It's the kind of game I don't mind them putting more and more time into getting right.

Agreed and from what it sounds like it's one of those games where the story will really get you immersed...

Not only is there a limit to my patience (don't care about GT5 anymore), but there's also a limit to the "time spent" vs. "projected revenue" ratio: the game can be the best ever, but if it doesn't make the money back, it won't be getting a (similar) sequel. Hopefully, it doesn't get delayed again.

...How fast does your flashlight eat batteries? I mean, shouldn't it take several hours at least? Ah well, that's nit-picking. I'm still excited for this game, if perhaps more than a little cautious.

I would normally complain about something like a flashlight draining batteries quickly... but considering how my favorite game of all time somehow has a suit where your battery power and ability to sprint are mysteriously connected... I find this to be a somewhat unimportant factor.

Maybe the whole "cheap battery" thing will be the equivalent to Cole's inability to climb fences. A great game overall but some silly design decisions that could have easily been rectified. Maybe Penny Arcade will make a good joke about the inability for Alan's flashlight to last more than 5 minutes. ;)

He said in the review that there was a button that increased in the brightness of the flashlight. My guess is that said increased brightness is what drains the battery so quickly.

You're assuming the batteries had a full charge. I'm hoping that you'll be searching out devices that have batteries, and using those, instead of just finding random batteries out in the open.

Hope it comes out good, but I'll always be bitter about Remedy for shafting us PC users, devs which once birthed on this platform have eventually grown to shun their very own parent !

About time I laid down a couple of Benjamins for the Satan-Box !

"Almost every Xbox exclusive has..."

Just going by MGS games here:

Xbox 360 Exclusives - Fable II, Gears of War 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, Kameo, Perfect Dark Zero, Halo Wars, Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise, Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Project Gotham Racing 3, PGR 4, Forza Motorsport 2, Forza 3, Too Human, Crackdown...

Xbox 360 Exclusives later ported to PC - Gears of War, Viva Pinata, Mass Effect.

Can we stop saying things like this? Because they simply aren't true...

Not to go too far off point here, but how about we just call these games Microsoft-exclusives and stop this ridiculous distinction anyway? It's like saying Little Big Planet isn't an "exclusive" because it's on PS3 and PSP, and that's just stupid.

Xbox and Windows are Microsoft platforms. That's an exclusive, gentlemen.

Now aside from all that, Alan Wake's devs have only recently said that the game will not be on PC. It's probably going to stay that way. I'm a PC gamer myself, and I hate that the platform is ignored by larger devs these days, but that's just how it is.

Sadly, it's been pretty clear that Microsoft isn't intent on bringing their 360 games to the PC. Their last two major attempts were Gears of War PC and Halo 2, and neither one did very well. Sure, Mass Effect 2 came to the PC but my guess is that it was more of Bioware's decision than Microsoft's.

@CaramelZappa: You would be right, because EA owns Bioware. MS probably has some kind of agreement to keep it on 360 and PC only.

MS has a vested interest in pushing the 360 over the PC. As Granger illustrated their interal studio games aren't releasing on the pc.

Other than an SOE game you don't see Sony making many pc games anymore either. In terms of the LBP comparison, they're really two different games. I think it's a matter of semantics when saying if a game comes out on the PC and 360 that it's not exclusive. If MS released all their internal stuff on PC and 360 there wouldn't be much incentive to own a 360. In that respect they'd be canabalizing sales of their gaming centric platform. It sucks for gamers who don't have a 360 but it makes sense from the perspective of MS.

It also sucks for people who still have a 360 but would just prefer having the game on PC.

The undeniable truth is that MS wants PC gamers to play on their Xbox, where they can gain more profit from their own closed-off and proprietary system than from the open system of the PC. If I was MS, I'd want the same. But I'm a PC gamer so I can't feel that way. : /

I had to really soldier through Dead Space & the last Silent Hill I played. I enjoyed both a great deal, however these games can get to be a little much for me when the game world gets really creepy and you get wrapped up in it.

Hopefully it'll be horror lite, and maybe a little more Twin Peaksy so I can really play it for longer durations at a time. I did Dead Space one chapter at a time :*(

I'm no horror connoisseur (thank god for Firefox's spell check) but I managed to get through Dead Space pretty easily. The only parts that really scared me where when the invincible thing would pop out. God how I hated that thing so much.

Now Silent Hill makes me jump. When I got the demo for SH4 I wanted to quit playing it as soon as those killer dogs showed up. I felt the same way during all the chase scenes in Clocktower 3. I was just so freaked out and scared, haha. "Oh shit, here he comes, oh shit... shit, I'm too scared, he's going to find me... oh thank... SHIT HE'S COMING BACK IN!"

I enjoy the scary games and don't usually get too freaked. That being said - when I played FEAR on PC I jumped a few times and then playing any of the Fatal Frames gave me the willies quite a lot. Those are pretty freaky!

The thing that still really upsets me is that they were touting all these awesome pc version phys-x weather effects like the tornado that can tear everything apart and insane quad core support. I have a feeling none of these amazing effect will even translate to the console version.. :(

Can't wait for this, thriller/mystery stuff is so rare and this looks pretty amazing so far.

It's good to know the controls will be tight, that's the biggest reason I've never been able to fully get into a silent hill or resident evil, they're just clunky as eff.

This game has the polish, story, gameplay, and visuals of the AAA blockbuster (from what I've heard out of X10...) it has wanted to become with all these years in development.

I'm happy the gods at Remedy used their time well.

I'll be waking up this May and starting off the day with a big nice scoop of the Alan Wake Limited Edition.

I played Alan Wake at X10, too. The batteries only drain when you're holding down the left trigger to stun/kill something. When you're just using the flashlight normally to look around, they don't drain at all. They even recharge slowly. It's a design decision to prevent you from relying heavily on your light, I think. The game'd be a lot less scary without it.

I hope this can compete with Heavy Rain. I don't really want to buy a PS3 for that. (Yes, I said it, and I mean it. IN MY OPINION, the PS3 has only one thing to offer that interests me: Heavy Rain)

One thing? You mean out of LBP, MGS4 KZ2, Uncharted, inFamous, Ratchet and Clank, The Last Guardian, Demon's Souls, God of War III, and Resistance, none are interesting? You sir, do not have good taste.

I think all have at lease some interesting titles. Like I bought an Xbox solely for Fable II but soon found out that there are plenty of other good games (Even though I don't have Live there are still a lot of good SP games)

Yeah. None of those you mentioned appeal to me enough to list them as reasons to want a PS3. Yeah, I would probably buy MGS, Resistance, Uncharted etc. used eventually, because I'm 'just not feeling them'. (I can't think of a better way to put that.)
I'm not saying I will get a PS3 and draw the line at Heavy Rain and never use it again after that, but no exclusives really bother me on PS3. Saying that, the only exclusives I would buy an Xbox for are Condemned, Dead Rising and Serious Sam HD.

LBP, Resistance, and KZ2 are all overrated. They're decent games, of course, but not the killer apps they're cracked up to be. Uncharted and MGS4 on the other hand, are definitely must-plays.

I'd argue that MGS4 is overrated as well. Amazing cutscenes, but the gameplay controls are fairly clunky and there's a really jarring change when you go from gameplay to cutscene. They seem so detached sometimes it feels like you're switching between a game and an unrelated movie in the same genre. Still great, but I'll never understand why it was so highly praised.

The only "killer app" that I think the PS3 has is Uncharted 2. If I had bought my PS3 for any of those others listed I would be feeling a lot of buyers remorse. Not to say they aren't good, they definitely are, just not good enough to justify buying a whole new console for them.

:P I think the problem is (just making an assumption and I haven't read every comment yet so sorry if someone already guessed this) but anyone with little knowledge is able to just torrent these games available for PC without any consequences except being unable to play these games online, bringing down the sales for them immensely. Companies became aware of this and since its cheaper and easier but not exactly better to own a console (without the frequent issue of needing to update graphic cards, processors etc etc.), their starting to side with consoles rather than PCs. Even real time strategy games are beginning to appear more often on consoles :/ so sad..

You're right. It's because they're stupid enough to think that 1 pirated copy = 1 lost sale, which it doesn't. They might lose a few sales, but the vast majority of pirates never would've bought the copy anyway. In fact, the vast majority of pirates I know only buy consoles that they can mod, which they can do with the 360 too.
