* Gran Turismo 3 A-spec on the PS2 managed to sell 14,890,000 units
* Gran Turismo 4 has been the series' top earner, selling 10,980,000 units

Um..............what, or shall I say...............wut?

There's a reason A-Spec sold the most. It's the best, IMO.

Agree. I completley loved GT3.. sank countless hours into that beautiful game.

That being said, did 4 or any of the others get a console bundle? 3 had a nice PS2 bundle which im sure help moved alot more copies, I know thats how I ended up with it.

My PS2 had GT3 and ATV Offroad Fury included, along with a spare controller and DVD remote.

Best bundle ever.

That was a really good bundle indeed Brad. I got my PS2 in October of 2000 and it came with GT3 only, but no complains here, the game was awesome.

I remember ATV Off Road fury, me and my friends had a ton of fun with that game. Also, that was my first online game I've ever played, but I enjoyed the split screen more.

Getting 2 i-linked PS2s and two GT3 or GT4 discs and playing full screen against your pal is pretty damn cheap these days.

Just FYI. I think GT3 is just as much fun as the awesome Forza 3.

You'll need older, non Slim PS2's. I think it was the 5000x series when they phased out the iLink port.

Oh, I didn't know that. Never actually had a slim PS2. My PS2 is original vintage, and has always been rock solid, though the series didn't have the best reputation.

Heeeey... Don't go doing that... Damn it, I can't remember the username of the youtube account that has that as his catchphrase...

Anyway, great to see that Gran Turismo on the PSP is doing so well, I expected worse sales. Good to see the fans are still hanging on even without the careermode. I'll probably get it once the price has gone down a few notches.

Not that hard to figure out. I think Bradwart meant to reply to you. GT3 must have sold more at a lower price poiint than GT4, allowing GT4 to make more money with less units sold.

They probably meant revenue. So I guess that would mean more people bought GT4 new and more bought GT3 after it went Greatest Hits.

Is there going to a trade-in or upgrade program for people who bought GT5: Prologue? 5 million glorified demos is a buttload.

Why would they do that? They know the suckers who payed $40 for a demo will gladly throw $60 for the game.

The game was plenty big, and you got to play it 2+ years before the next installment. Polyphony/Sony don't don't owe anyone anything.

i gotta be honest i bought it and don't regret it .. played the first few races hoping their was A BIT MORE races then it offered but it's the best $40 + i spent ! the Developers definitly earn it. i own ALL but one Gran Turismo and that's GT 2 GT 3 i got when it was Greatest Hits GT4 i happened too like more cause ( tho it can be boring ) i liked controlling my car in a specific mode ( think it was called B Mode ) where you see the alphabet race in a loop or whatever the track design was, So i would be Car A and their was car B,C,D,E and F and my car would be the fastest so i would PUSH the car too the limit and it was over lap others like crazy. i remember one race i over lapped people SO BAD that .. well ... i won the race and the other drivers were 50+ laps behind me.

BRING ON GT5 !!!!

GT5 Prologue was more than a glorified demo. It wasn't quite a full game which is why it wasn't quite the price of a full game. I bought it new for $30 in 2008 and never regretted that purchase. It is a great game and I just recently got the wheel which makes the experience even better.

GT5 is going to be stellar.

No, both games started at 49.99. But GT3 hit GH status earlier, to help push more consoles no doubt, plus the bundles.

there's a difference between top seller and top earner. presumably, GT4 has made them more money, perhaps through a higher price, some sort of bundle, or a longer time before the price was reduced.

either way, the statements make sense.

Cries to change the comment system prompted Engadget to do something.

They made it worse.

Given that possibility, I wouldn't change a thing on Joystiq.

Love Gran Turismo PSP. It's the most amazing piece of software. The reviews that gave it bad scores are so wrong. Who cares if there is no career mode. There are tons of driving challenges, and tons of tracks to race and attain an S rank on. Such a huge amount of cars and tracks, and the amazing graphics, are just absolutely incredible for a 5 year old portable gaming machine. It's better, by far, than anything on the iPhone or DS.

Gran Turismo is quite simply the BEST driving simulator for the masses. It will continue to sell like hotcakes to car lovers all around the world for a long time to come. I cannot wait for Gran Turismo 5.
