Sonic 3 & Knuckles is probably one of the greatest platformers ever made. 26 stages mapped into 14 unique environs, tons of secret rooms, many alternate paths, and three characters who play very differently from one another (Knux in particular, with his lower jump, climbing and wall-busting abilities; he winds up going in completely different areas from Sonic half the time, and yet both paths still fit onto the same map)? What more could one ask for?

Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles separately... not as much. Sonic 3 still has some alternate music choices here and there (Knux's theme, midboss theme, and the late Michael Jackson's "Stranger in Moscow" credits theme), but S&K has nothing to offer that S3&K doesn't.

Knuckles in Sonic 2 and Blue Sphere are nice bonuses, of course, but S3&K is where the real meat is.

Sadly, most of the time Sega ignorantly advertise this just by saying "You can play as Knuckles in Sonic 3"

That's nice, but they're forgetting to tell people about the TONS of extra content like Hyper forms, the 14 emeralds, the extremely long selection of levels, etc.
They even forget to tell you that you can play as Tails in Sonic & Knuckles.

Everyone... just get Sonic Mega Collection for gamecube. It's like $7 used on Amazon and has Sonic & Knuckles plus all of the lock-on games, and a ton of others. Buying it on VC is a waste of money.
