Just to prove we're willing to go the extra mile for you here at Joystiq, we taught ourselves Norwegian just to bring you the latest from David Cage's interview with Norwegian publication Dagbladet. Sadly, Mr. Cage's answers were not in Norwegian, meaning we wasted $8,000 and what our instructor Jokkum Frantzberg called "a very good ear for Norwegian." The entire project was not in vain, though, as we managed to find this quote from Cage regarding his upcoming Heavy Rain.
"If you are talking about Motion Control, this is something we initially considered for Heavy Rain. The very first version of the game design was based on motion control, but it was not feasible at the time," he said. Dagbladet later helped us confirm via one of Cage's reps that he had hoped to design the game for the PlayStation Motion Controller originally, but felt the tech simply wasn't far enough along.
Cage went on to add, "I have a lot of interest in Sony's motion device and there is a good chance that we announce something about it in the coming weeks." We don't know what he'll announce, but we certainly hope that it'll be in Norwegian.

I dunno if it really would have added anything, I guess it could be used for operating things outside of the action scenes.

I am interested in seeing what they announce in the coming weeks(GDC) but I can only imagine that they would have had us using the Wandy Globes for things like fights , shooting, flashlights, etc...

I cant wait for the next gen of consoles when motion controls (and IR for Nintendo) are the only option.

See the thing is the Wii remote by itself + a bunch of shovelware crap led alot of gamers this gen to believe motion controls are the devil. But motion plus and the Playstation Wand both prove there was still ALOT of hope out there for motion gaming, and it will only get better next gen.

Am I the only one who thinks that last sentence is some of Joystiq's finest work? Monty Python tribute, or something.

There is motion control in the game as it is now.
From the demo, it looks like they use it really well also. Shaking the controller to rattle pills, or shaking the controller to fight off the attacker.

The majority of 'hardcore' gamers i know, want to move as little as possible.

After playing the demo it seems like this game would have worked well with the Arc. You do so many actions of sliding the analog stick around in a semi-circle and stuff like that to mimic your character doing that motion with his hands, if you could actually do it with your hands that would have been cool. Maybe for the sequel...
And, I never thought I would hear myself say this (and please don't vote me down), but this game would have been *PERFECT* for Natal.

"Motion gaming is here to stay guys."
Will people buy another nintendo console with motion controls when they barely buy games for the Wii? Will 360 and PS3 gamers buy into the Motion controls?
I think that statement you made really remains to be seen. Especially when we really haven't been shown anything too awesome for Natal or Arc.

That is irrelevant.
The amount of $$$ alone going into the R&D of those two devices will guarantee, pass or fail amongst audience, that they stay to the forefront of the everything Xbox 720 and PS4.

I doubt it, I think when all the console companies have their version, the uniqueness will be gone and desire for it will wear off.

Gamereactor interviewed Cage while he was in Oslo as well, and asked him about the Arc (raw translation):
New control-methods like Natal and Sony's new motion controller change the way we play games. To me, it seems like Heavy Rain would fit perfectly to these new controllers. Have you contemplated making a new version of Heavy Rain for Sony's motion controller?
- Actually, the very first concept for Heavy Rain 4 years ago, was based on using a motion controller. The plan was to use a Dual Shock-controller that were to be held vertically with an extra gadget attached that the Eyetoy-camera could track. We designed the whole game around this controller, but Sony felt it wasn't commercially possible to launch hardware like that at the time, so we had to design the game anew for the Dual Shock. But all the basic ideas about implementing the movements the characters do in the game as motions the player does is kept in place. Now the Playstation motion controller is a fact, And we find it very interesting. we're now contemplating different options for using it in the near future.

I've only had the demo since last night, but already I'm impressed how they use the controls. I'm not sure how the motion controller might have improved on it.
I think they should skip the whole motion control thing and go straight to working on VR immersion. Just make sure you stop playing when it's dinner time, or Kryten might come and blow up your picnic guests with a tank!

Well, couldn't they just implement it later in the fall/winter of this year when PMC launches?
Because that seems to be what Sony's doing with alot of their older games instead of re-releasing it. Which is a great idea.

That would be sick if they patched in the motion controls in the future.

With Heavy Rain finally going out I am certain the announcement will be support for Sony's Arc later this year. A patch by the time of the motion controller's release will do the trick. Based on all the reviews I've read of the game the Sixaxis implementation is perfect, and this could only be enhanced by Arc. The interesting question is: will it be a single Arc stcik implementation or a dual one?
