The initially Xbox 360-exclusive BioShock was one of the major salvos in the ongoing console wars, waged on message boards and comment sections everywhere (including right here on this very site). Speaking with Destructoid, BioShock 2 producer Jordan Thomas expressed hope that the multi-platform sequel -- which launches today -- doesn't play a similarly divisive role. According to Thomas, "platform partisanship" is just silly and it "seems to flood the critical channels and drown out other creative discourse."
Which sounds about right -- whenever a piece of news comes up that swings even close to the differences between the various consoles, the discussion usually degenerates into the same old arguments, and new and more interesting issues get drowned out like Andrew Ryan's old city. 2K Marin didn't ask in so many words, but we will: Would you kindly all just get along?

Yes, Hyams, but that would require everyone to visit gaming news sites to be intelligent. Judging by the 7 year olds playing Halo out there, that isn't happening. There will always be idiots. Always.

Yeah, I am lucky enough to own them all this generation, as well. Pretty much the only thing that keeps me more loyal to one over the other at this point is the controller. But I will keep which controller I prefer to myself so as not to incite a console war debate.

@NoughtSoObvious
I actually prefer the 360 controller to the other two.

Well, isn't that the kind of trouble you ask for if you make an exclusive title..?

Yeah, we shouldn't blame anyone one company for the console wars that Sony totally started.

I thought Atari started the console war when they sued Magnavox over KC Munchkin on the Odessey 2.

Without exclusives, there is no need to choose in between an Xbox or a PS3. This could start a hardware monopoly. And monopoly is bad for the consumer. Exclusives are not necessarily bad.

Right on, and by rights it should spur more creative responses from other teams. Which is good for the industry as whole and all consumers of the software.
The only flaw I see in this utopian ideology is that most of these dev teams are not being paid by any of the big three per se, so they need to get the content out on as many platforms as possible. Else they have no job.
It would also help to have a sound money system in place that promotes good.....meh...nevermind. Just know there's a better way out there.

@Space: It there was only one console, the manufacturer could charge as much as he want, and you had to pay, or GTFO. And the technological advance would be slower.
With more competition, better technology, better products, better price.

I'd say it has more to do with the immaturity level of a lot of video game enthusiasts. It's kind of sad how it's common knowledge that the average gamer is something like 20-35 years old but at the same time most games are made to target teenage boys with ADD.

I HATE console-exclusive games. While Im glad I have a PS3 since I love God of War and Uncharted (LBP was a blast too), I would like to give the likes of Mass Effect, Halo, and Fable a go.

Well Bob, since you did post at 7:30am this morning, I assume you were at home. If you were, I also assume you posted this using your computer (unless you were using your phone's browser). If that's the case, all three of those games are available on the PC and they dont' require any heavy specs to use in today's PC market.

Aided and abetted by "pro" game bloggers damn near every single time.
Oh, sure, they like to make-believe they're standing on the sidelines scratching their heads, wondering why commenters say the things they do, closing their posts with disingenuous remarks like "Would you kindly all just get along?" But it's all bullshit. "Pro" bloggers don't answer to their readership -- they answer to the person signing their paychecks, and that means succulent flame bait to drive page views up.
