom lines so MS can make more coin on that proprietary hard drive. Really, MS, just sell a hard drive enclosure that plugs into the 360 that lets the user put whatever size drive they want in their 360 and you'll be loved.

I would easily spend at least $60 or more on downloadable titles on the XBLM if I had the hard drive space for it. But I'm not about to pay twice what a hard drive should cost for the privilege.

With Live, you can always redownload games you've purchased, so if your drive is full you can in effect just swap out to what you are currently playing.

But in general I agree. I suspect the 250GB is going to be the trojan horse for a lot more full game downloads closer to release date on Live.

Microsoft doesn't care, really. You pay a yearly/monthly free to be able to make games for the XBL. I found it stupid, and even though I get a free year of making games for XBL (due to my school) I highly doubt I will.

Yea, thats an important feature to have, but it's not something to rely on. Especially with games on demand, where if I bought say, Gears of War and Lost Planet, to switch between them I would have to delete one, wait a few hours for the other to download (while not playing any online games) and then play that. The whole point of having downloadable games is for ease of access and convenience, so being able to redownload the game doesn't cut it. We still need more storage space.

Oh wow, what a "deal" This is getting ridiculous. My 20gb is full and I'm not paying more than half the price of my console for such a small hard drive. At this rate I think I'll start getting some of my multiplats on the PS3, if not all of them.

I've been so tempted to get one of those ebay drives that are basically 20 GB drive chassis with larger drives swapped in to put into my Arcade that I bought to basically be a Windows Media Center extender.

But they I realize I just bought it to be an extender, and that if I want to game on it I'll just move my Elite's HD.

I have seen "While Supplies Last" on plenty of items that have not become discontinued. Once the current stock of discounted harddrives is out, then the next, non-discounted batch comes back

Didn't Microsoft say that there will be no standalone 250GB drive back in September when it was showcased for the special edition MW2 Xbox 360? Microsoft is just confusing...

Yes, they did. Joystiq covered it.

http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/16/no-plans-for-250gb-xbox-drive-outside-modern-warfare-2-bundle-m/

I doubt anyone finds it odd MS was full of shit when they said this. I think we all expected MS was just trying to play up how special the 250GB bundle was.

After reading this article, I called my local Best Buy to see if they were going to reduce the price. Turns out, they reduced it a heck of a lot more than just $20. I got a new Xbox 360 120GB HDD for only $90.

Still overpriced, but at least I can install more than one game on the HDD at a time now.

Still a rip off, especially considering I picked up the exact same drive for $90 at Toys R Us (in Canada) about 2 years ago during one of their accessory clearance sales.
