Hey, remember Black, the PS2 and Xbox FPS created by Criterion Games before it went all-in on Burnout Paradise? Turns out the name wasn't just short for "black ops" -- the senior designer on the title was Stuart Black, and the vice president of development for Codemasters has now confirmed that he's working on a new game in a new studio for the company. Black will join former game director at Sony London, Tom Gillo, and senior producer Andrew Wilson on an 80-person team working with Codemasters' EGO engine to develop the brand-new IP, which the UK's Official Xbox Magazine seems to be hinting is "the shooter that everybody asked for."
We've heard a lot of people ask for a next-gen No One Lives Forever sequel, but that's probably not what they mean. Black did have some nice stylistic twists, however, so while this game is definitely not a direct sequel (Criterion still owns that IP), we'll expect to see Black's ideas assembled in a new form.

I still expect to see something done with the Franchise.
Always thought that had a better chance of standing up to MW for EA than Medal Of Honor does

I think Medal of Honor is a more recognizable brand than Black was.

Such a fun game. Was lacking in the story department, but come on the cursor turned black if you aimed at something that could blow up.

Oh you had to remind me about No One Lives Forever, man FEAR is so bland compared to NOLF. Dam you sales numbers, I want my NOLF3! I haven't actually seen NOLF2 sales numbers, but I assume that is why we haven't seen a sequel.

NOLF2 wasn't as good as the first, and I remember being a *little* disappointed when I played it immediately after the first one, but it was still a good game and terrifically funny.

Is this that one game with destructible environments?

Oh hooray! Another fps game to possibly jump on to the modern day war story. Don't get me wrong, I'm just tired of the same things over and over again, to me its like reskinning a Mario game and selling it.

I don't understand, is this a new IP, or is it another BLACK.

"Codemasters working on new FPS from creator of Black"
It means that the people who made Black, are making a brand new FPS, not named Black, even though they made Black, you dig?

Silly people, Codemasters makes games with four letter titles now :)
It won't be White or Blacker or Black 2
It will be more like: BLaK

I wish it could of been Black 2. I actually just went through Black a month ago. man that was a fun game. Everything was all like *pew* and repeat. Those live action cut scenes though... those needed to go....badly. To make it worse you can't skip them!

True. =P
What i meant to say was *pew* repeat. Cause that game had exploding barrels/environments up the wazoo.

What made Black stand out was its absolutely amazing graphics. If they can't pull that off this time, then theres no real point to the game. Im hoping they can pull it off as I loved the first black game.

Agreed. Black had some of the best graphics late in the original xbox's cycle. It's unfortunate if you go back and play you find it hasn't aged very well in this HD era however.

Loved Black. Pure fun -- it was to the FPS genre what Burnout is to the racing genre. With that being said, I don't expect this game to be anything like it. I'd only trust Criterion with a sequel (these "GUY FROM TEAM A MOVES TO TEAM B AND MAKES AN UNOFFICIAL SEQUEL TO TEAM A'S GAME!" never really excite me).

Black was an incredible game, I must have beaten it 3 or 4 times. Really solid shooter that had some great re playability, I wish it was a bit longer and I wish it had gotten a sequel but this is good news anyways.

Yeah I agree NOLF2 wasn't quite as solid overall as the first one, it was a shorter game and the plot wasn't as interesting. It did have some great sequences like the tornado or the on-rails tricycle shooter sequence. I would just love to see Monolith take another shot at the franchise, though I fear it is not commercially viable (pun retroactively intended).
