What is up with Joystiq and downvoting?

I completely agree with you, they need to get on SOCOM 4!

Its Sony's TRUE multiplayer game ... its also why I bought a PS3 only to be stuck with Confrontation :(

Just out of curiosity, what would a new SOCOM game offer you that MAG wouldn't?

I see little reason for SOCOM to continue...other than perhaps PSP titles, but even those could branch off of MAG instead.

So basically it's the shooter equivalent of Little Big Planet? Sounds good. It'd be nice if more titles got extended support.

Yeah I'm looking forward to Zipper's patches and support.

My biggest request is that they release a few new maps for each mode/team. Some of the maps are starting to get a bit repetitive.

I think I'm going to pick this up soon. I've heard good things about it.

I've also started developing a huge Heavy Rain hard-on out of nowhere (It's doing damn well on Metacritic). Still need to also finish ME2 (I shoulda went through ME1 first).

And I must prepare for my meeting with the Gods in March.

It's a great game!

I'm not even that into FPS games, but this game, is hands down one of the best I've played. It's all about team work, so sometimes you'll get in a game where your squad leader has no mic and people are just running and gunning (this can be frustrating, which is why I always try and lead one myself,) but most of the time you'll get a group that knows what they're doing and it's a heck of a lot of fun.

I am really enjoying this game as well. The chain of command is pretty cool, and when you have a good squad or a good OIC it can really change the flow of the battle. In addition to balancing the teams, I hope the prioritize people with mics for leadership positions.

Now that I've ranked up a bit I have a class I can use when teamwork and command totally dissolves. Motion sensor and a sensor jammer and the first aid kit. I sneak behind enemy lines and set charges on whatever I can find. Sometimes I'll even go over to one of the other 3 fields of battle and see if I can't blow up the Anti-Air and help them along. This is all assuming that we're attacking SVER. They are so overpowered, that's usually when teamwork falls apart.

It always more fun when there's teamwork, though. If you concentrate most of your platoon on one position you can usually break through the enemy lines and sweep across their flank

My PSN ID is SpacePenguinBot and I'm playing as Valor if anyone has a good clan of mic-users going....

Loving MAG, me and my little brother play online everyday together, and I'm looking forward to any other stuff they can give me that has 256 players!

First game where there is never a shortage of support units. Probably because one revive is worth as much as 2 kills. I like that alot, makes teamwork more important. that and you get Murk'ed anytime you try to sneak around alone

As far as the SVER maps go. The only map I find frustrating at times is the Sabatoge Map where SVER defends. If you do not have your entire team cooperating, you aren't going to break their defence. For god sakes they can snipe you from your spawn point whilst being at A and defending it.

I think there are half as many Raven / Valor plays than SVER. At least it always seems that way..

Thing is, if you take down the uplinks at A and B, then destroying the datacenter at C is a cakewalk. Valor destroyed our datacenter with 15 seconds to spare. That was how closely fought it was.

Valor's actually got the most, followed by S.V.E.R., then Raven.

As far as the S.V.E.R. maps go, sure they're difficult but it seems like each faction has a map like that. The Acquisition Defense map for Raven has great sniping points for me overlooking enemy spawns. However, to blame this solely on the map is not fair to Zipper, it still takes a tremendous amount of skill, and some luck, to hit a moving target that far away.

Sorry if you think you can win 1 vs 128 matches. You obviously dont know how to play MAG.

The gimmick he is referring to is the 256 player matches. He is correct, this is a gimmick. A mediocre, at best, FPS game standing on the over-hyped 256 player matches.

Thank you zipper. My clan has been waiting for word on some of the balancing issues. Btw, if anyone is looking for a good clan to join we are always recruiting. We play just about every game that has online multiplayer on the PS3. Only catch is that we are an adult only clan so you have to be over 18 years old. If you want to know more about us then check out our website at http://aow.aowc.net

What confuses me, is how are we over-powered? I mean, they just say we are. But how? I mean, we use more teamwork than everyone except maybe Valor. Some of my friends joined Raven and tell me how awful they are and since I can normally beat them within 12 minutes, I can see that.

What they need to do, is balance out the heavy armor. It is a huge buzzkill to see an entire squad using heavy armor and light-machine guns. I mean, I've got an assault rifle and medium armor. No amount of headshots is going to save me from that.

Other than that, I'm in love with this game. I'll be playing this for a LONG time.

SVER being able to defuse bombs placed on the outside of the gate from the inside of the base needs to be fixed, too.

"What confuses me, is how are we over-powered? I mean, they just say we are. But how?"

Sabotage - There's a ton of little cracks that you guys can shoot through while defending A/B. You also have a lot of high ground around B to just shoot attackers from. There's a lot of open area to run through to even get to a ladder into A/B. Look at Valor, there is a good amount of cover around A/B. Look at Raven, from cover to the stairs in the front is about 10 feet.

Acquisition - This is an easy one, you have 2 groups of 4 bunkers right next to each other. If we get lucky to get one bunker down, the squad in the bunker next to them just has to run 20 feet to repair it while the turret covers them.

Domination - I rarely play this simply because defending on Raven's map is a frigging joke and I'm not going to deal with the SVER BS where they can disarm charges from the inside of the gates. Once that is changed, maybe it will be worth my time.

I think that there is only one or two gates that do that where as SVER has 8+.

@Kodros:
On SVER's Sabotage map, A and B were meant to be difficult but not impossible. Throw frag grenades into A and B before you rush it. With 4+ people each throwing 2 frag grenades, it's impossible for anyone to dodge all of the grenades. Once you've taken down A and B, C becomes a cakewalk. The way I see it is that A and B were meant to be as frustrating as possible to the opposition whereas C was meant to simplify the whole ordeal.

I've lost a game where the datacenter was blown up within 2 minutes of losing A and B, and that's because the opposing team had someone camping at C waiting for A and B to go down. Not that it's a cheap trick or anything, but it does rely on trusting your team to do their part.

Also, if you want to complain about Sabotage maps, .50 caliber sniper rifles being shot from Valor's C position straight into our spawn point. That's pretty ridiculous.

As for Acquisition maps, I don't even understand why anyone from the opposing would want to run themselves through the killing fields directly in front of the 4 bunkers. The crazy thing is that Raven is absolutely unstoppable with Acquisition. They've learned to flank our bunkers and that's usually how they win the game. Raven's Acquisition map is pretty frustrating since there's really nowhere to park the APC without getting it blown up by any one of the bunkers.

Raven's Domination map can be formidable if people play it right. There are a LOT of elevated positions from which to shoot from and frustrate the opposing force and the real issue, to me, is in securing and holding the high ground against the opposition.

Dunno, from the few games that I have played on it, once you lose the bunkers it's game over. It's not really the elevated positions that is the problem. It's just the layout of the map. Defending the letters is extremely tough because there's a ton of ways the enemy can get in there. Having open roofs don't help one bit either. The placement of the AA is so far from anything that going to fix it is an adventure by itself. Another thing is that once a letter is taken, we just get spawn camped.

@Kodros:
I've had several Domination games against Raven on their map where we were only able to get the bar halfway through. There was one game in particular where we barely dented the gauge. I don't know about the spawn camping thing since that happens to us on our own map.

Back to the Raven Domination map, in the games that I played against Raven where we lost, the one thing that was common to those games was an entire squad getting the anti-air and bunkers up at the same time. That effectively cut-off any fast reinforcements we could have and we had to trudge our way through the area being held off by machine gunners on high ground and the occasional .50 caliber sniper. There was one game in particular where we were not able to take out Raven's anti-air. That essentially forced us to run a great distance back to the frontlines, occasionally getting hit from behind as well.

Losing the bunkers is never game-over. Losing the anti-air, however, is what makes the situation extremely difficult. In that respect, losing the bunkers is an acceptable loss because of how self-contained and well-protected Raven's anti-air is. Raven's anti-air is the easiest to defend, seriously. I still haven't figured out how to deal with a full squad of Raven soldiers defending the anti-air from us because there's no way to snipe into the ship and the ship is spacious enough that people can dodge an entire barrage of grenades.

Im on Valor and I don't think SVER are as over powered as much as people think, their LMG seems to be a little too good but its their maps, I think SVER really succeeds with their front line defense but once you start destroying stuff behind their front line their lines easily break and you can easily charge in.

Unfortunately, this is very true. There are a lot of games that I've lost to Valor in Domination (SVER on defense) where small groups of commandos got through the front lines and blew up everything else but the bunkers and because of that, none of our engineers could fix anything without being killed off by the commandos.

I play as raven and every time i play domination its like SEVR is always defending. To me its the maps. Ravens you are going to have a hard time to spawn players from Apc. SEVR defensive positions are really hard to get by unless you sneak pass them, VALOR has a lot of obstacles in the way. It also seems that attacking on certain maps are hard to do because of the spawns in Demolition EX: i forget the name but the train yard valor map they spawn in side of C and that is very hard to get to when you are spammed by grenades. But that's my 2 cents.

You mean Valor's Sabotage map? Yeah, I've been sniped with a .50 cal sniper rifle by a sniper camping out at C from the spawn point. It's doable and damn is it annoying. I'm just glad that they only dedicate one or two snipers to that position to harass us because that's a completely legitimate tactic.

All I ask is that they fix the close quarters automatics and the lmgs. They need to take a page from Day of Defeat for the lmgs, make the recoil matter when you're not set up with the bipod. As for the CQ automatics, well, their bullets seem to be able to bend around corners.

There might be cheap aspects of some maps for various teams, but it's the teamwork that really changes things. SVER at night (EST) is really strong, we'll win most matches. SVER in the morning is heavily fragmented, probably due to language issues. I'll hear mic users speaking in UK accent-ed English, French and Japanese.
