It's been a crazy 48 hours, thanks to all of the news coming out of X10. Attendees were greeted with various playable demos, a box full of mullets and, in the case of this post, the above trailer and gallery full of screenshots for Rare's upcoming XBLA port of Perfect Dark. Featuring graphics of up to 1080p and small grey alien sidekicks named Elvis, it's one of the more high-profile games coming to Xbox Live Arcade as part of the Block Party promotion.

I'd rather have 1080p Golden Eye.

Perfect Dark was pretty much the sequel to Goldeneye when it comes to gameplay. Almost all the weapons and half of the best stages are in Perfect Dark...

Did you get the joke? The "Golden Age" of Gaming?
Sorry dude. Get over it. Goldeneye is never coming to XBLA, for the same reason FioS is never coming to Houston, TX: too many dickweeds in the way.

Relive the 'GOLDEN' days of split-screen? I wonder if that might not be a hint of Rare's next XBLA title. Or I might be reading a bit too much into it.

They worked on making golden eye xbla, but as the story goes Nintendo, MS, and whoever else has their hands on the ip couldn't decide on how to split the profits, so they canned it. I doubt it'll be revived anytime soon. They decided to make Perfect Dark XBLA to replace it since MS has complete control of the ip.

It's the natural evolution of GoldenEye, a lot of the features introduced in PD were what people loved about TimeSplitters. There's a more involved story in the campaign, with more scripted moments, more exploration, a heavier reliance on gadgetry and such. Being a Sci-Fi setting, it ads a lot of cool weapons and weapon abilities (all weapons have dual functionality).
It's both single and multiplayer, with bot support and challenge maps. Has Co-Op, and an awesome mode called counter operative where a second player plays as a new AI character in the campaign trying to take out Joanna.
Perfect Dark a no brainer if you like GoldenEye or TimeSplitters.

Perfect Dark dominates Golden Eye in every aspect.

They should patch the multi-player for 16 people instead of 8. With stages as small as they are the chaos would be EPIC!!!

Day one purchase.
It would be nice if they remade some Goldeneye maps, that way the multiplayer would be just like Goldeneye xbla, without fighting over ip rights.
I still need to finish banjo-kazooie. I'm at the very end at the crossword/quiz thing.

They did. IGN says all the Weapons from Golden eye and the 3 best maps are going to be in this.

F*** Reggie!!! He's the reason we don't have Goldeneye on XBLA...

No, they can't do that since Rare is now owned by MS, not Nintendo. Plus, they've updated the faces to Peter Molyneux and Ken Lobb and some other MS developers they've yet to mention.

It really does look like ass. Like, really terrible. To the point where I'm leery of giving it another go, even for nostalgia's sake for fear of graphics induced barfing. Ten bucks IS really cheap, though. I'm sure there will be a demo for it, so we'll see how it actually looks on the big screen to see if I can choke down the bile enough to give it another go!

And before I get downvoted into oblivion, I am not hating on PD! I used to love that game, but something about the trailer makes it look like a lazy port to me. If you're going to do it, charge me $15 and make it at least look like Halo 3, you know? This half-assed Gamecube kind of look isn't doing it for me. This is not a Wii game. Regardless, we'll see how it goes!

Really? I thought it looks really good, considering it's a straight port of an n64 game. This isn't supposed to compete graphically with games like shadow complex or anything.
Lol, charge me $15 and made it look like Halo 3? It's an N64 port, not a complete remake. (Conker Live and Reloaded, that was a remake)

@ Jerk Face - Banjo Kazooie and Tooie were ported in the same manner, and they ran perfectly. They actually look pretty great considering their age too, they definitely didn't have the air of bile. It's amazing what happens when you take out all the N64 fog and up the resolution. I don't see why this should be any different, and that it's ten dollars cheaper than both of those games... What's there to complain about?
Maybe it's just the 'realistic' style that's throwing you off in comparison, but it looks far from barf inducing...

Lazy port? It has all new higher res textures for starters, and also has online multiplayer. A lazy port would be the exact same game completely non-optimized for the 360. This is a crazy good port. I think you are getting a "Remake" and "Port" mixed up.

Perfect Dark was pretty ugly even back in the day. Before everyone jumps on me for being a hater, I played the hell out of the game on the N64, and had a blast doing so. That alien rifle that shot through walls was the sh*t. But even then, I wished that Rare had better production designers. It's not about polys, but about color choices and textures. Whoever art designed Perfect Dark obviously never met a piece of hazard tape they didn't like.

I'd Imagine Nintendo (Reggie) would have been more open to it than Activision. Nintendo and Microsoft had a great compromise where they could release the remake on XBLA and Nintendo could still release the N64 version on Virtual Console.
Where Activision comes into the picture is the same story we heard every time EA tried to make a Bond game. Every press release, every interview, every preview and review, it all comes back to GoldenEye... How are they ever going to live up to it if they have to compete directly with it? They just can't, so they aren't relicensing any time soon.

I don't even want to think about the sheer number of hours and days of my youth I lost playing splitscreen Perfect Dark on N64. My buddy and I made a bot that looked exactly like Gary Coleman, giving him PerfectSim abilities. So hilarious turning a corner in multiplayer and seeing him coming after you.
I may just have to download this strictly for the shits-and-giggles factor.

I'm with you. Wasted far too many hours playing this. We rigged up an ice-pack for the expansion pack otherwise the game would become a slideshow and eventually freeze up.

What the hell? Was the Aztec level in Perfect Dark N64?? Or are they just adding the Goldeneye maps to this release because they have no idea when they can put Goldeneye out?
