i'm not too keen on the wobbly jump, although I have to imagine Sonic is pretty top-heavy when his head is twice the size of his body

Seems half decent at least. What i would be thrilled about would be multiple characters. Such as my all time favorite, Amy Rose =]

Sonic's jumping looks really messed up, but overall, this gives me the tingly in mah pants.
...don't detingle my pants, Sega.

I'll never buy another SEGA XBLA game again. I own 3 and since i bought them on another console I cant redownload them again on my new one. Even with Xbox live. All my other games work fine redownloaded but the sega ones always say i need to buy the full version. I call xbox support and they dont have a clue what im talking about. F-You SEGA. BTW thankn for the new AVP. its awesome

It looks like it still needs some work, but Sega is definitely doing it right this time. I'll be buying this day one because even if it isn't as good as the original games, buying it shows that this is the direction sega should be moving in, not werehogs and black knights.

What they should have done is made it in old-school Genesis graphics. 8-bit graphics didn't keep Mega Man 9 from doing well, so why would 16-bit BLAST PROCESSING not do well?

I think this is a good balance. Classic gameplay and styling with modern graphics really looks fantastic. Mega Man 9 is cool because it's supposed to emulate as if it was actually an 8-bit game. Sonic 4 seems more about bringing the core gameplay from the original sonic games into the modern age, correctly.

I think my main gripe with making it modern is that the spin jump seems awkward. The old spin jump just looks better. Maybe if that was changed to be old-school, Sonic 4 would appeal to me more (not that it doesn't appeal to me at all). I certainly believe the spin jump is a core element of Sonic and if it stays as awkward as it is it's gonna be...well, awkward.

I have to call out anyone claiming "the game looks too slow". What exactly are you comparing it to? The old games weren't all that fast, Sonic could build momentum and start moving pretty fast, but the majority of the classic games moved at a much slower pace and had decent level design and platforming. I'm very pleased to see this game (technical issues aside) seems to be a return to that formula. You could see her begun to run fast before he got hit or collided with an object, which is exactly how it should be.

The Advance/Rush games on the other hand involved nothing but holding right and hitting boost pads to keep moving as fast as possible. This made the gameplay terrible, and most of the time you were just hoping you don't fall down some bottomless pit.

For those who may not have played the old games, please watch this video to refresh your memory of when Sonic had good level design/gameplay, and note how similar Sonic 4 looks to it.

How are sega pulling the wool over your eyes again? This game just looks like a cheap cash in. Watch sonic jump he's off balance for god sakes! The collision detection is terrible watch him try to get into the ring circle and fail 3 times!

Also why bring back Sonic 1's special stages. They were arguably the worst ones! Oh right cause it's "classic".

Are you people seriously judging this game based on one minute of footage of an ALPHA version of the game being played by a guy with a camera in one hand and a controller in the other? Do you really think this is representative of how the final game will play at all? Really?

Everybody knows that actual sonic 3d games are going downstream while games like Mario Galaxy were quite well-recepted. However, Sega is trying to make the "mario vs. sonic" rivality among fans reappear, making this game as a response to NSMBWii.

Now both Mario and Sonic fans are being transported back in time thanks to NSMBWii and this. all those fans who used to say Sonic games were superior to Mario's games back in Sonic's golden age are going to re-take that position and the war is going to re-start. oh boy.

Nevertheless, Megaman 9 and 10 >>> NSMB and Sonic4

About the spinning and foot blur.

1 I think it's very possible that Sonic's spin animation may speed up as HE does. IE: the faster he's running, the faster he'll spin when he jumps. Since he never really hits top speed on foot we'll have to wait and see.

Foot blur was mentioned already in that the guy just never got up to that speed enough. But also, as said as well, they've still got time to fine tune it.

Watch how the guy is playing the game "carefully" (HE'S HIDING SONIC'S ACTUAL SPEED!!!) #1. Watch in the beginning as he jumps over the first spring and down the slope and "accidentally" runs into the Motobug. #2. Watch how he bounces off the second spring and down the hill into the shuttle loop...FREEZE!!! (look carefully...Sonic's running animation changes!!! then he tries to cover it up with a quick jump off of the loop...FREEZE!!! Sonic's running animation changes again and the guy jumps again to hide it. #3. Watch right after he's coming out of the wall (THIS IS A NO BRAINER) he jumps right over the speed boosters and walks up the hill very slowly. #4. On the final spring in the video that he's jumping on and is "supposedly stuck"...(if you look extremely carefully, he's doing the homing attack on the wall so he doesn't shoot up the loop to blow his running animation again!!! Then he skips the loop altogether...I BELIEVE THIS VIDEO WAS PURPOSELY LEAKED!!! i kno this game "even in its early stages" goes faster than what everyone saw...if it wasn't purposely leaked then why is the "LEAKER" hiding Sonic's true speed...if you can, watch the video again you'll see what I'm talking about. Don't let him playing "BADLY" fool you into thinking this game runs slowly...

Hey you're right! At about 54 secs you can see his feet become a blur of red right before he smashes into the badnik!
