Because hitting a three-pointer from the arc is kinda like casting a Bahamut summon spell, Final Fantasy XIII will be an official sponsor of the NBA All-Star Celebrity game -- which takes place Friday, Feb. 12 at 7PM EST. In addition, there will be a special section where attendees can sample the game during NBA Jam Session, a weekend-long event at the Dallas Convention Center from February 11 - 13.
It's a bold move, to say the least. You're marketing your niche genre game with a huge emphasis on story and character development to a bunch of sports fans. Seriously, it's a good idea, Square Enix. No, we're not being sarcastic. Sarcasm is impossible on the internet.
[Update: Specified sponsorship of the NBA celebrity game, not the entire session.]

It's the celebrity All-Star Game they're sponsoring, not the All-Star Game itself.

There was a basketball game on TNT yesterday and one of the announcers was reading off of some paper to advertise the All-Star game and their sponsors. He said Final Fantasy 8... he read XIII as 8... There was no on-screen visual to go with it either so anyone watching at home who wasn't aware of what iteration the series was up to would have no idea. Although I guess most of those people wouldn't buy it anyway.
