Molyneux: Fable 3 news at X10 will make you 'super pissed off'
Speaking to Gamereactor, Lionhead maestro Peter Molyneux revealed that there will be some big Fable 3 news at the X10 event this week. "There's some very, very big things happening in Fable," said Molyneux, "Bigger than you think, and it's going to really upset people." Molyneux added that he is "really scared" about telling people the news, saying, "They're going to get super pissed off, they really are." Still, he concluded that it's "the right thing to do," and confirmed that he will be demonstrating the mystery announcement at X10 in San Francisco. Joystiq's theory: The entire story of Fable 2 was a dream sequence. Whatever it is, we'll be delivering the news directly from X10, so Joystiq's staff and readers can all get pissed off together.
In the meantime, be sure to watch the whole interview, which also contains some really interesting talk about Project Natal.

This guy seriously rides the short bus of game PR... "You're going to be mad about the announcement", so stay tuned???
Wow, that is some screwed up ish right there...
Dr. Tea Bag.. (PhD in Bratwurst Detection); @ Feb 7th 2010 7:11PM
Any publicity is good publicity.
Unless you're Peter Molyneux.
drumwiz86 @ Feb 7th 2010 7:56PM
@Wiizer
Not really. People love being pissed off. Any good talk radio show host makes inflammatory statements so people will listen more, and it works.
At this point I'm wondering what about a video game would piss me off so bad, so I'll probably look for the news.

"People love being pissed off. Any good talk radio show host makes inflammatory statements so people will listen more, and it works."
@ drumwiz86
That's flawed logic when it comes to the video game industry. With so much information flying around about Natal and its effect on hardcore games, it's a complete mistake to try and stir up controversy without damaging credibility of the game.
Mr.ESC @ Feb 7th 2010 8:07PM
Nah.Fable 3 achievements can only be obtained in Fable's 3 Pup games
Musicman247 @ Feb 7th 2010 10:10PM
Fable III, playable ONLY with NATAL!
You heard it here first! :-(
Foetoid @ Feb 7th 2010 10:53PM
If Fable 3 is an MMO...I SWEAR TO GOD!!!!
Swagman @ Feb 7th 2010 11:19PM
This is too easy. The fact that I have read thee entire pages of comments and no one even spotted this, makes me wonder about the collective IQ of the gaming community.
This is a PR stunt, pure and simple. Molyneux has been on some time about games or game characters that evoke an emotional response.
In Fable 2, the emotional response was supposed to be LOVE. And the characters meant to illicit the love response was supposed to be the players' dog (and to a lesser extent, the players children.
Well judging by this announcement and judging by Molyneux's . . . Molyneuxness, its more than obvious in Fable 3, the emotion that the game is intended to illicit is anger. No doubt at X10, Molyneux will have new gameplay mechanic or character to present that when the player comes across the situation in-game, it is designed to anger the player (in a fun and interactive way, of course).
Just to illustrate just how easy it is to pull the strings of the gaming community at large, Molyneux makes a simple announcement that his next announcement will make you pissed, and like clockwork, we get oodles of pages of pissed off, cynical and jaded comments at Joystiq and likely half the other forums and blogs across the internet.
I naively did not think that people's strings were so easily pulled, but I just read through ~150, mostly pissed off comments about Fable 3, Molyneux and Lionhead, and have to wonder.
The other possibility, and this one is really Molyneux having a go at the gaming community. The other possibility, is that Molyneux knows that no matter what he announces next concerning anything, that it is bound to piss people off. So just for shits and giggles, he's decided to warn the internets in advance, that come this Friday at X10, everyone is going to be pissed off, because Peter Molyneux made an announcement. He could be announcing that he is retiring, he could be announcing that he is getting circumsized, he could be announcing that he only has three more days to live, and the internets would still find a reason to get pissed off by the news.
Knowing that he can piss off so many people so easily, is Molyneux's ultimate revenge against all the naysayers who love to hate the man and his works.
ShadowflareXIII @ Feb 8th 2010 1:26AM
"No longer exclusive to XBox 360!!!"
I would pay the guy to say that....even if it was a lie. LMAO!
drumwiz86 @ Feb 8th 2010 2:05AM
@Wiizer
When did games become politics?
BacteriaEP @ Feb 8th 2010 2:50AM
@Swagman
Or... you know... he could actually be announcing drastic changes to the paradigm that is Fable's traditional gameplay thereby creating lots of anger amongst the core fanbase who love the game and relish the idea changes.
But no... you're right. You don't know anymore than we do, but clearly you can see everything from on top of your high horse. We are all silly for believing that Fable 3 may just be made to entertain a different audience.
MaxPower @ Feb 8th 2010 9:35AM
Considering Molyneux's history the announcement will leave me mildly annoyed
super pissed * Molyneux hype factor

Know what this means? Oh man, I totally know what this means.
The next Fable is going to be...it's so going to be...
a POINT AND CLICK DATING SIMULATOR/ADVENTURE GAME.
You heard it here first.
Dr. Tea Bag.. (PhD in Bratwurst Detection); @ Feb 7th 2010 7:05PM
That sounds awesome!
Bradwart @ Feb 7th 2010 7:09PM
But I thought that was Fable II...
Hyams @ Feb 7th 2010 8:08PM
So ... kinda like a non-pedo version of Milo?
devilsei @ Feb 7th 2010 9:16PM
I'll tell you what it is.
It requires Natal so badly that its required to do even anything. You'll have to actually walk, and it goes in real time, with no instant warps, fighting is limited to how strong you look (fat nerds rejoice, skinny ones better bulk up), and you have to read/speak every little line in the game for your guy. Also, you'll need a 250g Microsoft certified hard drive just to install the game, forcing you to get a memory card if you want to play with a profile.
Oh, and the 250gig drive is the same cost as an xbox elite system before the price drop.
Dr. Tea Bag.. (PhD in Bratwurst Detection); @ Feb 7th 2010 7:05PM
It's probably going to be some stupid story thing like...
"You are the child of your Fable 2 character".
or
"Fable 2 was a dream sequence".
I could see that pissing me off.
GrossGreg @ Feb 7th 2010 9:28PM
Fable 2 was a dream sequence. I totally agree that this will be the announcement.
felkadelic @ Feb 7th 2010 7:05PM
*sigh* Molyneux's schtick is so annoying. Anything to get some hype...
Crusty Magic @ Feb 7th 2010 7:07PM
It gets old.
THE WICKER MAN (BWF) (GT: Dalek Prime) @ Feb 7th 2010 7:08PM
Agreed. It is going to have a more "modern" setting.
WMcPete @ Feb 7th 2010 7:10PM
agreed. I have had a bad taste in my mouth about anything Molyneux has a part of since Fable, based solely on his annoying commentaries and false claims. Why do so many people think he is so great? I just don't get it...
I bet this announcement is that Fable 3 is going to be Natal controlled only. If that is the case, I will pass.
BigFat @ Feb 7th 2010 7:29PM
how is trying to get hype for his game by saying it will disappoint fans?
Isnt that the opposite of hype?
Bradwart @ Feb 7th 2010 7:35PM
No, Bigfat, because now EVERYONE will be anticipating his announcement to see if it pisses them off.
It's a lose/lose for him either way. If it doesn't piss people off, then 'Molyneux is an idiot!'. If it does, same thing.
BigFat @ Feb 7th 2010 7:49PM
i think your wrong on this one brad.
if its not a disappointment, why exactly would they call him an idiot? that line of thinking makes no sense.
"No, Bigfat, because now EVERYONE will be anticipating his announcement to see if it pisses them off. "
if he told us its going to be a dissapointment and you still anticipated it, why would you be mad that it turned out a dissapointment, when he clearly told us in a advance about the situation.
only fanboys who already hold a grudge about fable franchise and its creator will see a negative in this..
atrimus @ Feb 7th 2010 8:04PM
i've come to the conclusion that fanboys are typically the first to use one of the words in this sentence. i hold a grudge because there were things about the first two games that didn't deliver, not because i'm a fanboy. ...and no, i don't think either Fable was bad, or even just average. they were pretty good games that were made less than excellent because of the main man involved.
the only reason i'm seeing a negative in this particular comment of his is because Molyneux is telling me to see it.
Ezio Auditore da Firenze @ Feb 7th 2010 8:10PM
"i've come to the conclusion that fanboys are typically the first to use one of the words in this sentence."
This is pretty accurate. Especially considering the two people around these parts that love to use the word 'fanboy' most often.
Monkey Saturn @ Feb 7th 2010 8:10PM
He possibly meant that the game will be so astoundingly good, that we'll be pissed of we aren't getting it immidiatly.........or so I hope
Tigre @ Feb 7th 2010 8:26PM
Molyneaux has been disappointing gamers with Fable since the first one released with all the empty promises. All these grandiose promises that never turn out to be true. Thats why people are over his tired song and dance.
BigFat @ Feb 7th 2010 8:34PM
"i don't think either Fable was bad, or even just average. they were pretty good games that were made less than excellent because of the main man involved."
that doesn't make any sense. How could the game have been better without Molyneux exactly? or better yet, how does one man effect weather a game is good or not, since games are team efforts?
Sonic @ Feb 7th 2010 11:34PM
Its going to be co-developed with Activision to be the next Modern Warfare game.
Fable: Modern Warfare.
xXAntibodyXx @ Feb 7th 2010 7:06PM
Considering how much Molyneux exaggerates everything, the announcement will probably be some tiny little issue like the player can't fart anymore.
The Baron @ Feb 7th 2010 7:11PM
He's taken it to a whole new level now. This time even the pre-release PR is going to be a disappointment!
Toop @ Feb 7th 2010 7:38PM
This makes so much sense...
abelpc @ Feb 7th 2010 7:38PM
No Farting? that was the best part of the GAME!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
kenny goo @ Feb 7th 2010 7:07PM
In other words, it's got a lot to do with Natal, and people are going to hate that, but he thinks everyone will come around eventually.
I guess we'll see right?
Mr Khan @ Feb 7th 2010 7:07PM
Natal exclusivity. That would definitely piss some people off
MrAlex @ Feb 7th 2010 7:19PM
I was thinking that too, but it's probably just nothing to draw out hype.
Armageddon @ Feb 8th 2010 2:54AM
I agree Khan it probably will be Natal exclusive and I bet some will be pissed off but mostly the people who are unwilling to try new things.
Snake Robot Podium @ Feb 9th 2010 11:33AM
I dunno, if that was it he would've said "People are going to be very excited", since he seemed to love it so much at E3
JasonDash @ Feb 7th 2010 7:08PM
I reckon they've probably brought it up to a far more modern era. In World War 2.
Bradwart @ Feb 7th 2010 7:08PM
It's Natal.
Before anyone else, I'd like to send a big "screw you!" to Molyneux.
dextro @ Feb 7th 2010 7:09PM
I think it's Natal aswell. Fable 3 is probably going Natal only. (I know that would piss me off)
Wiizer {'''Try'''Replying'''Now'''} @ Feb 7th 2010 7:10PM
The only other thing I could think of is Fable losing its exclusivity...
But, how could that happen?... amirite?
Wiizer {'''Try'''Replying'''Now'''} @ Feb 7th 2010 7:15PM
Oh wait, someone below me pointed out it's not coming out in 2010.
That's a safe bet.
