Doesn't surprise me. The game is kickass all around. I really have to agree with Tmac by saying it's one of the most influential games ever. But, I have to disagree with tmac by saying: BioShock 2 > Mass Effect 2.

I like ME1 better than ME2. ME2 has been made to appeal kids who like action and hate management. There's too much of "hey, a planet"

I gotta jump on the trolley and agree with Ballistic H. Can't remember if he's the same dude that agreed with me in some other thread. I miss the Mako & planet wondering, the loading screens blow, hacking & bypass are stupid even though they don't take too long, I feel more confined, and I personally don't really care about the improved combat system. I didn't care about the combat being kinda borked in the 1st one.

That said, I'm sinking an asinine amount of time into ME2 so it's more than possible I'm being overly critical and am too fondly remembering the original with rose colored glasses.

The game also feels shorter and there are less places to explore. The 3 Citadel levels feel like a luxurious loft compared to the huge Presidium in ME1. And yet it's on 2 discs instead of one.

Same here, I also just LOVE how they fixed the weapon overheating problem.... by getting rid of your unlimited ammo. (What if I WANT my weapon to overheat, huh?! Give me back my glorious Bottomless Sniper Rifle, you bastards!) No planet exploration made me sad, the worlds seemed kinda small, the weapon upgrade system was boring as hell and provided no room for Diablo-esque tweekery, and I'm still kinda pissed the hot blue chick didn't like me. And that final boss went down like an anemic kitten with pneumonia.

Redeeming qualities: Mordin, LEGION. To a lesser extent, Thane. But mostly LEGION.

...I'm still going to buy Mass Effect 3 at launch, because I'm a whore for Bioware.

At first, I spent the game saying "this is good, but ME1 is better".

Then I went back and played ME1. "Wow, this is incredibly tedious!"

I blame BioWare.

So you missed what was easily the worse part of ME1? Thank god Bioware took it out.

You didn't drive the Mako around.

The Mako raped you when you tried to steer the effing thing.

It was a disaster.

I had to what, hop to avoid fire from geth primes? WTF?

It was daft. You had to turn and twist and do all sorts of stupid stuff to move forward. Bleh. I don't miss it.

I wanted to go back and finish off the end of the first one to change the outcome (I realized that turfing the Council might not be the best option ;)) and good GOD the end trench run combined with trying to figure out where the HELL you need to go on Illium?? I wanted to smack a bitch.

There are only 3 things about ME2 i did not like

Lack of Weapons (only heavy weapons has a decent amount of variety)
Lack of Exploration (planets and especially cities seem way to small)
Too much probing (and of all things Uranus is already depleted of minerals)

I guess you could add a 4th. The upgrade system is just built on a giant series of redundant upgrades. It would be cooler if you could see the upgrade and it did things more than add damage or increase accuracy.

The best part of driving the Mako was that you could position yourself on the far outskirts of a base/camp/etc, and snipe everyone. Now, you're placed at someone's back door, and your sniper rifle doesn't seem to zoom in as far.

@ Ballistic

how can the game feel shorter? ME1 took me roughly 15-18 hrs to complete everything possible in the game, I've read from multiple sources that ME2 can have over 100+ hrs without even touching the main story...

100 hours without the main story? LOL. Try 45ish for everything (and that was on insanity).

Or try playing a game before you comment on it.

ME2 is better than ME1 because a lot of the tedious stuff from ME1 was fixed or removed.

That said, it can feel shorter because you don't spend 20 hours driving around barren planets in the Mako. I missed this at first, and the probe thing is almost just as tedious, but the game is better without it.

I'm glad they didn't include the same old area of the Citadel to explore. That would have been lame.

The amount of levels you play to find crew members and make them loyal is more action than ME1 provided. ME1 had like 8 big levels to play before you won the game, if all you did was ply the main quest.

There are minor things that I would have liked (music aboard the Normandy, a little better "relationship" scene with Tali, etc.), but I still enjoyed ME2, and there is no doubt that it is a big improvement over ME1.

Overall, it took me about 48 hours to finish the game with all my crew alive and all but one loyal, about 98% of the upgrades, and 95% planets explored. It's a great game, and I will be playing through it again now as renegade for all those awesome renegade moments.

NOT ENOUGH. Seriously, just 1 million? That seems unlikely to recover what they spent on marketing alone. I hope either PC sales were much higher or it has long legs.

1.1 million copies in 5 days of sales isn't good enough?

You're insane. Yes marketing games costs a lot, but they are making their money back big time.

Well, as far as marketing goes, they must have spent a pretty penny to buy up an ENTIRE ad slot during the last two minutes of the NFC Championship game to show that super badass 2 minute long trailer.

But keep in mind, this is 1.1 million sold in JANUARY. The game came out on January 26th. 1.1 million units in 5 days is beyond amazing for a space RPG.

Then the pipeline of DLC and eventual expansion will keep the gravy train moving along. But, most games sell the best in that first week of release then fall of considerably so the whole "5 days of sales" isn't really relavant. I doubt it sells more in the entire month of February than it did in those 5 days of January. It'll have good legs going forward, though. I don't see it outselling Bioshock 2 or anything ... It'll comfortably eclipse the sales of the first game, for sure.

I'm not insane, I'm just exaggerating. Obviously marketing didn't cost that much, but did you see how long those credits were? That's a shitload of salaries to pay, I hope Johnny's right and these are just NA sales, but even if they are they're still pretty disappointing. I can't see the DLC making that much money. I'm sure they will anyway, but it doesn't seem like EA has much of a reason to make a third game.I guess if that earnings report stuff is anything to go on though, they're counting on lots of ancillary stuff

On a side note, I keep trying to lay Miranda and keep getting the "I'll stop by when there's a free moment" response. It's frustrating, but I'm kind of ok with it because of how funny Shepard sounds when he says "ohhhhh, I'm interested."

If the history of other 360 games that come out much later on the PS3 is any indication, about 1/5th as much.

And that's not considering that this is a story driven sequel that would be going to a console that doesn't have the first half of the story, so probably even less than the normal 1/5th amount.

It's funny, Darksiders was one of the biggest game disappointments for me.

I was expecting to love it, I thought it would be far better than Bayonetta, and it wasn't for me.

ME2, however, far exceeded my expectations. I've never had so much fun playing a video game.

Having a character warp a barrier, incinerate armor and then allowing me to reave them into non-existence? Best. Game. Ever.

For me Bayonetta wasn't as good as Darksiders but I do like both of them. The only thing thats a little frustrating about Darksiders is all the backtracking and its a little overkill on some of the puzzles. But, on the whole, it really surprised me with how awesome it was.

If Bioware were going to port ME to the PS3, don't you think they would have by now? Been over 2 years now since ME1 dropped.

These bioshock/gta arguments... weren't they ported to the ps3 within a year?

Huh? I'm a little confused. That article didn't mention anything about sales. It was talking about how much each game was "played", right?

And even then, the article is misleading as MW2 still dominates.
