This might actually get me to buy a Wii, depending on how it turns out....

It's ok, the Wii probably couldn't handle team ninjas advanced boob bouncing physics algorithm.

It's a shame, too.

Just imagine a boob-bouncing mechanic with the Wii-Remote.

And add in some vitality sensor support...

Phew.

Aim left, aim left! A little lower! Go lower, go lower! You're aiming too low!

Shit, it's in her eye! Would you like to try again?

Grasshopper Manufacture seems to have pulled off boob physics just fine. But don't tell Team Ninja that - wouldn't want them getting any ideas.

I really hope this game turns out to be good. I never finished playing the original metroid prime and really wanted to get the metroid prime trilogy for wii but since nintendo quit making copies, i guess ill have to buy it for more than $50...

Nintendo stopped production, but new copies are still available in the retail market (for the original price). My local Target, for example, still has multiple copies on the shelf. Of course, stock varies depending on location.

You must play Metroid Prime, and do it now. 2 & 3 you can take or leave, but 1 must be experienced.

@ Khan

I'm surprised you say that about three. I agree that one is excellent, two is super mediocre - but three was one of the best games I've ever played. It is hands down the most polished and well put-together Wii game, in my opinion.

I felt a lack of continuity in 3. The worlds were, individually, quite excellent in the Metroid tradition, the expanse of Elysia, the hostility of the Pirate Homeworld, but having them totally separate removed some of the joy of adventuring, of the complex network of elevators

Also the bosses were rather formulaic, in the sense that you always knew where you were going to fight a boss. An excellent game i'll agree, but not an essential experience.

MP3 did away with that sense of isolation that helped to enhance the atmosphere and create that badass feeling you got every time you took something down. It was still a polished game, and they ended the trilogy's story on a really high note, but gameplay wise, I'm gonna have to say Metroid Prime 2 is the best in the series.

It's weird, though - even though I enjoy Metroid Prime 2 more from a gameplay standpoint, the first game in the Prime series'll probably be the one that stands out five or ten years from now in my mind.

MP2 fell victim to the sensational "Light World VS Dark World" syndrome. It worked for ALttP and the only reason it did was because in ALttP Hyrule was absolutely HUGE.

Aether should have been bigger, around the same size as Tallon IV, in both Light and Dark, not with the two combined.

I suppose so, but at the same time, many of the environments (especially Sanctuary Fortress) were absolutely amazing, the boss fights were some of the best in the series, and the game was actually difficult, something I can't really say about 1 or 3.

I agree with Vader...I love all three, but Prime 2 has some of the best baddies out there (who can never forget the face off at the end of Prime 2?!!?). And I, at least, think the best music came out of Prime 2, followed closely by Prime 3.

@Jerk Face: I'm glad I'm not the only one who has that opinon! I haven't gotten very far into 3, but the impression I have (having beaten the first two) is that the first game is one of the greatest of all time, the second game is a massive disappointment (uninspired level design/powerups, inferior soundtrack, uninteresting story/world, lame "light world/dark world" and "Dark [protagonist]" gimmicks that had already been done by Zelda and countless other games) and the third game, while different from the first, was a huge step back in the right direction.

Inferior soundtrack?

Were we playing the same game?

Prime 2 has some of the best tunes in the entire series, Prime or not.

I found all 3 Primes to be amazing, just some slightly better. 1 is a 9.9, 3 is a 9.8, and 2 is a 9.7 :P I understand problems with Prime 2 but I still loved it. Better challenge level than the first (ie, harder). Prime 3 was too easy, even on the highest difficulty.

@Vader:

Aside from the menu theme, the only tunes on the soundtrack that stood out to me were the ones that were direct reworkings of tunes from Super Metroid - specifically the title theme and Torvus Depths. I just beat the game a couple weeks ago, and already I've forgotten most of the music. By contrast, I haven't played the original Prime in years, and I still remember much of the music from that game.

And I'm gonna come right out and say it: I love atmosphere and unique environments in games, but I just did not find anything particularly special about the Sanctuary Fortress. Okay, it's got the whole cyber-theme, I get that. It didn't really stand out to me all that much, certainly not in the way that, say, Phendrana Drifts or the Frigate Orpheon did. Even Torvus Bog I found to be more atmospheric and varied.

I just did not like Prime 2. At all. The entire thing left a bad taste in my mouth.

My thoughts as I read this blog entry:

After reading: "the upcoming game will focus on Samus Aran's 'human side.'"

- "More zero-suit Samus?"

After reading: "She's a strong woman, but she also has a fragile side."

- "Samus is a tsundere?"

After reading: "Emotionality that you can view, after the break."

- ". . . Huh?"

Not trying to detract from Sakamoto's overall message, but I just had those initial reactions to the pieces of it.
Also, Xav's "excepted" was intended to be "expected."

Ah, that's what I though of! Tsundere!

Yeah, I like the fact that we're gonna be learning more about Samus, but I really hope they screw it all up by turning my favorite video game character into an unlikable person. The game having more story already kinda scares me.

not tsundere, clearly yandere

that aside, I don't think her showing some emotion throws her into the almost bipolar template of tsundere like that

Action game - as long as they remember it is about more than action areas. Metroid is more an adventure with action added.

Either way, I really must get round to playing the Metroid Prime Trilogy before this comes out (I bought Echoes but I was rubbish at it so never made it far - FPS games using a control stick never worked for me - Wii Remote fixed that).

I agree. They need to remember that it needs a massive overworld and little-to-no hand holding in terms of linearity.

I just hope she doesn't have that "Japanese animation China-Doll look" that Squeenix does for all of their characters. It works when everything is a fantasy thing, but Metroid is Dark Sci-Fi.

Yeah, I always kinda got the impression that Samus was not a very emotional person. Not emotionless, mind you, but seeing as she's slaughtered hundreds (thousands?) of Space Pirates without remorse and destroyed entire worlds with barely a moment's hesitation, she doesn't strike me as being a woman of great sentimentality.

It all depends on how they approach it. Ideally, it would be structured similarly to Metroid Fusion, where as you went along, you got bits and pieces of the back-story, as dictated by Samus herself, although this time they would be full-scale cinematics.

I really don't want the cinema to mix with the gameplay. It is really the brainchild of the franchise creator, though, so i'm not worried that it will lose what makes Metroid great (namely atmosphere), and Team Ninja is really an ideal group for making a game that incorporates the faster pace of the 2D games, and re-renders it in a 3D world.

Extremely nervous about Samus talking, though. Extremely.

I'm all for her talking - I can't wait for the silent protagonist to go the way of the dodo! It's what ruined Dragon Age and makes you not give a crap about Gordon Freeman. I think giving Samus a full personality can only help things.

People can say what they want, but that's one of the best things about the Halo series - The Master Chief talks. He is a guy. He has thoughts. He isn't some shell that does what you tell it to. It really adds to your attachment of the character, and I welcome a bit of that in the Metroid series.
