It's been a crazy 48 hours, thanks to all of the news coming out of X10. Attendees were greeted with various playable demos, a box full of mullets and, in the case of this post, the above trailer and gallery full of screenshots for Rare's upcoming XBLA port of Perfect Dark. Featuring graphics of up to 1080p and small grey alien sidekicks named Elvis, it's one of the more high-profile games coming to Xbox Live Arcade as part of the Block Party promotion.

With this version you can now play those classic goldeneye levels with your xbox controller with friends and online. It's going to be a blast.

Screw that...if I want to play I'll just fire up the ol' N64 with my ORIGINAL copy that both still work...expansion pack included. My 5 year old lives for Mario 64. F*** You Microsoft.

I didn't know Rare and Microsoft were being such massive dicks for bringing out possibly the best FPS in the 5th console generation to the gamers now days with new improvements in visuals and frame rate.

Sometimes I wonder how people compare this to how the original looks. Do yourself a favor and go look at that game. Muddy textures, iffy framerate and the N64's required awful anti-aliasing.
If people think this looks just as bad they're just blind. Actually, that's an insult to blind people. You're mostly just stupid.

The visuals of this game are... weird. They're old yet new at the same time. It's like if the N64 was in HD. When they say HD remake, they usually mean completely remade. They really took that literally here, I see. It's kinda cool.

Haha ad the PD logo looking like an N.
Clever and a subtle nudge.

There was an N in the original because it was morphed from the N64 logo. It doesn't make sense to keep it in this version.

I wouldn't necessarily say Nintendo is the reason why Golden Eye hasn't re-appeared. The licensing of that title has multiple parties. It was created by RARE (now owned by Microsfot), published by Nintendo, for an original James Bond film released by MGM (now owned by Sony), based on a character owned by EON Productions (a subsidiary of Danjaq LLC) which owns the copyrights and trademarks to the Bond characters and screen elements. At one time or another EA and Activision have held the exclusive rights to publish games based on the James Bond license. Or in otherwords, it's a licensing mess.
Assuming you could get the necessary parties to agree, which is a hurdle in itself, it might simply be cost prohibitive to re-license. The original license to produce the game (way back when) has probably since run out.

cod classic is a better game than both perfect dark and goldeneye, if more people bought it and it supported 8v8 or MAYBE EVEN MORE, it would be a great purchase for $15

Haha, just enjoy playing an FPS with one analog stick now that you've done them with two.
Trust me, N64 FPSs do not age well.

Uh, I'd bet they've remapped the controls to be standard modern controls, with two analog sticks. They even use duel analogs for Doom XBLA.

The original Perfect Dark (and GoldenEye) had dual-analogue support as well, you just had to use two N64 controllers. It's pretty cool to go back and play it that way after playing newer games. Potentially cooler, Star Wars Episode I: Racer's dual-analogue support... sweetness.

I don't remember ever playing Goldeneye or PD with 2 gamepads . . .
If they have a modern control setup, that would be nice, but even then, I think you're gonna find that you're looking at the past through rose colored glasses.
For instance, I *loved* Ultima Underworld when it came out. In fact, it totally blew me away. The world was so real, so engrossing, that I had never even conceived such a thing before.
I recently loaded it up via dosbox to relive some of that, and you know what I saw? A 320x200 game with so much UI that the actual "game window" was the size of a postage stamp.
Always remember the past because that's how we got to the here and now, but never forget that while those games stay the same forever, everything else has changed . . .

thats it? the n64 game looks a lot better than this thing.
if u are going to make a game looks realistic at least make it good.
the n64 version was more like cartoon graphics and it looks a lot better than this shit.
in fact, why the hell did they bother to make this shit?, the only thing that they should have done was fixing the frame rate.

Day 1 purchase for me too, I don't care if it costs $20.
I still wish the mouths could move during the cutscenes and whatnot. I knew the N64 couldn't handle it but it was still funny looking at speaking heads with no mouth movement.

regarding the 3 control options comment. I hope they didn't modernize it in that they won't let you map the controls yourself.
I used to love the setup where you walked and strafed with the C-buttons (face buttons on xbox pad) and aimed/turned with the stick. Was so much more accurate than aiming with the right stick on future consoles.
