Red Dead Redemption's many, many pre-order bonuses are now detailed on the game's official website, and we can't imagine anyone will be prepared for the barrage of options listed when you click that link. No less than eight different pre-order bonuses, split between ten different US and UK retailers have been dreamed up by marketing. In typical Rockstar fashion, the practice of "exclusive" bonus content has become excessive bonus content.
Among the options listed are the "Golden Guns Weapon Pack" (more "Fame" per kill), from Amazon, which also comes with a $10 Amazon gift card; the "War Horse," a steed that Rockstar claims can't be bested by any other horse in the game, only available from Best Buy and HMV; and the "Deadly Assassin Outfit" from UK retailer Game (and maybe GameStop, if the getup wins the vote -- uh-huh, there's a pre-order vote). So yeah, we're going with the Amazon option, too.

Amazon always wins with the $10 dollar credit. Always.

You could also just buy it from Amazon, buy it from gamestop (for the first day purchase), and do the old switcheroo.
You get the low price of amazon, the pre-order bonuses from gamestop, along with hostile glances from their employees when you return the amazon copy to them. =D

Wow, so it's more convenient for you to drive miles to some store than to open up your door and pick up a package?

Release date shipping is great if your UPS guy delivers in the morning.
Mine never comes around until 3-4 in the afternoon, and since Tuesday/Wednesday is my weekend.. I'd much rather just hop in the car and make the trip to Best Buy or Gamestop and get it at 10AM. It's probably different for people who have to work on Tuesday.
I'm always temped by the $10 credits at Amazon, though. Having $425 in Gamestop credit means I will probably just head there...

how do you have $425 credit? Did you rob gamestop and then sell it all back to them?

it didn't bother me too much, as I canceled my pre-order from them and yet somehow still got the code...if not for the Internet I would have had a hard time finding some of those....especially the ones up in the damn air...

Definitely release day shipping, ftw. Compared to three years ago when I made less money and still bought the same amount of games, I'm saving a ton by not driving out to the nearest retailer; same goes for shoes/hiking gear/etc. If Amazon sold groceries and hookers, I'd never leave the house.

I love Gamestop in Canada.
This game comes with a gaming guarantee. Since I already have credit there, I feel comfortable risking if I actually like the game. I probably would be much more on the fence, otherwise.
And from what I've seen from Gamestop Canada, you get a "red dead revolver" as a pre-order bonus. Supposedly an actual, physical Revolver... Of course, Gamestop employees have known to be, oh, WRONG... but still.

wow. reply fail. Never include anything that looks like an HTML tag in your post.
It doesn't work.
That said. Thanks Obvious, I'm quite fond of it. Met the artist at a comic convention once, he was... amazing. Spent better part of an hour or two just talking with him. Have an amazing HUGE penciled page of his that cost me a book at another table which he couldn't get to. Best memories of comics... ever.
That said, back on topic... I guess I should have explained what the guarantee is.
If you pre order a game that has the guarantee, you have 1 week from the date of release to decide if you want to keep it. If you choose not to, and return it within that week, you get the full price of the game back in store credit.
I'm doing it for Bioshock and now Red Dead.
They have it on God of War, but I won't have to take them up on that :)

Youd rather pay $10 extra and get a worse preorder bonus than wait a few hours for shipping? The cost of tax for a game isnt much less than release date shipping (they ship it overnight the day before release which guarantees youll get it on the release day, if you dont get it on release day theyll give you another $10). Not to mention you wouldnt be supporting a horrible company.
They also might still be doing the free month of Amazon Prime trial, which means free release date shipping. And then you can queue up all your other preorders with free release shipping before the trial runs out since once you add items to your cart the price doesnt change even if Prime expires.

Preorder bonuses? How about Rockstar show more media from the game first so that I might actually care enough to preorder first? Those few trailers released so far don't help enough.

I have high hopes for this game. The other western games so far haven't appealed to me as being very good, this seems like it may.
Best Buy's bonuses are usually a code that everyone can use rather than unique, but not always.
Amazon it is!

Are the guns just gold? They aren't stronger or more durable than other guns? Who gives a ____? The horse that is superior to all other horses or even whichever gamestop costume wins could be the way to go. For those of you who aren't aware the costume choices at gamestop give the following bonuses:
Savy Merchant: Buy guns and ammo from any merchant for half the cost.
Deadly Assassin: Regenerates 'Dead Eye Targetting' twice as fast.
Expert Hunter: Get double the animal skins from each animal you kiIl.
I guess the other way to look at it is those other bonuses are FAR more likely to be available as purchasable DLC in the future than the golden guns.

For Reward Zone members at Best Buy, there's also a 250 point bonus if you preorder. That's essentially a $5 Gift card.
