Our biggest gripe with Facebook "games" most times is the lack of actual gameplay involved in them. Things like Mafia Wars seem much more like stat management spreadsheets couched in a social networking medium rather than games with a social media component. That said, it seems that 3G Studios is bringing a full on 3D shooter to the website in Brave Arms, announced this week and set for a March launch.
As the screenshot above corroborates, Brave Arms puts players in the first-person perspective for a Team Fortress 2-eque cartoony death match. CEO James Kosta says in the press release announcing the game that, "Our new title, Brave Arms, will bring first-person shooter games to the masses." Snarkier, meaner bloggers might mention games like Doom, Quake, Halo, or Call of Duty at this point, but we wouldn't do that. Nope. No sir. We'd just say something like, "How has EA not jumped on Facebook with Battlefield Heroes, nonetheless id Software/Bethesda with Quake Live?" As you might imagine with this type of free-to-play fare, there will be some form of microtransactions, though nothing has been explicitly detailed just yet.

Snarkier, meaner commentors might point out that the ejection port is on the wrong side of that fictional gun.

Considering the guy in front of him is wearing a shooting target on his t-shirt, I don't think we're talking special ops here. I mean, they're special, but not that kind of special.

Well facebook games are not really made for core gamers so there just block them like I do.
Plus these types of games don't really appeal to the facebook crowd, stick to your consoles imo, you guys complain too much.

I'm glad for that fact too. It'll make the Halo 2 farewell one of the most quality experiences in gaming history.

This is exactly why Microsoft added the Facebook Connect feature to XBox Live.
So that XBox games essentially become Facebook games, it's sad though being that there's so much flexibility in that feature and none of the major game companies will use it wisely.

Browser games have gotten very advanced. Just look at Quake Live, the InstantAction games, or Interstellar Marines: Bullseye. Especially Bullseye.

No, they prove developers put more effort on browser games than Wii games.
Seriourly, this doesn't look better than Super Mario Galaxy.

It seems joystiq has a very narrow definition of "gameplay" that mostly involves shooting things.

It's a wonder there isn't an app to link one's Steam account to one's facebook account, to display and compare stats, achievements etc. Surely the goal of social networking should be direct integration with as many other networks and avenues of online presence as possible. I guess Microsoft are looking down that path with the XBL Facebook thing.
I have my doubts that developing games like this specifically for facebook will ever yield a quality game, but I can see the appeal (or rather, the dollar signs flashing in the eyes of execs) in reaching out to the zillions of Facebookers who may or may not be gamers.

A Facebook time-waster I might actually enjoy. But let's be realistic, this isn't going to be as popular as "farmville" because it won't be able to reach the same audience as Farmville. In fact, the audience this will reach are likely the same guys who already play enough FPS on their PS3's or 360's (or Wii's), and they'll likely find too much fault in this game to jusitfy continued play.
However, for guys like me who do a little facebooking at work, this might be just the thing to get me through those boring days!
