From what I've been hearing it seems like a choose your own adventure video game... Am I wrong in this analogy?

I hope not. The choose your own adventure books are probably the only reason I'm able to read joystiq today! Hahaha loved those books!

I'm in costa Rica for the next 3 months and I'm having a business associate fly down my preorder I can not wait... I'm recomending that anyone with a wife or girlfriend use this as a stepping stone to get them into gaming and familiar with the controler layout. When I told my wife about the concept about a year ago she got more excited then me. I even caught her up at 2am replaying the demo. plus it's like one giant training session. After this game I'll finaly be able to tell her to "push R1 to shoot" and not have her freak out "which button is R1". I can't wait to play this.

Demo? Really?

I was really afraid of them shitting this game up half way though like they did with Indigo Prophecy. Glad it turned out so well.

There was a demo for people that played the A.R.G a few days ago. It's public release is tomorrow if I'm not mistaken. It's a vertical slice though, and it's sounding like it doesn't really do the finished product justice (there was definitely some poor voice acting in the demo). If you can wait the ten more days till the game comes out, it is probably worth it (unless your mind isn't made up about whether or not you are buying it, and you need to play the demo to form an opinion)

If this review is anything to judge by, it is a shame that the game is almost surely going to flop hard when it comes to sales. A man can hope though.

I think i'm going to skip the demo so i can get the full experience right when the game comes out. I've seen enough to know that i'll enjoy this game immensely. For ME2 I embargoed all video content from myself so every in-game moment would be fresh and surprising.

He did say "contender". Contender, as in one of many other possible games competing for the spot. He never said it would be the GOTY, only that it might compete with other games for the spot (some of those other games may even release later on in the year!)

Tako, reading comprehension would take you a long way...

If ME2 has a serious shot at GotY and it came out in January, then Heavy Rain can also be a contender.

It is hilarious that people were saying Mass Effect 2 was GOTY (and rightfully so) and were attacked for it.

Heavy Rain will be interactive movie of the year that is for sure.

@Campion

People were calling a game well before it released, before any demo had released, and before any reviews had released.

People are calling this a "possible" "contender" for the spot, but never saying it's a shoo-in.

Both I'm sure are great games, but saying that a game that is over 1-2 months away is going to pretty much be the one and only GOTY does sound a little silly doesn't it?

Brad was just saying this may be a contender....

Don't you hate it when people try to be rational and others come in and twist your shit all around.

For me, the GOTY is being ripped apart by Heavy Rain and (hopefully this year's) The Last Guardian. Last year's GOTY winner was, I imagine, a difficult matter to solve for many game outlets; this year it will be even harder.

Dude, he said it's a contender - Every good game is a contender for GOTY - no matter when in the year it's released. You're just looking for a reason to jump on Brad's ass here. They nailed you on it. Take the lumps and walk away with some dignity.

No, it'll most likely be between Mass Effect 2, Red Dead Redemption, and LA Noire (is that coming out this year?), Last Guardian if it actually comes out this year.

Personally I think RDR will be the best one, but regardless Heavy Rain doesn't really stand a chance. It'll probably be good, I'll probably enjoy it (since it seems to be devoid of the dumb bullshit from the second half of Indigo Prophecy) but GOTY is a pipedream.

Sorry for that reality check but Joystiq posters are not known for living in reality.

Mr. Nelson, how long did it take you to finish? And I've been reading that many reviewers want to play it again after completion. Did you?

Hearing that it's 8 hours just spiked my interest in this game. I don't know if I'd be interested in a 20 hour game of this nature but 8 hours sounds like the perfect enough length for it to be engaging and intimate but not drawn out or overstaying its welcome.

Since theres like 3000 different ways you can finish it (as every single choice effects the ending), im glad its kinda short at 8 hours.

No review embargo? Or is this another post that will be replaced with "Coming Soon" in a few minutes.

From the review, this sounds like everything I wanted from the game. Day one purchase for me.

I ask for scheduling purposes, not for ascertaining a cost value: Roughly how much time do you think a playthrough takes, assuming you are enjoying the game and now powering through it?

You're right, Solace! Reviews look like they are amazing, with only a couple of outliers bringing the average down hard.

Looks like if you don't hate the game, you absolutely love it. I think I'm going to end up in the latter group.

Ha, the metacritic score is half brought down by Destructoid, who gave the game a 70. The review was done by a Jim Sterling, who was completely biased against the game before it even came out. I'm surprised that he even gave it a score as high as 70. Maybe he liked it a bit more than he cared to admit?

This is the article that was publish before the review. He really does not agree with the tone of the game, or how it is presented.

Branching dialogue will never be the same again!

The way that inner thoughts are displayed by pressing certain buttons, it makes even games that have been released this year look like their system of dialogue is inept.

Even the detective's scanning of clues is so deep and enthralling. I really love this game! It's a GOTY contender already.
