"It's not too surprising that the modes were cut, as it would require additional programming beyond simple emulation of the original games."

Ha, ha. Oh my.

Me, I'm not in the least bothered as I probably won't be playing this re-re-release. But more importantly, Sonic has always been a single player affair; the botched attempt at multiplayer in Sonic 2 sealed the deal for me. Sega should have gone the SMB route: you play, you die; I play, I die; repeat. And I was never a fan of the split-screen races.

I always thought the co-op 2P in Sonic 2 and 3 was pretty good. If you had a friend who was willing to play a near-invincible Tails who just happened to have a little trouble keeping up, the games could be a piece of cake.

And of course, they could always get back at you by messing up your chances in the special stages.

What? But it's not like the competition mode in Sonic 3 couldn't be played on its own...

If they've decided to remove the debug mode or level select, then that's an instant killer for me.

If you're gonna argue history, you should have pointed out the original game's Japanese instruction manual called him Eggman. He was only Ivo Robotnik in the states. Since then they've been schitzo about it until finally resting on Eggman around the turn of the century. Although it's been mentioned before by SEGA that Eggman is a nickname and Robotnik is his real name. Fail much?

Regardless, the point is Robotnik is a much cooler name for a villain. Eggman sounds like a MegaMan boss reject.
