Pour one out for Halo 2 and the original Xbox with Bungie on April 14
76
The plasma party may be almost over for those of you still gripping tight to your Xbox 1 and copy of Halo 2, playing game after desperate game before Microsoft shuts the online servers, but Bungie is looking for fans to join staff members in a last hurrah on April 14. Community manager Brian "Sketch" Jarrard proclaims on Bungie.net that, "We're all saddened at the realization that an era is coming to an end," before asking fans to "mark your calendars now - on April 14th let's all rally to go online for one last hoorah." And sure, he might not explicitly mention the emptying of various malt beverages from 40 ounce glass bottles, but that's why we read between the lines. It's right there, people!

This could set an ugly precedent. All you console gamers who buy these multiplayer DLC map-packs maybe should think twice about an investment that eventually will be yanked and made entirely useless? Although 5-6 years is a long time, if these companies don't pull the plug any earlier on current gen multiplayer games.

I dont see how it's an ugly precedent to stop support for a game and a console that came out six and nine years ago respectively, especially when they both have perfectly apt successors.

Black is another of the games set for cancellation, right?
I've been enjoying Halo 2 Vista on my gaming-grade Media PC/HDTV/360 pad setup for over a year now. With plenty of servers up, enhanced graphics that look great at 720p with some AA/AF, and good integration with the 360 pad, I think April 14 will be just another April 14 (though I will probably be scrambling around getting ready for my son's sixth birthday two days later).

not sure about the balance, but it was a glitchy game. Not game brakingly glitchy, but having a sniper superjump to some unreachable place was annoying as all hell.
I hate to sound like a troll or kick the hive that is the easily trolled Halo fanbase, but Halo 2 was nothing significant in the large scale of things. It was a massively marketed game, and that's about it. Hell, even Doom had online multiplayer.
That and they make it sound like Halo 2 was the only worthy xbox live game. Shit, I'd rather do some Unreal Championship 2.

Unless you already have all the DLC maps on your 360 you probably won't be able to take part since MS already took them down. :( Pretty shitty move MS, pretty shitty.

Bungie is working on a fix: they'll either get the content back on Marketplace or rebuild the playlists to make them not mandatory.
There's always the Multiplayer Map Pack disc, missing only the two maps from Certain Affinity.

^^ Yup, xbconnect gets rid of the dedicated servers argument........as long as the game supports LAN, which Halo 2 does.

Wow. Joystiq deleted my comments which were the truth. Halo 2 is the most glitchiest and fouled mouth multiplayer game ever conceived. It is the reason we have overpriced DLC.
How much is Microsoft paying you guys to delete any comment against their cash cow.
