PS3 is pretty great, and you can't go wrong with a 360 either... But you'll still be better off with an SNES.

Well if youre already a PC gamer, that would be the logical choice...since there really isnt that much of a difference between a 360 library and a PC library.

I acknowledge the online improvements 360 pioneered, but it's beyond me how they STILL haven't redesigned their flawed hardware. PS3 came out a year later, and they redesigned a more efficient console. Putting out a 3 year warranty doesn't "fix" the issue.

i enjoy the PCs online infrastructure much better.

if i got a console, it would be a ps3, and it wouldn't be for online play (at least not a deciding factor).

Snes had Contra 3, Zelda, and Super Metroid

And I think having the greatest Mario game of all time (Super Mario World) automatically makes it win.

I was primarily a PC gamer for a long time but it was the 360 that brought me back to consoles. Gears specifically. (Jokes on me when it came to the PC) But I like my PS3 too. If you were already a PC gamer there really isn't too much of a point to getting an xbox over a PS3 right now since most 360 exclusives are on the PC as well and the PC (steam specifically) has a better online infrastructure.

Genesis had the Shining Force series(still good Strategy RPG worth playing through on an emulator) and Sword of Vermillion(One of the first action-rpgs ever. Diablo is basically a Sword of Vermillion clone /w a billion improvements).

Genesis really pioneered new gameplay types. If you try those two titles on an emualator or an old genesis machine, you'd see what I mean. Mario was a not-bad platformer on Snes but didn't really pioneer platformers when you consider the master system had Kid Icurs and a few others. Even the original nintendo had Mario. Being Mario from the Nintendo to Snes wasn't really innovation. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Now that I have an HDTV I plan on getting a PS3 soon. Sadly, more for the Bluray than the games, but there's still plenty good games to be had. I just already have a PC, 360, and Wii. So all that's left for the PS3, gaming wise is its exclusives and it doesn't have a lot of them.

And you fools out there. SNES > Genesis. I don't care about pioneering that's so subjective it's not worth arguing. Most importantly though, it just had damn good games. Final Fantasy IV, V, VI. Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island. Star Fox, Pilot Wings, Mario Kart, Donkey Kong Country 1,2,3. Super Metroid. Act Raiser, Soul Blazer, Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, Kirby, F Zero, Mega Man, Super Punchout, Super Mario RPG, Earthbound, Zelda, Star Wars trilogy, Breath of Fire, Breath of Fire II, Harvest Moon, Super Bomberman, EVO, Lufia, Sim City, Etc, etc.

Those were just the exclusives that came to mind, let alone the cross platform titles. Sure, many of those titles have been killed to death with sequels but they were fresh and good during the SNES days. Please, match that list for Genesis. Perhaps I can enjoy even more gaming pleasures.

I've been a PC only (Excluding the (S)NES) gamer since I started playing video games (1996; ah Doom and Ninja Gaiden.. how I wonder how my 5 year old self handled you two.)

Long story short; I bought a HDTV not too long ago, an decided to get a blu-ray player with it, enter PS3.

I've yet to regret that choice. (Well, I would love a new gfx card... meh, I'll buy that too. Yay for having a job!) I'm still a primary PC gamer, so far the only games I have on my PS3 are the GoW collection, Uncharted, and the first Rachet and Clank (for the PS3) (I can't justify paying full price for games; which is why I love the greatest hits line; and the well priced GoW collection.)
Oh yeah, I also bought Fat Princess, Pixel Junk Shooter, and a friend bought me MvC2. Good fun.

I love how it connects to my laptop via blutooth allowing me to view pictures, movies, and songs stored on my laptop, on my HDTV. (Too bad the file types are so limited :C Makes fo very limited use.)

But yeah; still not going to buy FPSs on a console; that's a direct violation of my own moral code.
I am physically unable to aim well with analog sticks. Though I am getting better with it in Uncharted, thank god the enemies take forever to shoot. It offsets my slow speed.

tl;dr PS3 is an excellent companion for the PC gamer.

P.S. Uncharted is awesome.

P.P.S. Can't wait for Uncharted 2 and Demon's Souls to become greatest hits :U
3D Dot Hero also looks fun.

P.P.P.S what was this article about again?

The 360 can't be re-designed to fix its flaws b/c according to all accounts, it's so fubared, they've have to essentially just release the Xbox 720.

Mind you, I do own one just for its exclusives, but there's always the slight trepidation it's gonna melt down when it powers on.

@ Jerry.

Neither of those solutions are good enough.

First off, the Cyborg Rumble pad is downright awful. If you want a gamepad on the PC your best bet is honestly the 360 controller or even the PS3 controller with hacked up drivers. Those third party controllers are never up to par.

Secondly, the FragFX controller is no substitute for a proper KB/M. The mouse pretends to be an analog stick. This means the input is still analog, not linear. The effect is similar to turning "mouse acceleration" on in windows. And it's awful for gaming. Plus, as mice go your $60 FragFX has nowhere near the tracking quality of a proper gaming mouse for the same price or cheaper.

The only real solution is proper KB/M support on PS3 games. So far UT3 is the only game to actually take advantage of this awesome capability of the PS3, but sadly no one else has followed suit. As a PC gamer the FragFX is both disappointing and unacceptable as a replacement for a proper keyboard and mouse.

I honestly think it comes down to which console you bought first. I'm one of the few that bought the PS3 first and 360 second, and whether or not everyone wants to admit it, they are extremely similar systems, with similar libraries, similar online experiences, etc. Sure, there are differences... But where most got used to a more robust online social environment, I got used to a free, slightly less socially based online service.

Now that I have a 360, I can finally say that they are both great systems. If I HAD to get rid of one, it would probably be the 360, because I don't see myself paying for Live for the rest of the console's life span. But that's just me.

Also... I like the shape and layout of the PS3 controller much better than 360... I just wish the analogues from the 360 could be moved over to the PS3 controller.. And not because they are concave! I like the rubbery convex sticks on the DS3, because it more closely moves with my thumbs... But because the 360's sticks are a bit more sensative and seem to have a bit less of a dead zone.

The end.

i gotta say, as a PS3 supporter (and lifetime Playstation owner), i gotta say i was skeptical when those analyst where saying that PS3 would win the console race but man, Sony sure has turned the ship around. i mean the PS3 is NOT going to catch the Wii but the 360 is certainly in reach as far as global marketshare. but i have to say, i'm really loving how level the playing field is compared to console wars of the past. each one is pretty similar in structure but brings different strengths to the table. enough that i actually bought all 3 consoles this gen (and both handhelds too), first time i've ever done that in all my years of gaming. and this longer life cycle is making it a good time to be a gamer for sure.

Although the spike in sales from all the fence-sitters finally jumping in may wear off, there is absolutely no reason why the "regular" sales wouldn't be higher than before the price drop. After all, it is now available for a larger market.

I think you missed this part "It's worth noting that the increase in sales in Europe predates the price drop and introduction of the PS3 Slim."

I think you missed how that was trying to say that it is possible that it really might not be just due to the price drop and new model.
