It's not a game. Trinity Soul is an anime series. As for male or female...well he's male but it's not quite that simple...

Various reasons. The higher cost of anime DVDs, the readily available subtitled downloads, the fact that only the most "mainstream" anime turn a profit, etc...

I also wonder why, has the growth of its popularity in the West slowed down from the 90s and last decade?

I'm sure that piracy of anime is high here but how does it compare to Japan? I bet those otakus there love to purchase the legit products, even the expensive collector's editions.

And I wouldn't consider it piracy considering that majority of the good stuff simply isn't and probably won't ever be available here. Well, I suppose you could still say it's *piracy*, but they'd never be losing any money from it, so what does it matter?

If they'd release official subtitled version straight from Japan, that would be just fine.

Well Hopefully it goes well because there are two things I love in this world ..... NIS and Anime.

Persona should be interesting and hopefully they get their hands on some other interesting series. I just hope they stick to series that know when to wrap up a story, there is no anime I Hate more than a series that has a gajillion eppisodes and takes like twelve eppisodes to conclude a fight that doesn't accomplish anything ..... DBZ I'm looking at you.

And then you have stuff that is just too short for its own good =P

Hmm I wonder if this is such a good idea. I watched the first ep of Trinity Soul a while back and it didn't seem like anything I'd want to watch more of (case in point: I didn't watch any more of it). Of course, this was before I knew anything about the Persona games, and stranger anime has sold alright in NA I guess

Coming from soneone who considers Persona 3 & 4 among the greatest RPG's of all time, you can save your money because Trinity Soul is a seriously dissapointing cash-in on the franchise.

It was terrible. Buy Toradora instead if you just want to support NIS, that's an above average show at the least.

Despite lacking story, it has one of the best artwork I have seen in animu.

The art is along the veins of the Persona franchise, so yeah it's somewhat stylised compared to traditional anime. I wouldn't call it exceptional, though.

Great....

I was going to download it; now it's illegal, and I'll have to wait for them to get through dubbing it.

Couldn't they have picked up the Infinity series and gotten those localized over here? Instead, I'm relying on about a page of script translated every week or so for the past 3 years in order to enjoy Remember 11. Not that I'm complaining about the fine people working to translate it on-the-free.

There's still no translation of Never7 or 12Riven that I'm aware of, and whatever the next story they're working on will be.

Well, there is good reason for the paucity of localization companies. The US anime industry is in a self-feeding downward spiral. Funimation and VIZ especially charge outrageous prices for their DVDs, which drives away potentially "casual" anime buyers, and drives the "core" anime fans to the free, and generally good-quality, fansubs that abound virtually everywhere. The lack of business only forces them to drive their prices up, sending more people away to the fansubs

That and the fact that none of the US cable networks seem to care about anime anymore really leads to a bad condition.

Also: I'm almost done with Welcome to the NHK right now, and it's making me very depressed :(

WTTNHK was pretty good, I got it on DVD (I only purchase series that I REALLY think will interest me). It starts off strong, then kind of loses its way in the middle. It gets good again in the last three or four episodes, though I felt that it never quite lived up to the promise of the first two or three.

Don't forget that the Japanese companies are much more unwilling to lower their prices and allow the US companies to have more freedom in where the content goes (such as online streaming sites such as Hulu and Crunchyroll).

Trinity Soul's main problem is "Eva syndrome". It has a complicated story that doesn't have enough exposition to make it totally coherent and it isn't given enough time to resolve properly.

Will you like it?

If you're an anime fanatic, the kind of person that downloads stuff within days of it being translated, you'll probably like it if you like similarly styled series. For example, if you're following Durarara now (episode 6 available, go go go!), check out Trinity Soul.

If you're a Persona fan, whether you like it will depend on how much of a fan you are. If you like the concept of the Persona stories, you'll probably like Trinity Soul. If you like the quality of the stories, whether or not you like it will depend on how well you can tolerate the holes.

And if you bothered to even click on this story, you should at least rent it or borrow it from a friend to see what you think.

Don't get excited Persona 3 & 4 fans: despite having the word Persona in the title, this anime contributes nothing to the world that these 2 games established. It's also extremely boring.

It is somewhat encouraging to know that a new company has the 'nads to try and break into the deeply troubled anime industry. The fact that they also have their hand in games might put them in an especially strong position, since ideally they could recoup their losses in that area if things get off to a slow start here. (though, correct me if I'm wrong, but NIS games - aside from maybe Disgaea - aren't exactly massive sellers, are they?)

By the way, to whoever says that "most of the best stuff" isn't available overseas, I call massive bullshit. Almost all of the best anime to come out in the last 15 years have eventually been licensed and released internationally. While a lot of gems from before the mid-90s have never been released overseas (Angel's Egg and Space Runaway Ideon spring to mind), the only stuff nowadays that doesn't get licensed are incredibly niche productions or things like all the hyper-moe garbage for which there is little appeal to all but the most hardcore otaku, who will inevitably pirate it anyways.

I have one question, though: Will these anime releases be given dubs, like NIS games, or will they be released sub-only?

Toradora! Woo! Perhaps IF they bring Absolute Hero Modding Project stateside, it will include some of the anime characters in it (such as Taiga from Toradora).

I am glad to see this, I just hope it proves to be profitable for NIS. Love the company and it's games, and was sad to see how poorly they have been doing financially.

I surprised Toradora was on the shelf for so long. It's easily one of the best highschool romances in recent memory. I'm glad Nis got their hands on it. Their games may not be blockbusters, but as a company I love their stuff. Spend a few bucks extra and get a ton of worthwhile extras in their little collections, unlike crap that tends to be included in many other special editions. The fact that they'll be doing the same with their anime may actually make me pay for anime again.

Pandora Hearts was real good, but I'm a fan of the Japanese taking a classic story or theme and turning it on its head as they've done with The Count of Monte Cristo (Gankutsuou), Romeo and Juliette, and Alice In Wonderland (Pandora Hearts).

And whoever says that all the great anime comes here already, that's total bullshit. The stuff that does end up here gets terrible dubbing, sometimes without the original Japanese and subs, and takes forever to be released. Anything aired on TV? Horrible dubbing. There are only a handful of series out there where the English dub matches the Japanese in quality. It blows my mind that the English VAs for Kare Kano actually got paid instead of beaten.

Hmm, I wish NISA the absolute best in entering an even more niche market. I'm a huge anime fan myself and those first four series they mentioned do not interest me but if they do release something I like I will support it and buy a copy. And please people if you don't wanna see forms of entertainment you love die then BUY a copy of it and don't pirate it.

"leaving only Funimation, Bandai and VIZ Media to represent the entirety of the US anime market"

I just did some Wikipedia-ing and learned that ADV is still around, though not in a form called "ADV." The Neo-ADV is accompanied as well by long-time distributors Media Blasters, Right Stuf, and AnimEigo. Oh, my goddess, you're still here! Heck, even Urban Vision is still around, to my surprise. The main distributors from way back who are gone now are Central Park Media (*sigh* I had a soft spot for them) and Pioneer/Geneon (Existence Muyo!). You could count Streamline/US Renditions, but that's oooold news. Welcome to the party, NISA.

In other words, ADV is now a pale, shambling husk of its former self. So it's as good as dead. Media Blasters, Right Stuf, and AnimEigo are very minor distributors who, like Neo-ADV, rarely even have the budget to dub most of their shows. And of course, Manga Entertainment these days mostly only releases movies based on EA games or collaborations with Bandai. So Funimation, Bandai and Viz are really the only distributors on the market right now that MATTER. Not that I think NIS will reach the same scale as any of them, but it's nice to have a new player in a market that people these days are mostly trying to get out of.

To be specific, NeoADV is known as Section23. That said, I am glad to see a new anime distributor enter the market. Hopefully, if these four titles do well, they will see reprints later, instead of having a situation where we have an intial print run and if you don't get it then, you're screwed.
