Early copies of Darksiders contained an insert (see above) that quite explicitly asked buyers to not to throw it away -- that's what "do not discard" means. Today it was revealed that the code will net the bearer a free copy of Red Faction Guerrilla for PS3 or Xbox 360. The code will also grant them "a digital Hellbook disc featuring Darksiders art, videos, and other awesome stuff." Yeah, that's great but let's get back to that whole "free game" thing.
The offer is only available in the US and ends March 7, 2010. We've got a call in to THQ about whether recent Darksiders printings still have the card. Of course there's a catch: there's a $5 shipping charge; however, we can guarantee (because it was all over our "Best of the Rest" for 2009) that $5 is an incredibly small price to pay for hours of joyous Martian destruction.

Sadly only the first run of the game came with the code. Even then it was sporadic ... I doubt you can still find one but more power to you.

I personally love the game. It's not for everyone though. It's really polished, has a great story and mythology and some of the best voice acting this generation. It's like God of War, Zelda and Prototype (in a good way) all had a baby and Darksiders was its name. It's a puzzle fest though, with some genuinely hard puzzles and the gameplay itself is pretty deep and fun with some nice upgrading. It's my favorite game so far this year, even better than MAG, I think.

So true about the voice acting! It totally made the whole experience engrossing.

LOVED this game! If you haven't played it yet, you owe yourself, at the very least, a rental.

Sweet. I already have Red Faction Guerilla but I'll still pony up the dough and give it away to my brother.

Wow. What an excellent idea. My brother has spent quite a bit of time on Darksiders on the Ps3. Will someone please help me convince him to buy a HDMI cable! 47inches of full-hd high-end LG LCD and he's running it in 480i via standard composite cable. Even the Wii is running 480p! Still plays well, just looks aweful.

Yeah, those $100 HDMI cables are a scam. It's a cable for a digital signal, there's no need to pay massive amounts of money for what is basically copper wire, insulation, and some connectors. You don't need crazy shielding for a digital signal; it's not really susceptible to analog noise. :P

yea dude hit Monoprice.com. i bought my HDMI for like $3. hell the shipping was more than the damn cable was. no one deserves to play a PS3 in 480i when he has all the equipment for full HD except a sub $5 cable. buy it for him and call it an early birthday/christmas gift.
look, here is a link for one that has everything you need:

Like the other commenters above me have already stated, they're super cheap online. And believe me, it makes a noticeable difference.

As a previous Electronics Salesman at a major retailer, this breaks my heart, lol. It's true that the high-priced HDMI cords are very unnecessary. Digital does not require the upkeep of analog; if the signal transfers successfully then it's all good. If you can find one for a buck, hop on it! I never checked Amazon myself for such utilities but now I think I'll have to!

I already redeemed my code, not that I would do this, but I wonder if gamers are going check display copies of Darksiders at Gamestop and copy down the code if it's in the box. I think someone on Cheapassgamer.com said something about this

Lol... I did that today when I went to pre-order Heavy Rain. Heh... I heard some people go and do the same for the Nintenco Club codes, and even instruction manuals for the games.

amazing, Red faction guerilla is an easily forgotten title...but the destruction elements were amazing. It's too bad though that red faction as a franchise is all over the place gameplay wise. Hopefully volition(sp) brings those destructible environments to the next saints row...those games are lame as hell but incredibly fun.

Already got mine on the way. It said that there was an art disc as well, but I didn't see mention of it in the shipping contents. The PDF file you can download after you complete the order is like a little mini poster, so if I don't get the art disc at least I have a little something to print out and hang on my wall.

I couldn't get the actual community page to load on the Darksiders forums. Ordered the game, $5 bones is a good deal!

The only reason for this kind of delayed action on the part of THQ is to give Darksiders artificial 'legs'. Incredibly sketchy, in my opinion. They said they wouldn't do any DLC, but it's apparent they didn't want people to forget about Darksiders.
It's settled. When I create a game, I'll include a similar card that will say, "Play my game every day until 2020 (using this card to register) and win a million bucks!" Instant sales.

So wait, let me get this straight. They actually decide to reward the people that bought the game early with a free game and some bonus behind the scenes stuff and you're complaining? Really? Maybe they needed time to work out the details of the promotion, hell, maybe they needed to print the art discs. Who knows?
Reply
Posted: Feb 12th 2010 11:04PM ch3burashka said
@Reaver: You misunderstand me; I'm not against the reward - I'm wary of the way it's being distributed. Not everyone got it, and those who did didn't know what it was. Granted, no one bought Darksiders for the unknown code, but it's still a very strange way of promoting/bringing attention to a game which doesn't have legs by itself.

THQ has really been pushing Red Faction: Guerrilla lately. This is good, since it was a lot of fun and didn't get the attention it deserved when it came out last summer.
Hopefully all this additional attention will help the sequel to do better than the original.
