Just in time for Valentine's Day, Amazon is now offering a special buy two, get one free deal on Xbox 360 Platinum Hits titles. The deal is fairly straightforward: just pop three Platinum Hits games into your cart and the cheapest of the three will be knocked down to the wallet-friendly price of zero dollars. It's really the perfect excuse to pick up some great games you might have missed, especially considering many of them have sequels out this year -- notably Fable II, Halo 3, Fallout 3, Mass Effect, BioShock and Dead Rising. You'd better do it quick though, as the offer is only valid through February 13 and only while supplies last.
[Thanks, Goldenchild]

Well this is a good reason for me to finally go and buy Dead Rising. I'm not sure which other two games I want though.

No, the Fable II and ME covers are still jacked up. Logos that don't belong.

Wow, why do they go out of the way to punish people for buying "Platinum Hits" games? Look at how they butchered the Bioshock box art. I could get them cheaper at gamestop or gamefly used and still have a decent cover too.
It's like those cars you know are from DriveTime or Carmax because of the ugly logo on the back.

Platinum Hits games should never be more than $20. For shame, Microsoft.

Question, as someone who is a rather new 360 owner should I play through Mass Effect 1 first? I've played a bit of 2 and loved it, I'm guessing I'm probably going to get a resounding yes but I would still like some imput. Cheers.

as i told a friend of mine, there's no penalty for not playing ME1, but rewards for the playing it are great.

In my opinion, ME1 is a far inferior game than its sequel. My roommate's played them both, and I know I would never want to put up with ME.
BUT I guess if you don't do ANY side quests it would be a lot better, as that was where most of the problems were in the first game.
BUT why would you want any problems at all? ME2 is awesome. And, yeah, it's 7:45 AM. Please, pardon the rambling.

I find ME1 to be better than ME2. I liked the real-time elevator load screen than the ME2 load screen. Landing on a planet in ME1 was way more fun than the epically boring planet mining in ME2. ME2 was shorter than ME1 and yet it requires 2 discs.

It depends on whether you like RPGs or just want ME2 for the amazing action/combat elements of it.
The story, the leveling, etc was all better in ME. But ME had just an average combat system (good for an RPG, bad for a shooter). ME2 captured a whole new audience because it added an amazing combat system that could have stood on its own in a straight up shooter even if you removed all the story and character elements from the game.
If you fall into the latter category of just wanting to play ME2 as a shooter for the fun combat, there's no need to play the first one. If you're playing it to play an RPG, definitely play the ME1 first.

It's hard to say. I considered ME1 to be one of the best games on the 360. Having beaten ME2, I went back to ME1 to construct a more tailored import save to play again.
Maybe it's because I just want to get back to ME2, or because it's like my seventh playthrough, but it feels tedious.

Mass Effect is a good video game. Mass Effect 2 is a better one. That being said, ME1 has an epic story and really makes you care more about the characters in the sequel. It has its issues, but if you can look past that and just enjoy the presentation of the narrative as given, it's definitely worth a play through. It may not be a 10/10, but it's still a friggin' 9.

Mass Effect 1 is an awesome game. I like how Bioware proved that most people who complained about the elevators were stupid since the loading times are practically the same, but instead you get a loading screen.
It is a truly awesome game, and one of the best games of 2007. The pros far outweigh the cons. Also playing Mass Effect 1 is almost essential since there are characters who reappear depending on what you did, as well as decisions that will carry over to Mass Effect 3.
You truly feel like you are playing as Shepard since his (or her) story and decisions continue to carry over.

It took me a long time to get in to. (beat it a month or so ago) but in the end it was totally worth it. I would like to replay it though, because I put it on easy and just blew through the main quest and neglected a lot of the other things in the game. And it was still awesome.

Meh. I got Bioshock for free when I ordered BF: Bad Company from goHastings. 12 bucks each in the end. I think it was a screw up on their part though because the next day it was the same as this.

Just to be technical, a prequel is a type of sequel.

A prequel is a work that supplements a previously completed one, and has an earlier time setting. From pre- (Latin for "before") and sequel (a supplementing work with a setting later than its predecessor's, from the Latin sequella, thing that follows). The prequel forms part of the "back-story".

Anything released after the original work is technically a type of sequel...
WiredKNight is technically correct. The best kind of correct! ;)

Damn, a few days late and a dollar short. You guys should have posted when gamefly had a similar deal last week. Basically 10-15 dollars for most 09 games like Red Faction, Batman, etc etc.

The Halo 3 single player is very enjoyable. I know that it's the main reason that I bought it the moment it released.

Thought about doing it, was going to get
Fallout 3
Oblivion
Halo Wars (maybe Burnout)
But Fallout 3 wasn't GOTY so it didn't have all the DLC, which is what I really wanted....and yes I played Fallout and Oblivion but they were a roommates copy, and he no longer lives with me.
