Is this really necessary? It seems that everyone, including the homeless man that lives in a shopping cart has a Wii. I'm exaggerating for the people who don't notice, but if millions of people were clamoring to buy one when it was $250, then why drop the price? It doesn't necessarily seem like the recent price drop has had THAT much of an affect.

I think it's to compete with Microsoft and Sony. But still, if I could get a Wii for less than a PSP, that would be a nice deal. (Again) But, even so, the PS2 just dropped from 150$. That may be pushing it.

I would like to see the Wii come packaged standard with the Wiimote Plus. If they can get that integrated into the controller, that would provide incentive for proper support in Wii titles. That, in turn, would provide a whole lot better of a play experience. Even simple things like tilting the controller to control the lights in SMB Wii would be so much easier with precise axial readings.

Wait, wasn't there just a story about how it's again difficult to find a Wii? If Nintendo *still* can't keep up with demand, how would a price drop help?

Holy shit, I work at Target and whenever Nintendo is kind enough to trickle down about 20 or 30 to us. We sell those things in a day. People call, bitch, moan, complain, demand answers, ask for other places that can help them, then bitch some more, then hang up.

There is absolutely no reason for them to lower the price on these things, hell they could RAISE the price and people would still be suckin their dick.

Sad Really it was shown out of all the Buyers very few buy that many games for it.
Unless it's Lets Dance or a Nintendo Game.

So great games on the system suffer

What they really need to stimulate demand is a few more "must-have" titles. Not that Wii demand is in trouble, but they ought to recapture some of the hype from the first two years.

If they ever do another price drop, they should save it to when Galaxy 2/Metroid other M/Zelda whatever comes out.

That would be against the logic that's been working for them. For the Wii, pricing was never especially about "value," as it was for the competitors, or else it would have been slaughtered long ago (a console with 88 MB of RAM against a same-price console with 512 MB of RAM). Price drops are only to excite momentum in the face of a lack of system sellers. Coordinating a price-drop *with* system sellers (though only Zelda will sell systems out of those three, i say), would be counter-productive.

"In other words, with compelling motion control devices on the way from Microsoft and Sony..."

I think Microsoft and Sony need to prove that their motion control devices are compelling first. And we'll see that until they launch their games for those. In the meantime I think Nintendo is more than safe selling the Wii at that price point.

The only thing Nintendo has to do right now is keep up the demand with Wiis. When I work, I get ask all shift everyday "are there Wiis or Wii Fits in stock?". The price for Wii is not even a issue right now. It's just the demand for them.

Goddam I want a black Wii too! They pulled the rug out from under me mid-2004 when the revolution decided to be a Wii and it went from badass looking to meh. Hell, they could release it as a separate SKU like the 360 Elite with more memory and more controllers as well as overpriced for the additions and I'd slide my card through the machine happily.

Doubt it. Maybe we'll see the pack in bonuses get an upgrade by throwing in a Wii-Motion Plus, a Classic Controller, or Wii Sports Resort (or a combination thereof), but another $50 price point is a stretch. Maybe $20-$30, but $50 is a lot ot ask for after they went all that time at $250. Even if sales are lower and Sony and Microsoft both have two potentially incredible years on their hands I don't think we'll see another $50 price point for the holiday.

You know what does need a $50 price drop? The PSP Go. Sorry. Had to.

Why should you run away? For stating the obvious? I sadly picked up a PSP Go during Xmas for 250 and wow... it's not worth it at all. I still havent bought any games cause I dont plan on keeping it. Wonder how much it could go for on Ebay.

Would anyone be interested in one for 180-200 PLUS a 2 year warranty? It's in barely used condition, in fact I only used it twice so far. Still got the box, manual, etc. =P

Going to be a while, in all honesty. The only reason they would price-drop again is if they have another drought of system-sellers, and that isn't likely until 2011 at least.

Sheesh. They say this every year and it never happens. You'd think these people would be discredited, but I suppose their clients don't really pay attention to what's happening in the video game industry, really.
The funniest part of all this is that in addition to saying the Wii is going to crater in the face of MS and Sony's motion controllers, he ALSO says the DS is doing to collapse! Good lord, it's like they don't follow the industry they analyze or something!

I'm also not sure where this assumption that Natal and Arc are going to be successful are coming from. Add-ons NEVER are well supported. If these things are going to sell based on the software, that would be a first. There are 30 million+ Balance Boards out there now and maybe 20 or so Wii games that make use of the Balance Board, furthermore are MADE to be used with it.
...don't even get me started on Wii Motion+, either >:(

WHy would they drop the cost of the Wii again, it is out selling the other two even with supply issues. The Great PS3 resurgence has already slowed in NA as it appears to be returning to its third place pacing. I don't think Wii will be price dropped again till the other two systems show consistent gains over a reasonably long period of time. Now I can see them maybe adding some additional items to the Wii, but I don't see the point in lowering its price at this point. The other two systems just arn't a serious threat at this point.

Gamecube with the same graphics and motion controls. How much is a used Gamecube at Gamestop? That's what I would pay for one of these. Actually release it in black and get your head out of your ass and maybe I will throw in another $40 or so. $200 is highly overpriced for this equipment.

Yes, yes, yes I know that everyone is still buying them up but then again look at its market. Its all the casual people that would never buy a 360 and PS3 because it does not support games that interest them. These are the same people that have not been in the game market for that long and don't realize the lackluster @$$-raping Nintendo is giving them. Seriously if you want innovative motion buy a gamecube and huck it around in the house playing catch with the kids. Much more affordable that way.
