"We couldn't be more thrilled to hear that Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is already in the hands of almost 2½ million gamers, and it hasn't even shipped yet." That statement from Patrick Bach, Senior Producer on EA and DICE's eagerly awaited shooter, is doubly impressive when you realize that he's not talking about the PC version -- he's talking about the demo that was recently shared with Xbox Live and PlayStation Network users.
Having reached over two million downloads within a span of five days, the Bad Company 2 teaser is "on pace to become the fastest downloaded demo in EA history," at least according to the Big Company behind it. With the PC beta netting "hundreds of thousands" of sign-ups too, it seems the overt confidence isn't misplaced. But come March 2nd, will all those downloads translate to an impressive, post-Modern impact?
If there's one thing uglier than the console wars, it's the console war game ... wars.

I said it before, and I'll say it again: I have been anticipating this game since the first trailer was shown, and the demo has delivered on my excitement in every way possible. I cannot wait until this comes out.
March 2nd is almost here. Are you all ready? I know I am.

I just played the demo. To say it retroactively made me hate MW2 would be disingenuous. It was just a different flavor.
The graphics were nearly identical to MW2 (at least on the PS3).

Personally, I hope it blows MW out of the water. I just enjoy Bad Company more. Personal preference more than anything.

I pre-ordered the PC version, so I have access to the beta (more weapons and gear to unlock than the demo). It's a lot of fun, but for the last week I've only been playing MAG. It does a much better job of feeling like a huge sprawling... battlefield. None of my friends have PS3s, so I will probably come back to BC2 when it's finally released, but for now, MAG has won me over.

Same here! I've already purchased the PC version. March can't come soon enough!
This along with GoW3, FFXIII and some other thing I'm forgetting, will make that month AWESOME!
Although I wish the level cap was higher, the PS3 Beta I was in had no cap(and the best map), the new demos only go to level 2/50, and the PC beta only up to 11/50.

You should give the demo a shot. I hated the multiplayer in the first bad company but this demo is amazing. Especially when you have actual teammates you can talk to. Though it is slower paced game. Just be sure to be aware of you surrounding and have patience.

That's another thing, they've worked on the hit detection and splash damage from tank shells.

they have made some serious improvements to the engine. it still runs at 30fps, but it's the smoothes 30fps shooter I have ever played.

I'd try the demo out (like these other guys have said). And keep in mind that it's only a demo. If the recently shown single-player gameplay looks anything like the multiplayer, this game is going to be even better than what is shown in the demo.

I thought the PS3 BETA was far better than the demo. That graphics are nice, but the controls and gun fire and the aim are just extremely awkward. Worse then the beta.

I want BC2, really I do, but I feel like all of the Battlefield fanboys that are suddenly coming out of the woodwork united in their hatred of Modern Warfare 2 are ruining it for me. Why does everything have to be a competition?

Because it's usually an "us or them" mentality with gamers. They want to feel like their allegiance is the best, that their purchase was superior. Also, BF is like the more attractive cousin of MW: they're very similar in many regards.
Anyways, Bad Company 2 is great. I played its demo for almost three hours straight. One map, one game mode and a couple of weapons. Wow, do want.

when there are two or more things as similar as MW2 and BC2 people will always attempt to identify one the best. that is just human nature. everything is compared to everything that you could logically compare it to.
i have played the BC2 beta for couple hours now and i can't wait for the full release. it feels just like BF2142 which is awesome. but that also means i suck pretty hard at it. trying to get my KDR up to .5 right now

Don't worry, man. You'll get used to it. This is actually the first demo (and second game) I've ever played online and though I still kinda suck, I'm getting better the more that I play it. I tried MW2 and sort of liked it, but nothing beats blowing up a guy on an ATV w/ a well-placed rocket. Love playing as an engineer!

I'm a BF:BC supporter, but I used to love it and the MW series equally. Something about MW2 just didn't click with me, and I felt let down. The Battlefield series plays more to my strengths, and I can tell from the first one and from the demo that it's gonna be everything I want and expect. In my opinion the MW series has gone down, while the BF series is gaining steam.

I tried the demo...it was okay...but not as fast paced as I thought. Vehicle control is cumbersome and not as intuative as I thought it would be.
I did like being able to destroy the buildings and the explosions are done very well.....
Looking forward to Medal of Honor in the fall instead.....

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Nobody's saying that MW2 was award-winning either. But insinuating that MW's story sucks in comparison to Battlefield's is like saying that Face/Off had a much better narrative than Con Air.

Since MW2 is so faced paced and run-and-gun, I thought the Michael Bay action movie storyline suited it perfectly, kept my blood pumping. Plus, it's not that often that much effort is placed on the storyline of an FPS so I guess my standards aren't that high.

I know its each to their own ; but I found the multiplayer demo to be quite slow paced ; probably a much needed rest from the chaos that is MW2.
But, I think this one will probably be a rent first, see if I start to enjoy the slower paced onlineness (not a word I know)... then maybe a purchase if I get into it.
I do like the destructability though, blowing holes in walls to shoot the enemies through etc ; or destroying a wall so the rubble can be used for cover.

Wait until the other maps are introduced. Not all of them are going to be large battlefields like in the demo. There will probably be some more close-quarters, urban maps as well. Once you play the other maps, then you'll be able to see which game you prefer.

Does anyone have an idea as to the campaign for this one, and if it would be necessary to play the first BC to understand the story or if it's a continuation of the first game?

This is a slower paced game than cod. Patience is a virtue. Don't rush in, try to stick with your squad and pay attention to your surroundings. You'll live a lot longer and have more fun that way.

I'm a HUGE fan of the original Bad Company, and I loved 1943 on XBLA, but the demo for BC2, playing for a couple of hours on the day it was released, left me initially unimpressed. It lacked some polish for a game that is close to release. There was a lot of stuttering during the games I played. I would walk, disappear, and then walk over the same place again. It happened enough to be an annoyance. And it occurred in multiple games. Not I'm not unused to there being problems with Battlefield games (usually after release), but I'm kind of getting tired that they continue to have problems with multiplayer even after releasing countless interations of the game.
That being said, when it did work, it pretty much played like other Battlefield games before it.
I dunno, I guess I had higher hopes for BC2.

I find it difficult to compare it to MW2 due to how differently each game is played. MW2 is a very run-and-gun fast paced shooter where BC2 has a slower more tactical squad based gameplay. Personally I like them both but it depends on what's your flavor. Any Battlefield series fan should enjoy BC2 based on my experiences in the demo.

I actually like the "slower" pace of the combat, even the knife kills are slower.
I just wish the frame rate was Modern Warfare smooth though. I'll be getting off MW2 when BC2 comes out. Guess that's like going from crack to cigarettes.

It's hard to compare MW2 to BC2.
if you try to carry MW tactics to BC, there will be a team full of lone wolves running around and that's no good.
I enjoy playing and winning as a team over doing that individually.

Exactly. It just feels more real. Who knew that carrying 50 pounds of equipment would stop you from running like Superman, and stabbing someone with a knife would actually make it feel like it got stuck somewhere; and in battle, you actually have to work together as a team instead of depending on one person to kill everyone else.
Will probaby trade in MW2 for this come March 2nd.

To be fair, I enjoyed the story in MW2. But it is a totally different pacing than the BC1 story had. And both games have their strong points, MW2 is still faster than Bad Company (1&2) and hits that sweet spot in my brain when I need a fix. I really enjoy laying a beatdown on people with the riot shield. I guess my point was that I got more of a continuous story from BC, in part because I wasn't jumping all around to different people. Want another example that maybe is better? MW2 is like "The Longest Day" vs Bad Company "Saving Private Ryan". Both are great movies about the same topic, they just follow different tack.
