In a time-honored Peter Moore tradition, the EA Sports head recently opened up for an interview on a variety of subjects in the game industry. This time, the oft fake-tattooed gentleman exposited on the future of OnLive and his company's investment in the upcoming PlayStation Motion Controller (supposedly named "Arc"). "I don't know about OnLive," Moore told CVG, responding to the question of whether or not the cloud gaming service will become the "iTunes of gaming." He does, however, see opportunity in burgeoning distribution and pricing methods. "If a consumer's got five bucks to spend on some cool DLC; if they love Tiger Woods but want to be able to play online and invest $10 or $15 over a period of time ... those are the things we need to look at."
As far as his interest in the "Arc" goes, he says that he's seen the hardware in action and thinks it'll be a "great complement to what's out there." He directly points out its distinction from the Wii's motion controller and reconfirms EA Sports' development of games with Sony motion in mind -- he even names tennis and golf as prime contenders as each sport lends to an "authentic sports motion" (at least with what he's seen on the Wii). Frankly, we're just about as excited as could be to finally show off our lacking sports skills as games based on sports creep closer to reality.

Hate to break it to you, but it's not coming out this spring.

Yeah, I'm excited for it too. A third person sword/shield game would be sweet. Throw in some puzzles, lots of swordplay. Heck, you could make it 3 different classes (warrior/archer/mage) where you use the 'arc' to simulate each on. We've seen the warrior/archer combo already but it wouldn't be that hard to develop a whole spell system based on gestures like they did in D&D.

So you need two of these Arcs (sex toys with lights on them) to play a game effectively, as well as a an Eye Toy? Thats a hefty investment for something thats maybe got the potential to be 20-30% better than the Wii (if at all). Why not take the stupid wand out of the equation and go the Natal route? Just seems less cumbersome (feel free to label me a fanboy, but I'm buying a PS3 very soon so its a mute point).

If they can make the Wii version of Tiger 10, but with the online, graphics, and organization that the PS3 has with the Arc, then I can't wait for that. Hopefully devs support the Arc more than the did with the Eye.

I totally agree.
I wish the PS Eye wasn't released so early. Maybe the lighting in my living room is bad, but the quality of the cam really isn't that great.
I wish that with the upcoming "Arc" controller support that it would be a hybrid of Natal and the Wii+ controls.

The eye is a great camera, technically, but in low lighting it looks grainy. That's just the way these cameras tend to be, though. For fast reaction time and good resolution, it's a good camera.
It's a shame all it's used for are player snapshots, because it's not really good at that.

I don't see what Sony could do with it, MS would be a safer bet since they are experienced in the whole PC gaming space

Well the Eyetoy didn't do terrible, not great though. Anyways, I'm guess Arc paired with PS3 eye will be between $60-$80 and Natal will probably be around $60 as well. So I think it comes down to the games and appeal.

With so many games being multiplatform on PC and consoles, is one reason for MS and Sony to create their motion technologies so their games cannot be ported to the PC? That's one thing I worry about.
So now Nintendo will have to on-up MS and Sony as 360/PS3 owners will now be even less apt to get a Wii if their games have the same functionality but better graphics, online, etc. Wii games are already trickling to the PS3/360 like No More Heroes.
I support OnLive if to bring new gamers into PC gaming, especially console gamers. But I don't want it to completely replace "physical" gaming. Let OnLive serve as a compliment.

Will will be fine. The people who buy wii are quite happy with 5 minute - 30 minute Mini games with either very loose or no narrative to tie them together. Sony fans seem to want a lot more narrative and Microsoft fans seem to want longer interaction with other people. PC fans want control of their experience via power of the machine and mods. Honestly this gen we could feasibly see each platform have 50 something million gamers each all happy with what they have. Seems to be the jokers under the bridge posting in comments and forums who really seem dissatisfied with others having fun with what they have.
I can't comment on OnLive cause I think being successful will kill them. So the only way for them to succeed is to not do that well.

I agree that Nintendo is not losing any sleep.
they can slap Mario on a game and sell well. Actually, that's unfair. Nintendo knows that if they make a solid game and slap Mario on it, it will sell well. they have kept actual game quality good and have beloved IP. The wii is very expensive when you add everything up, but it's profit all the way.
I don't know why MS wouldn't release NATAL for laptops. Seems smart to me that they would have a wii like quality level for all those laptops with camera (that meet a certain spec). Maybe in a generation or so.

Though honestly I see them both doing well. I know I will be buying Arc where as you will most likely be buying Natal. With this gen I think it's more of a preference thing.

I'm actually waiting to get RE5 until the Arc comes out. The Wii version of RE4 was the best imo and I feel that the PS3 version of RE5 with the Arc will be the same. But with co-op!

If it is over $100 I don't think it will sell well at all. If Sony has learned anything from this gen it's overpricing things. The PS3 eye you can get for $30 now (I think, correct me if I'm wrong) and I don't expect the Arc to cost more than $50 alone.
As for Natal, I don't know the specs but it can't be that expensive to manufacture, MS has always been pretty good on the pricing side of things (With the exception of Hard Drive space)

I think 70-100 for Natal (bundled with a Wii Sports esque title) and 50 for standalone Arcs, 80 with the Eye.

@Traceur_Ryuk And software. Just did a quote for a company here to upgrade the software they have to continue doing work and it came out to 181.9 Million dollars ($US 1.9million) For just continuing to do the same things they did last year that feels a little heavy :)

Not price. Software. Software is why people put up with paying $90 for a glorified bathroom scale, or hundreds of dollars in plastic instruments. The right software will overrule price concerns, even if it is a bit too expensive, the wrong software will make what could otherwise be a bargain sit on shelves interminably.

The amusing thing about Natal and the Ark, is they are just trying to copy Nintendo's idea of using motion based controls on a home console. Just look how EA is talking about making Motion based games of Tennis and Golf, it's not like that hasn't been done yet

On the contrary, the wii was following in Sony's footsteps, since this was their idea long ago. If this even matters. It shouldn't be "funny" this is how gaming works. there's a reason the Dualshock looks like the SNES controller, and all the modern controllers look like the Dualshock. There's a reason everyone has something like Live, and next gen will have something like Home.
This is good. What works is mimicked. Nintendo made the wand thing work, and that was quite a risk. They have to keep innovating, or they will once again fall way behind.

See but that is the thing, you have to innovate, but it seems to me that Sony and Microsoft are just trying to copy a popular formula. I have nothing against Sony and Microsoft. They make good games, and good consoles which each have their own strengths and weaknesses, but these motion controllers don't seem to be anything new or revolutionary. Until they show that these are a step ahead and can improve gaming(or at least make a difference), then they are just another gimic to gain more money.

I disagree. I think it'll be the first gen games that'll make it work or fail. Both techs can do the job.
Natal has the wow factor but none of it's worth anything without the games. If the core gamers don't bite both will be doa.
