I have a feeling that this'll go the same direction as Battlefield 2142. Shame really; still looking for my Raven Shield fix...

I agree but the sad thing is that I'll still buy it because even though it will be watered down, it will probably be the best tactical console game this generation (next to maybe Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, which I actually like)

I personally don't like Sci-fi weapons for FPS games. (Star Wars is an exception :) )
Like laser guns and stuff like that.
I want bullets made with steel and gunpowder ! :D

Kill Zone 2 is Sci-fi but the weapons still use bullets, so I still liked it.
I wish the new GRAW still has bullets and not lasers.

When you say
" with invitations tied to another of Ubisoft's freshened franchises, Splinter Cell: Conviction"
Do you mean that Badass: The Game will come with a multiplayer beta code a la ODST & Reach?

I'm dying to know how far in the future this will take place. Kudos to Ubisoft if they beat Activision to the "future warfare" era. EA has two promising MW2 killers in the pipeline, so I suppose it's Ubi's turn to step up. Though I suppose by the time this game us released we'll be thinking in terms of BFBC2 killers. *runs for cover*

I'm uber-excited for this, though my only problem is that GRFS just doesn't have the same kickass ring to it as GRAW.

I really just want Conviction please. I've played the other Ghost Recon titles and they are ok, but I wouldn't be bothered to drop too much time/dosh on them.

I miss when tom clancy games were actually realistic and... fun. like the first two Ghost Recons and Rainbow Six 1-3.

At least Vegas 1 and 2 weren't total abortions like the GRAW series.

I miss the less technologically advanced Ghost Recon titles, same as you. I loved co-op modes where you didn't already know where the enemies were all located (Thanks, UAV). GRAW 1&2 seemed like they took alot of the challenge away when you could practically see through walls.

Rogue Spear was the BEST on PC. Siberian Base I was so pure, one of the best maps ever of any game.

So many classic moments.

"Rogue Spear was the BEST on PC"

Amen to that! I was a huge fan of the series and played the hell out of it. Still was my favorite PC MP game to play.

My complaints with GRAW and Rainbow Six Vegas was that when I picked up GRAW 2 and R6V 2 I felt like I had just placed the disc from the first game back in. Nothing new to the gameplay, weaponry or environment. At least with the jump further into the future there may be some changes although I wish that they had just set this most recent Ghost Recon in boring old 2010... but whatever. You could have had one of the team members being laid off mid way through the game because of the recession.

So if it hasn't been announced as a 360 exclusive; why only have the xbox tag? Seem like 'breaking' would work just fine. Don't need this to be more fanboy fodder.

PS3fanboy - "Ah, Ghost Recond sucks anyway?"
360fanboy- "Greatest shooter ever, or GREATEST shooter ever?!"

We only have the xbox tag, not the xbox-only tag. ;) It's the only platform mentioned so far, but why shouldn't this be of interest to readers of our Xbox spoke?

Wonderful. This article just killed any excitement I had for the next Ghost Recon.

Ubisoft has a way of making everything sound good: ""cutting-edge technology, prototype high-tech weaponry, and state-of-the-art single-player and multiplayer modes"

Sounds good on paper, but tranlated to english, this means:

"So ehhh yeah we dont really have anything new to add in so were just going to ehhhhh expand on GRAW 1.5 even more by ehhhhhhh making the NOOB TOOL (aka crosscom) just basically shoot all teh bad guys FOR the player! oh and then were going to throw ehhhhhh some new maps in and ehhhhh, call it a fresh, exciting multiplayer experience."

Oh, gotta love the part that says: "unparalleled level of quality that will excite long-time fans and newcomers alike."

what ubi is really saying:

ehhhhh yeah we dont care at all about the series veterans so were ehhhhhhh just gonna take all teh fun stuffz out of teh game by dumbing it down and making it way too simple and easy to attract more n()()Bs and ehhhhhhh give the player stuff taht basically tells them where the bad guys are and ehhhhh now in this game its just gonna shoot teh bad guys for em!

If you guy's havent realized, Ubisoft applied the "excite long-time fans and newcomers alike." line to Splinter Cell and Rainbow Six as well, and look. Both of those franchises have gone down hill and they have REALLY dumbed those games down (especially conviction) and said the game will

"excite long-time fans and newcomers alike."

Sorry guys, this is prolly gonna be GRAW 1.6. I really wish the series would return to its roots, but looks like thats not going to happen.

I wont be buying this, nor splinter cell conviction when that comes out.

That's rather funny, Ryan. I hated the GR series on xbox. Only reason I even gave GRAW a chance was because there were not a whole lot of games out for the 360 after it launched. Loved the GRAW series, and GRAW 2 did improve on GRAW 1. Hell, even if this were to turn into Graw 1.6, it'll still be a hellava lot better then taking a 5 year step back in time to the original GR.

Personally, I can't wait for this game.

the graw engine is far outdated now so it will be a brand new game...

They're going future again? I thought they would have got the message from graw. It was too futuristic and arcadey...

MWF2 killer? they're going for halo lol

get ready for rail guns, and sound beam technology

(sigh) I too miss the old days of ghost recon...the days where you had to take your time and do it right or somebody will send you to "observe" for the remainder of the round.

But let's face it video gaming is getting more plastic the more popular it becomes. Publishers want to make as much money as they can so they dumb it down so your little sister can play, and the vets will buy it based on fan-ism

Don't be surprised that this has natal support

What's the big issue with GRAW? I'm not a fanboy and I'm not whith the defensive mode turned on, just curious really. I've played the other ghost recons from the last generation, prior to the GRAW series and I were frankling in love with them. So I don't really get how come any ghost recon would suck, being on the GRAW entry or not.

"Update: According to one of Ubisoft's Twitter accounts, the "same experience, same development team and same release date" will be coming to PlayStation 3. Ubisoft's Kimi Matsuzaki also noted that PC details would come "later.""

AKA: 6 months to a year afterwards and featuring as much DRM as technically possible.

i just think that they should come out with a war game where if the helicopter gets shot down u have to make a crash landing and if teammates get wounded and cant move then u have to drag them to cover to have a medic heal them... just make them more realistic.. you know if you get shot in the leg make it to where u cant run.. they should also have a fire team leader whom can call in air strikes (etc).. they should also have desert maps and maps based on what iraq looks like.. all the buildings.. in my opinion if they had a game like that they could make alot of money off it because thats what people want is the feeling of real combat without actually having to go fight in real life.. also mostly everything should be destructable such as concrete walls, trees, anyways i just wish there was a real war game like that not to mention being able to open your parachute after jumping out of a helicopter
