You may have started to suspect this when it didn't release last year, but it seems that an Xbox 360 version of puzzle/action/platformer Trine is all but dead. Writing on the company's forums, Frozenbyte's Joel Kinnunen said "It's out of our hands but most likely will not happen. Sorry. (We probably won't comment on this any further.)"
We got a very similar statement from Atlus which told us it's out of the company's hands and probably isn't happening. So if it's out of Atlus' hands and out of Frozenbyte's hands, it would seem the only remaining mitts belong to Microsoft. To be fair though, none of the companies involved would even confirm it was coming, despite the fact it had once been announced by Atlus.
We've asked Microsoft for some more clarification, but don't be surprised if we never get the full story. The important thing to note here is that if you want to play Trine, it's almost certainly going to require a PC or PS3.
[Thanks, Booger]

Gotta go PC for this one, the mouse is far and away the best control option for this game.

I found it easy and fluid to control with the PS3 pad

Had no problems here on the PS3. Even snagged the "Better than the developers" trophy fairly easily. Drawing boxes with the Wizard is obviously slower, but the Thief and Knight work great with controllers and they're what you'll be using during most of the frantic action.

Yeah, with a PC you get the option of using a controller or mouse. I generally preferred the mouse for the Wizard but for the others either is OK really.

The frame rate can drop a bit on the last level or two, but nothing unplayable. The game plays great. Get the game, you won't regret it. And make sure you try out some co-op. It's local only, but worth the time. It's actually more challenging than playing by yourself since you have to get multiple people past obstacles.

It's a shame because the game is really awesome. People should ge to play it regardless of platform. Go get it on Steam 360 only owners! I hear its on sale there now.

It went back to $20 this morning.
Don't worry though- it's not the first time Trine dropped to $5, and won't be the last.

Great, we're told about this AFTER the $5 sale on Steam for Trine ends?
I'm angry with you, Microsoft.

You wouldn't rather be angry with Steam for ending a sale?
Or angry with Sony for not enticing you to buy a PS3?
Or angry with Atlus for a premature press release?
Or angry with Frozenbyte for making the game multiplatform at all?
Or angry with Yourself for waiting so long to buy a great game?
Or angry with Your Employer that you thought twice about spending $5?
I guess Microsoft is just the easy way out for some people. C'est la vie.

I sent this in as soon as I came across it a few days ago. Granted that it's good pool to have some details behind the situation, but I was hoping that anyone who was holding out for the 360 version would be able to see it in time to take advantage of the Steam sale.

I was originally waiting for the 360 version of this, but picked up the PC version during the steam sale over Christmas for $5. Great game. Sad it's not coming to live. I could have seen myself buying it again for co-op play on the 360 if it was priced reasonably.

lol but at the mention of mass effect 2 no matter how irrelevant, joystiq rings/jumps on the "coming to ps3" bell .

Since when? Just yesterday in the NPD article they said this when talking about ME2's sales: "the not-available-on-PS3 Mass Effect 2"
