Coinciding with the info avalanche at X10, Bungie has released a new Halo: Reachvideo documentary (aka "ViDoc"). There's something for every Halo fan here: Spartan customization, new weapons, huge maps, new music, and plenty of human-on-alien warfare. A few things to look out for include a grenade launcher, stealth kills and a Spartan actually sprinting. You'll even get an un-textured peek at the huge battles Bungie demonstrated during X10. A full squad of marines, Spartans and 30 Covenant duking it out all at once? Yes, please.
Once you pick the video apart -- and we know you will -- be sure to post your OMG megaton discoveries in the comments. Once you're done doing that, go download the ViDoc from the Xbox Live Markeplace and watch it in HD.
It appeared on the blog underneith a "55 minutes ago" story for me, plus Im from Ireland, whatever timezone your on about doesn't relate to me.
Anyway, this game is looking even more fantastic with every sliver of new info. I find it very comforting to know that Bungie realises the huge superiority that Halo:CE had as a single player experience over all the others.
However I do wish "Sprint" wasnt a perk and just became standard for all players.
What amazes me t00l is that you were able to watch a 7+ minute video and post in when the video wasn't even out that long... or maybe you just posted without watching the video?
Anyway, onto HALOz!
1) I'm amazed at the tech these guys are pushing out. They were sure they were pushing the 360 to its limits with Halo 3 and now look at what they accomplished.
2) Bungie makes great games because they are passionate and that is very clear in their videos and games. I watch the vid docs for Epic Games and you really can just tell there is a clear professional divide between the two company's. Epic Games clearly have some technical wizards but overall, they just lack the passion Bungie as an organization seems to have.
3) Marty O'donnell's music is just as much Halo as Master Chief is. As soon as they played the music when Marty spoke I instantly felt this was Halo and could not be mistaken for anything else. He is an integral part of the Halo franchise, no doubt about it.
4) I hope Bungie manages to pull it off; there was ONE lone spartan who managed to save the universe. I'm really curious (never read the books) what's going to take place that wipes out MANY spartans (don't ruin it please, I'm waiting for the game to explain it).
5) I've completely hijacked t00l's post because the first comment on this article shouldn't be his lame ass remark, "No one cares!?"
"An hour later and no comments?" was summed up in three words, "No one cares!?"
What t00l felt about the game or franchise was never put into question by my remark, re-read it.
The POINT I was making was that I'd rather start seeing meaningful comments instead of knee jerk reactions. I don't think it's too much to ask gamers to think, we constantly push boxes to solve puzzles, don't we?
I'm not gonna lie, I've been avoiding halo reach information because as much as I loved playing Halo 3 It wasn't as much of an impressive leap for me presentation and gameplay wise compared to Halo 1 to Halo 2 (especially since they were on the same console). After watching this video I can honestly say I'm kind of in awe of what they have done with the game visually. Does anyone know if the Reach Beta was exclusive to ODST when it first came out or can you still get a copy of ODST and get into the Beta when it's out?
Either way here's to hoping that these new additions and changes don't take too much away from the core gameplay.
Can someone please describe what the post means when it speaks of "spartan customization, stealth kills and sprinting." I'm at work and can't really watch the video. Is the customization just aesthetic? How are the stealth kills and sprinting incorporated into the game?
Sprinting is an armor ability that can be used over and over for a short period of time (after a short recharge). Stealth kills are a fancy melee from behind done by holding down the melee button. Armor customization is a bit unknown -- not sure if it is just talking about how the Spartan characters look different, if you can customize the look of your campaign character, or if you customize the look of your multiplayer character.
Customization: They show a wider array of attachments to your character than in Halo 3, such as shoulder pads, grenade belts, and so on
Stealth Kills: Think Assassin's creed. You get close enough to an Elite and when you hit the melee button, you jump on his back and stab him with a combat knife. pretty cool, if you ask me
Sprinting: Pretty much what you've seen in other recent shooters, although its a perk, not a feature. You have to choose this perk over things such as shields or power drain. essentially this perk feature appears to replace/enhance the equipment feature from halo 3
Wow, now that was impressive. They nay-sayers will have to really pull something out of their butts if they are going to speak negatively about this game...
I agree, Since this is (allegedly) Bungie's last go around with Halo, I expect Microsoft to publicize the crap out of this game, as it should be. Frankly, I'm surprised the VGA trailer wasn't played at the Superbowl. Seems like a missed opportunity to me.
THIS IS AN EPIC YEAR IN GAMING HISTORY! :) Halo Reach! Fable 3, Fallout New Vegas, lots of amazing stuff thats out or coming out! also i want the soundtrack already! lol.
Greatness awaits us this Fall. Damn, I haven't been this excited for a Halo game since 2 (all subsequent Bungie-made Halos fill out the next two spots of my most anticipated games of all time list). But THAT hype train was legendary. Reach is slowly building up steam, drawing popular formulas from other FPSes to add to their already addictive gameplay to make--well--a console gamer's FPS dream.
Personally, it looks like the campaign will be a lot better (I dont really like the MC much), but the multiplayer and co-op are truly where Halo's strengths lie.
Halo ODST is going to get another huge sales surge come the BETA, so I wouldnt be totalling up its sales data just yet.
I know people who have traded it in, that will end up buying it again just to get in on the BETA. People downplayed the BETA key as a selling point for ODST but if it worked for Crackdown it'll most definetly work here.
Microsofts marketing machine isnt just trying to sell Halo Reach at this point, its dropping a pheonix down on ODST and giving it a second leash of life as well.
It does look like the campaign will be stronger. Multiplayer is awesome but I really enjoy playing shooter campaigns w/ a friend in coop mode so I hope that's the case. Overall, it looks like they are really pushing on all fronts on Reach. Very excited to see what the outcome will be :)
But which one is more rewarding? I might have to whore myself to 60 fat chicks for a dollar each or 10 really fat chick for 6 dollars each. I still don't know yet.
Looks like the reboot the Halo series needs. I'm glad they're actually putting forth some effort into making the game capable of holding it's own visually this generation.
This mother (if marketed right, which we know it will be) will probably shatter MW2's record. Xbox 360 consoles will be (and should be) flying off the shelf for this one. Cant wait!!!
