A great deal of news came out of EA's Q3 earnings report yesterday; enough to make us overlook this item: The early 2011 listing for Dead Space 2 didn't reference a PC version of he title, as was previously announced. Blue's News reportedly contacted Electronic Arts about the absence of the listing, and was told by a representative that "as of right now a PC sku is not in the plan."
That doesn't mean a PC version of the game is never coming out -- after all, the game's release window is still a year away. We've contacted EA to see exactly what "the plan" entails. Perhaps an elaborate casino heist?
Update: An Electronic Arts representative responded to our query, stating "Visceral Studios is dedicated to delivering an outstanding Dead Space sequel for the Xbox 360 and PS3. A PC SKU is under consideration. Nothing additional at this time."

One of these reasons
Visceral doesn't want to work on a PC port
Piracy
Lack of market-how well did the first sell on PC?
Or EA just hates all PC gamers and wanted to be evil.

The first one on PC was a horrible console port: the controls were not PC friendly at all.

Even if a port to the PC isn't as good as it could be, they usually are fixed up thanks to patches and mods. Look how broken Resident Evil 4 was on the PC but the mods have made it better than the console versions. Same with even GTA4, the patches and mods have made that much more playable now, even on lower end rigs.

It wasn't all that bad, aside from the Vsync mouse lag issue (which can be fixed easily). I believe the game supports remapping keyboard keys as well.
For a SP horror game, I find that the PC version still has an acceptable amount of input control.

The PC port of Deadspace was terrible for all the reasons mentioned as well as the terrible FOV. Felt like you could see about 20% of what was in front of you after taking away the screen space that the main character took up.
I ended up playing it on PC but with a 360 pad.
It's strange because I played it on console too and even though the FOV seemed the same, it didn't bug me at all. *shrugs*
And finally to go on a bit of a rant... I see so many console games which end up on the PC with virtually no PC customisation often making those games tedious for PC users and then the devs are surprised that the game doesn't sell well?
"We put out a lacklustre port and the sales are lacklustre too!? How?!" *rolleyes*

i dunno.. i played dead space on PC and thought it was awesome. had no issues with the controls or anything... though I didn't play it for any other system, so I don't have a basis for comparison.
just saying, standing alone, it was just fine for me.

yes, mods can fix it; but why would I want to to support a port that had little to no effort put into it?
Either way, I've only managed to play a small portion of the first Dead space on PC, and did not enjoy the experience; I'm certain it would most likely be very enjoyable with a gamepad, but the initial experience with it was enough to make me not care about the franchise. So I won't be missing Dead Space 2.
Don't write me off as a whiner; I'm just saying I've already been psychologically inclined to dislike the game. I do think promoting new franchises is key to the industry however, so I was very glad to see it as a hit on the consoles.

Ah, that sucks, I really enjoy the option of playing it with mouse/keyboard controls and higher-res/frame-rate that the current gen consoles don't support. But if I have to play it on the console I will.... *sigh*. It will still be an awesome game :-)

I know, PC you get higher frame-rates, resolutions, mod support sometimes and other settings. Don't forget the sweet ability to play them on a laptop on the go.
That's why I like as many games as possible coming to the PC. Its the most powerful and flexible platform but also seems to be hurting the most as well. I'd love to play Gears of War 2 on the PC at 60fps vs 30fps as I do with Gears 1!

I completely agree. I always pick up the PC version when there is a chance. I also know its the only version that will always be backwards compatible;)
As for PC gaming being dead. I do not agree. It is changing. While console games will be going to way of digital distro, PC games are already there (Steam / Impulse). Also, there is a much wider Indie base on PC than on console.

My opinion is that PC gaming is stronger that what it appears to be in the mainstream and with console gaming, the opposite.
Outside, you see consoles looking so successful but then you see how they are still losing money, going crazy over marketing and securing exclusive games and DLC, promotions, price cuts, fixing broken systems, etc.

Yeah, if you want to pay close to $1000. I just personally don't think PC gaming is worth the cost, the majority of my favorite games are console only and the few I do like I'm not gonna buy or build and expensive gaming rig for.

PC versions of games are always my first choice. Every time I get a new PC I can go back and replay the old games with my modern hardware creating better experiences than I initially had with them.
The experience on a console will barely change with new hardware. Sure sometimes they add a full screen anti-aliasing filtering or they load faster due to a faster drive etc... but not the amazing transformation that old games make on new PC hardware.
I'm super-saddened by this news.

Traceur_Ryuk, I don't think all of us should be forced to purchase expensive rigs but neither should consoles be the only option. If I have the choice to play a game at higher settings, why take it away and let me only play on consoles? Besides, the gap between the PC and consoles keeps growing, especially since this gen will be around for a while longer and as PCs which can surpass consoles get cheaper and cheaper. Its not a $1000+ difference but console gamers keep thinking that. Did you know an $800 laptop could play many multiplatform games better than a console?

I'm not saying anything should be taken away from the PC gamers. I just don't see the worth in it for me. $800 is still a lot of money, and as I said, I like most of the games that are console only, which is why I own a PS3 rather than a 360.
Also, I absolutely hate the feel of playing with a keyboard.

@Traceur_Ryuk It does not cost $1000 to make a gaming PC. You can put one together for around $500, then a huge library of games (new and old) open up to you. It just takes a little know how to build the actual system, which a lot of people no longer have. It is true, it is not as convent to put together a PC (but by no means "HARD") than to purchase a console, but I find the experience is better on the PC. But its just personal opinion. :)
ANYWAY it just stinks that there are less systems the game is being brought to. The more the merrier

If I was building a PC, it sure as hell wouldn't cost $500. But that's because I'd have to go with a Nehalem processor, twin GTX295's, a ton of DDR3, etc.

Okay so let's say with a monitor, tower, keyboard, mouse, and pretty much everything you'd need to play a PC game it'd be around $700 (what I paid for my laptop which can run Crysis fairly well).
Now for a comparable (keyword folks, make note of it) console experience you'd need at least $300 for the console (after waiting 4-5 years for the price drops), another $250-$300 or so for the 24" 720p HDTV, plus the extra $10 per game these days.
I mean I really do prefer console gaming myself, but the cost is about the same when you factor in the cost of the TV, extra controllers (optional, but affects some people), $10 "console tax" for new games, and how ridiculous systems were priced at the start of this generation.

i have posted before showing a nice list of components (including gaming mouse, monitor and keyboard, which you dont have to buy if you already have one, which almost everyone does), for a modern gaming pc that ran under 1000us.
if you take off the price of the gaming keyboard, mouse and 24inch screen, it would come out to around 600 dollars.
and it does more than just play games.
it only does everything.

PCs are great but they don't have as many good new games as consoles. They also require more dedication when it comes to knowing what game will or won't work. I prefer console gaming because it's tailored specifically to playing games. The fact is console gaming is more affordable and has a longer shelf life with more games. PC is almost dead because of the open architecture and piracy. Sony may lose money on each PS3 but as a whole they make more money because gamers buy services from them only. Even though pc graphics are considerably better it's not like the difference between sd and HD IMO. Keyboard isn't made for gaming, it's been adapted to it. For me, I'll get a game like GTA for PS3 and the only pc games I buy are stuff only there like sims & tropico. Console gaming is more affordable and that's why it's more popular, that and it has better games.

besides THQ and the random console exclusive, how often does the PC not get a game?
and besides, we own the RTS genre, MMO (i know everyone doesnt like it, neither do i) and we definitely own indie games.
and steam.
i think it's more than a fair trade.

Well it's just my personal opinion and I never said you had to subscribe to it. Just this year I've bought bayonetta, darksiders, mag and white knight and I'm pretty sure those aren't on pc. Consoles are starting to get mmos and rtss and all three consoles have burgeoning indy games that are usually exclusive. Just one mans opinion, not trying to dump on computer games. Really I think the pc has mostly been relegated to pc centric experiences like mmos and rtss. I also think steam is cool bc I like DD and I don't get why console owners are so hung up on owning a physical disc. Console exclusives are typically the best games imo. PC just seems to be more limited on the new stuff but it has a wider array of niche experiences. I'd take mgs4, lbp or UC2 over anything on PC ... Bit that's why I say I prefer console gaming because IMO the games are better. Doesn't mean it's true for you. Ya dig? I've been playing the he'll outta sims 3 & tropico 3 but if I had a choice I'd play them on playstation.

Ports have nothing to do with it and you know it.
I to used to pirate games when I was in college and online tools were not nearly as pervasive as they are now. In fact, knowing someone who BOUGHT the game on campus was like finding a woman with natural breasts in Miami / L.A.
I would bet that for every 100 games installed on a PC, 1 of them is purchased if it's not from an OEM dealer.
Piracy has killed PC gaming. Most PC gaming companies have gone under if they haven't adopted a console strategy by now.

Don't set your "past" self as the standard PC gamer.
Have over 200 games bought on my Steam account alone.
Of course this is over 3 years; and a good chunk of them are old PC goldens that you can buy for a buck.
And yes, it *was* a lackluster port. Not very bad, but bad enough to make me not want to buy it, let alone play it.

I hear the game had poor sales on the PC, that's a damn shame. I dunno if pirates are the only ones to blame, they are a very convenient scapegoat for these publishers as an excuse to crap on the PC.
I haven't played it yet however so I can't say if I'll miss it. I hear Lost Planet 2 also isn't coming to PC.

This is why PC gaming is dead... When big name titles don't have their PC version released day and date with their console counterparts, they're continuing to kick the PC gamer while their down. If this trend continue, the PC gamer will never be able to stand back up next to their Console brethren.

Well, Mass Effect on the PC came out months after the 360 version, whereas the sequel launched the same time for both platforms. That's one smidgen of positive news.
I just want these publishers and developers to come out and tell it like it is, why the hate for PC? Is it JUST because of piracy? Or some other reasons and you keep over-blowing piracy?

The first game launched less than a week after the console version and it apparently didn't sell very well. I agree that releasing games later on one platform doesn't do that platform any favors, but that's not the sole reason for poor sales as was shown by the first Dead Space.
