We usually think we're too smart for FAQs, preferring the sort of random, only moderately relevant questions that no one ever asks. But the FAQ for Dragon Age: Origins Awakening does provide some pretty useful insight. For instance, we learned that the expansion won't appear on disc for PS3 owners living in Europe. It seems like an odd decision to make, but perhaps you European PS3 fans can enlighten us. Do you guys just hate discs without us knowing it? If so, why did you let us keep buying you all those discs for Christmas without saying anything? [Update: We just heard back from an EA spokesperson, who told us "Apparently this is a Sony Europe rule – you cannot have expansion packs be available on PSN and at retail. You can in North America, which is why we have both here." Huh, who knew?]
Less perplexingly, we saw that lovably grouchy dwarf Oghren plays a "large role" in the expansion, which is great news for all thinking people.

Pretty sure they'll be a disc version that'll include every DLC in 2 years.

Simple:
US: 1 language, 1 Box
Europe: 8 languages or so, 8 boxes, 8 different laws,...

Do California, Arizona and Texas count as South America?

California and New Mexico need to switch names.

Texas is about as Spanish as it gets in the US, at least in San Antonio. Hell, even our city name and some of our biggest attractions have Spanish names. Mission Espada? San Juan? Some weird ugly swirly thing downtown that was apparently a gift from Mexico?
Not that I mind, we do get some good Spanish food here if you're into that sort of thing (though nothing beats Don Cucos in LA/Burbank).

I don't like this DLC only business, especially for consoles. I wonder what people will do with their 360s and PS3s for instance when they want to sell them and have hundreds of dollars of Rock Band DLC tied to their account. I don't think they'd want to sell their account with their system would they?
I'd like all DLC to be released digitally as well as on disc form for ease of renting, loaning and selling.

All three of your reasons are the reasons DLC isn't normally available on disc. Developers don't make money on you loaning, renting, or selling your disc. Not to mention (but I will anyways) the additional costs involved with making the DLC discs.

Plenty of people buy consoles with games and DLC loaded on it. A couple weeks ago my friend bought a PS3 for $500 because it came with about 20 games
on the console.

Usually, but it's just like having a Steam account I would believe. If you sell your only PC and don't plan on playing any PC games for a few years (or you just really need the money) you could always try to sell the account with the computer.
I'd say PSN and XBL are probably like Steam in that regard, only, you know, they don't offer as many good sales and sometimes you end up with a yearly fee.

officialy speaking ofcourse, they only have to make the box english, in Europe you HAVE to make the box in every language.

It could be both, as the 360 is still getting it on disc right?
Or maybe it's because every PS3 has a hard drive while not every 360 owner has one, or at least not one with plenty of room to spare.
I imagine the expansion will be pretty big and I'm still on a Pro so I'm only rocking a small hard drive myself. As such I'll probably get it on disk for 360 as DLC takes up enough room on my hard drive as it is (Fable, Fallout etc.) While my PS3 has TONS of space thanks to the bigger default drive.

Before you make broad generalizations about discs vs. downloads in Europe, remember that Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty was download-only in America, yet also featured on disc in Europe. Food for thought.

I'm surprised sites are picking this up NOW. This has been known for at least a week, if not two weeks.
The reason for this isn't that it sold badly on the PS3 in Europe, that it has to be released in 8 versions for 8 languages or anything silly like that.
Sony simply doesn't allow content (or at least addons) to be released both on disc and digital format in Europe, according to BioWare's Victor Wacher in the following thread:

I'm all for choice personally I'd prefer to download an expansion but Return to Ostagar is still not on PSN, if Awakening suffers the same fate stuck in certification hell then removing the disk option is a really bad move.

that "delay" is not caused by sony anymore. someone on the forums talked with the EA support and it seems like the addon currently is NOT in the certification process. Bioware just lies about the status and wont give any updates.
You can read it up in the dragon age forums:

So this means that it can be digitally distributed via 36 as well? Good, didn't want to buy the Box itself.

I find the DLC vs Retail argument suspect... in the UK, PSN Downloadable Games that are also available for purchase on BDROM at retail includes 'WipEout Fury HD', 'Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty', 'Gran Turismo 5 Prologue', 'Pain', 'Warhawk', 'Siren: Blood Curse' and the upcoming 'GTA IV: Episodes from Liberty City'. Admittedly these are all self-contained games, rather than 'expansions' to existing games, but I find it hard to believe that Sony would demarcate in such a way. A sale is a sale.
The simple fact is that 'Dragon Age: Origins' hasn't really shifted too well on either console platform (nor PC) that much in the UK. It's already approaching the £25 retail price on shelves, from a launch price of £40+.

I live in Europe, in Romania, and I just bought from a brick and mortar store a copy of Wipeout HD, which includes the Fury expansion pack.
The rule is soooooooooooooooooooo stupid.
