Turn 10's Forza 3 has managed to attain double platinum status -- dubs plat in "cool kid" speak. Microsoft announced that the game sold over two million copies since its October release. The racer took just over a month to surpass one million sales, and has clearly been doing laps around the money pit ever since.
And hey, if you're wondering what you're missing in all of this hot pedal-on-metal action, there's a demo on Xbox Live right now.

The list is more to give you a sense of nostalgia for games that you forgot about. For me each of the titles on the list there's about 3 or 4 more I can remember around the time you played that one game.
It's not the best countdown but, it does give the theme off that the past 10 years of gaming have been pretty awesome...

I can't believe Halo isn't on their list seeing how ball slap happy IGN is for Halo. I suspect this list was created so IGN can release another one of their "shut up fanboy" articles/videos.
And look at their overall top 10 movies list. Ugh.

So fire up TextEdit and make your own, and then try and get people to read it.
It's not a bad list at all, considering the 10000+ people who were expected to read it. It meets most peoples standards at least partially with a good variety of genres and influences. My only serious complaint is the lack of BG&E, but that complaint shouldn't be taken seriously.
-----
It's also weird how they don't have GTA IV on there, considering it's like the only game they've given a 100% to this decade. Just more proof that grading games is meaningless.

IGN purposely ranked things stupidly in that list to get more hits on their website via the comments system.
There are simply too many ranking choices that are simply, objectively speaking, factually wrong.

It really is. My Xbox red ringed in October, then after Christmas I got a new one. The first game I got was Modern Warfare 2, and I started playing it non-stop. Shortly after I decided to pick up Forza 3 and once I started playing it I forgot all about MW2. I've always been a big fan of the Forza games.

yea it is a good game...as much as they were touting that they felt like they "took the torch and ran with it" in reference to the GT Dev team I would have thought the thing would sell a lot better than it has.....its pretty much already a guarantee that GT5 will break 2 million globally the first month....I mean GT5:Prologue has done what, almost 5 million?? Sure Forza 4 will most likely be out by 2012 but I am also guessing GT6 will be out around the same time as well...

Why's everyone voting down Chris's comment? GT5 Prologue has sold more than 4 million copies, and given the timeframe between GT3 and GT4, a GT6 two years after GT5 isn't unlikely.
That said, Forza 3 is easily the best racing sim I've played since GT3 and I really doubt GT5 will manage to pull off as streamlined and engaging of a career mode.

people don't want to believe that the MAIN reason for the HUGE amount of time between GT4 & GT5 is because they were going to release GT5 on PS2 and scrapped it when the PS3 came out and built it from the ground up for PS3 and in turn building the framework for the next few GT titles on PS3....which means they dont need to waste time on the physics engine or any of that in GT6 which will really cut down the dev time...that and this is a Forza article and mentioning "the arch nemesis" of Forza is frowned upon...which is why my first post isn't blue yet because they read the second post and didn't like me for it so they hit the red box on both...as I am sure they will this one....meh

That's been the problem for a lot of games. There was no way anyone could take their work on a PS2 title and make it work worth a damn on the PS3. Naughty Dog had to switch programming languages and development tools more than once to work on the PS3.

Nice. 2 million is great for a game that's not GT (why do people still buy GT games, btw? They haven't been that great since GT3...).
GTR and FM is where it's at for racing fans, no doubt. I hope GT5 brings that franchise back to AAA gold, though.

So GT4, GT5: Prologue, and GT PSP all of a sudden don't exist? Those were still GT releases released by Polyphony Digital at $40 or more.
Also, who the hell uses sales as their defense? I guess 50 Cent: Bulletproof was a better game than Psychonauts. Reviews be damned, only sales matter!
Dear lord. Has logic been thrown out the window? I'm bringing it back, then.

Let's kick the inevitable GT vs Forza flame fight off nice and clean.
I liked forza 1 when I played a friend's. I own Forza 2 and 3 and I have 2 racing wheels and spent a weekend nailing together some racing seat rigs... you could say I'm invested.
I loved GT 1 and 2 back in the day. I almost bought a PS1 just for GT1 but I wouldn't have been able to afford a wheel at the time and once you play with a wheel controllers make you sad, just a fact. I just got a PS3 recently and tried the new GT demo as soon as it was released and was really really unimpressed. The controls didn't feel very tight to me compared to Forza. And I was expecting the graphics to be amazing since that's what I keep hearing people rave about and I was completely underwhelmed. The textures were distractingly muddy... combined with floppy controls and I've lost interest.
So I've given up on GT and won't be going back. FLAME ON!

Don't discount it based off of that horrible demo. It was just a physics demo, from an ancient build. They never should have released it.

they've had prologue out for how long and they put out a demo that doesn't represent the actual game in graphics or game play? for a game like GT that has a HUGE and rabid fan base that will gobble up every morsel they even hint at? If so then they're stupid and I people that stupid aren't going to get 60 bucks out of me I'll wait for a used copy for $10. Or you're wrong, the game is like the demo and it's just sad compared for forza and I won't even bother with a used copy. Either way they lost a sale.

I was also very underwhelmed by the GT5 demo. And you know what? I wouldn't have been nearly as disappointed in the graphics if it wasnt hyped into oblivion.
I bought a Fanatec wheel for the Forza3 release and that game has me stunned. It's just so much fun to play!! It's funny because I got a copy of Froza2 with my 360 purchase back in the day, and I couldn't get into it at all.
I will still get GT5 when it drops (hopefully sooner than later) because it still has a lot going for it (night racing, weather, etc) making for a much more intensive sim engine. I will say that the GT5 demo has a ridiculously sweet implementation of force feedback. (very customizable too)
I reeeeeeeally doubt it will kick Forza's place just because Forza is just that much fun to drive. I wont get into debates about which sim is more brutally accurate, but I have a LOT more fun with Forza than I do with the GT5 demo (it IS only a demo, so things will change when the full version drops)
In the meantime, Forza just has so much to do! Between the livery editor, the multitudes of car upgrades, cat and mouse matches, tag/virus matches, and just the online Auction house/Storefront in general...this game will keep me going for a whiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiile

Exactly. Zelda and Peach keep sneaking away to have some "quality time", and Mario/Link always bust in on it, forcing one of them to flee while the other pretends to be happy to be "rescued" while secertly wondering how the hell he is still alive.
Erm...or so Ive heard.

Lots of love for the Forza 3 from me, love it with my MS FFB Wheel. Only thing that'd make my experience better with it is two more 40" TV's, two more Xbox 360's and 2 more copies of the game... 3 screen gameplay FTW. GT5 may get "3D"... but 3 screen is way more immersive, without the headaches after extended gameplay.

Actually Chris, that seemed more like a well-stated opinion than fanboyism. He didn't even bash GT5, just 3D support.
I mean, he even backed up his statement, 3d does give headaches and 3-screen play is plain awesome. Is GT5 going to support 3-screens?

yea I suppose you have a point, I read that after reading a post a ways up where dude said GT sucked after the 3rd one....so I just jumped to that automatically....
I for one would have simply thought that he could easily do the "3 screens" thing with GT5 as well and thats why I took it as a fanboy comment....as I seriously doubt many people will be play GT5 in 3D anyways....

FM3 is an excellent game, but you wouldn't know it if you went to forzamotorsport.net (the official FM website). That site is populated by a bunch of whiny SOB's who expect perfection and are disappointed if they don't get it. To put it in perspective, FM3 was in development for 2 years, while GT5 has been in development for over 5 years, so if that game isn't absolutely perfect, I WILL be disappointed. I'm glad to hear from people who think the game is as good as it really is.

I played the first Forza on the Xbox for a short while and generally liked it. However, the game's heavy simulation stance has kept me away from all other incarnations. I like the game's graphics, but having to turn on brake-assist and the line feature just to have fun at the game is a pimp-slap to my gaming ego.
