Make sure to buy a box of Wetnaps along with that copy of the new issue of Edge Magazine, because that thing's got Crysis 2 details leaking out if it all over the place. We already know the game will take place in New York, but according to the developer, it'll be "a New York City like none in games or cinema." Crytek is more interested in having the city environment act as a focus on the action rather than a big open sandbox, so while you'll see lots of the city above, you'll only be able to travel in "constrained freedom," or only about "three storeys up and down."
The magazine also contains info about the new Nanosuit 2, which seems to augment not only your physical powers, but sensory perception in various modes as well, giving you the ability to hear conversations at a distance or see directional bullet trails or x-rays. The suit can also increase your powers of memory, apparently, as the devs promise the game should have "five big things you'll remember forever." Oh no, wait, wrong switch -- it was set on the increased hype setting there. Our bad.
[Thanks, Peter!]

Crysis isn't THAT demanding. That $800 Alienware M11x netbook can run Crysis at around 30 FPS. It is demanding when you crank it up to the absolute max settings, but at medium-high, a dual-core processor and a mid-range GPU is enough to play it at 30 FPS.

$800 is not a lot of money for a decent laptop. Especially considering you could probably find something for similar for less if you tried a different brand, as Alienwares tend to be overpriced.

@tenacious Yes, just 800. That really is cheap considering the PS3 launched for that cost, and if you really want the best computer you can, you can spend well into the thousands.

Then again, it IS crysis 2.

It's coming to the console so it should be much less power consuming than the first one or just the same, plus it's a pretty game even at medium.

All I can hope is that it doesn't turn out like FEAR 2, which didn't follow the cliffhanger story of FEAR 1. I hope that NYC is just one of the locations in the game, not the only location.
What happens right after the 1st game? Don't make it a side-story like FEAR 2, please!

I actually liked FEAR 2's sidestory approach. I think it worked really well. The game was still a letdown though, mostly because of the weaker weapons, lack of tilt, and how the multiplayer was awful compared to the first games awesome multiplayer.

Man the lack of tilt killed me! I thought I was the only one! I'm actually playing it right now for achievements, and even though ive already beaten im still getting scared and surprised. But man, I dont even enjoy the slowmo, but without it, feels like your guns dont kill anything. Still one of my favorite endings of any game though

Also, FEAR extraction point is what happened right after the first game. Monolith doesnt consider it "canon" but hey, you get to experience what little story it has at least

I don't think the ending of any game has shocked me as bad as the ending to FEAR 2. Damn, now I want to play through it again. Or at least finish playing the DLC.
I don't think that continuing as Fetal's brother would be that important in FEAR 2. His character has played his part and might as well have died at the end of the game. FEAR 2 lets you continue the story from another perspective which gives you a broader view of the games world, and shows that your character in the first game is not the only one under Alma's control.

I would have preferred playing as "The Point Man" at least because he didnt really have a name. I never cared for the kinds of FPS where your character is completely speechless, but even worse are the ones where you have a name and a past, but still never speak. "Michael Beckett" meant absolutely nothing to me, but knowing that he was in fact Michael Beckett at least in some part breaks the immersion. That ending would have been even more messed up if you had been the point man though

I find it sad the unofficial non-canon expansion "Extraction Point" follows the events of the main game but not the official sequel. Because you were the son of Alma, that explained your slo-mo powers. To get it with surgery in FEAR 2 takes away the mystique IMO.
I guess Monolith thought if the unofficial expansion pack already did it, they'd cover another part of the story and universe....

I'm fairly sure the real reason was because for most of the development process they didn't have the rights to the FEAR ip, so 2 was going to be more of a spiritual successor than a straight up sequel. Because it couldn't be seen as a straight sequel to the first game, continuity wasn't the most important aspect of the stories design, nor was the first games protagonist. They later regained the rights to the IP but by then the game was already too far developed to redesign the story as you would expect. In the end I think it turned out really well.

The weird part about that was they actually had the rights to the property, Alma, Fettel, etc. but Vivendi owned the F.E.A.R. name, so by all rights they should have made a sequel sequel. The unofficial expansion pack wasnt much of a sequel though. It had some great moments and the gameplay really improved with some sweet weapons, but it's story was even more "walk through hallways, get scared" than the original

A - it's being released on thr consoles, so you guys can relax, and
B - I thought I read somewhere that it will be more scalable than the original, so a wider range of PC's can run it? Or at least, if your PC can handle Crysis, i should be able to handle C2? Maybe I'm just thinking that because the engine runs on PS360 hardware, which tells me it HAS to be more scalable.

a lot of people here seem to not realize while it CAN run on consoles..that the console versions look about as good as low mixed with medium settings of Crysis 1. I'm 100% sure the PC version will look at LEAST as good as "very high" Crysis 1 with some settings and possibly better. They wouldn't screw over PC players like other companies do.

I'm predicting about 30 comments of people saying how only a supercomputer can run crysis. Well its simply not true anymore, Cryengine 2 scales pretty well and since Cryengine 3 is on consoles it must scale even better. If you have a 8800GT or anything better you'll be fine. Just hope they fixed the damn memory leaks!

I really hope they have AI that isn't completely retaded this time.
Everything about the first game was spectacular. Customizing weapons on the fly, amazing physics, open level design, nanosuit, boats, etc. It was all done spectacularly. But there's all of those things fell flat when the AI just magically knows where you are the second you uncloak. Or how they can see you from miles away while you're concealed in bushes. Add in that they don't use any form of tactics, they never even really take cover. They just kinda stand there and shoot at you. It was a good game regardless but the ridiculous AI was what stopped it from being a great one.

My first guess would be no. Especially about sharing levels across platforms. I don't think Microsoft even allows that. An editor is certainly possible, I remember there was a Far Cry console game that had a level editor. If so though, I can't imagine sharing being enabled on anything except the PC and PS3 because of Microsofts closed off approach for the 360.

Also, the PC version of the first game doesn't have a dumbed down editor for general users, it's the tools Crytek used to make the game. For the editor to be console friendly there's a lot of work to do to make the UI user friendly and the program to work within the confines of each console. For Crysis they just gave us the tools they were already using, but to create a level editor for consoles is a much more taxing task, which is why I doubt it will happen.

I really hope the game won't be "dumbed" down because it is a console multiplatform game. Of course the PC version will look the best but I hope things like level size haven't been sacrificed. Maybe that is why it takes place in NYC, a closed off area suited for consoles?
It would be funny if PC modders could make larger levels in the Sandbox editor than in the game itself. I just want to know what happens after the events of Crysis 1.

Shut up already. We get it, you want to bash consoles at every turn, it's becoming beyond annoying and to the point that I wouldn't mind seeing you on an extended hiatus. Just stop already, please. If it weren't for consoles you probably wouldn't be getting a sequel, since the first game on PC wasn't exactly a money maker.

It's ridiculous to claim "If it weren't for consoles you probably wouldn't be getting a sequel" just because Crytek is expanding to more platforms.
Do you think we wouldn't see a new MGS game if it wasn't coming to the 360, since Kojima is expanding to that market? Or the same with Final Fantasy? Crytek saw success with the PC version of the game which is why they want to expand it into other parts of the market. It means that the PC was a strong enough platform to lead to expanding the franchise, not that the PC wasn't good enough so they need to try the game somewhere else.
