Final Fantasy iPhone trailer has crystals aplenty

We're totally sold on the idea of playing Final Fantasy I and II on the iPhone -- and the gameplay-infused trailer posted above just solidifies our desire. However, as faithful as this adaptation looks, we're worried about the platform itself derailing the games' narrative. For example: You're facing off against Chaos; your four-hero outfit has been honed into a lethal fighting force; the fate of the world hangs in the balance. As your stock of HP dwindles, you summon all your strength for one last --

Today was the first time I ever played a Final Fantasy game. I am playing VII on my PSP. The reason is FFXIII, which is looking so damn amazing, so I thought I'd try out some of the oldies before going for the latest cake.
I'm not quite sure what to make of it. The story and world seem interesting, but those damn blocky graphics are annoying me! Maybe it was a "you had to be there moment", only those who played it back when it was first released have fond memories, whereas those of us attempting to see what the fuss was about are left dissapointed. I mean I can play the games I loved as a kid (Crash Bandicoot for example) without moaning at the graphics. I guess the nostalgia paints the graphics into a rainbow of joy.
Anybody else out there only just jumping on the FF bandwagon?

I felt that same way after playing VII for the first time. In fact, I was so turned off that I shelved it for months. When I eventually went back I blasted through it and loved every damn second of it.

FFVII blocky graphics age horribly. FFVIII ones are much more bearable, horewer. Personally I like VIII more that VII, but that could be just because I played both games in the past generation and not when they came out.
And if you don't mind SNES 2D graphics, FF VI is a pure gem, with one of the best stories in the series.

I think the FF bandwagon has pretty much come to a stop.
Play VII, IX, and III.

Why does this game constantly have to be reported? I mean there are so many other games I rather play from Square, Bahamut Lagoon, Romancing Saga?

and just what exactly should be 'new' about a nearly 20 year old game?

yep this is a port of the psp versions. i know because i played 1 and 2 on the psp. they are both exxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxcellent games. i think alot of people put these games off because they are 1 and 2, and they figure there are better rpgs that are worth their time. these games are totally worth it though. at the very least as you play through you can see how they influenced rpgs for generations to come.
im not going to spoil anything, but personally to me the story of FF 1 is the type of story that will always havea place in my heart :) and no im not talking about some romance bs

People are put off by I and II because this is like the sixth time they've been rereleased (also, the PSP versions were released at $30 and separately, that put a lot of people off).
They are definitely great games, and they hold up remarkably well. But seeing as they are 22 years old, and most of us have played them before (and multiple times across multiple versions and releases to boot), It's understandable why people aren't over joyous to see another port of the Wonderswan Color remake of Final Fantasy.

I know this isn't anything strikingly new, but wow, the similarities between some of these FF games and Golden Sun just kinda hit me, seeing it on that size of a screen...
I need to pick up some of the portable versions of FF, tide me over for GS3. Oh boy.
