If Japan can do a Halo anime, Batman anime, and Witchblade anime. Why can't American/Western countries do anime/manga style drawing? Is there anything wrong with that?

There's nothing wrong with it. There's plenty examples of it done right.

Avatar The Last Air Bender, Teen Titans.

This is not that. This is done completely wrong, for the reasons I said earlier.

Western take on the nekomimi sub-genre?

Could be worth a look. Krome Studios has done some worthwhile stuff before.

wow, i thought this trailer looks awful, doesn't really sell me on the game at all. i'd be happy to eat my words if the gameplay is good, though.

I'll be interested in this if it's an honest-to-God cell shaded beat 'em up, like that image up top implies. If it ends up being another hack 'n' slash, color me disinterested.
The trailer, sadly, doesn't give any clues as to gameplay.

Can you explain the difference between a beat-em-up and a hack-and-slash, because I thought they were essentially the same, except one has weapons?

Yeah, the animation could be a little better. OK a lot better... they could at least TRY and make it look like it wasn't mo-capped using mannequins.

Technically speaking, there isn't a whole lot of difference. Hack n slash games tender to be a lot faster and have more dynamic attacks; the enemies are more often like cannon fodder, insofar as you usually just kind of plow right through them.

Beat 'em ups are usually more slow paced and you have to spend more time taking out the drones. It'll often times take a good 5-10 hits to knock an enemy down. In a hack n slash, you can usually take them out in 2 to 4 hits.
Compare Bayonetta to Viewtiful Joe and you have a good idea of the pacing and strategy you'd use.

Not that that HAS to be the case. God of War is more slow paced compared to DMC, Bayonetta or Ninja Gaiden, but still not as much as a typical brawler would be.
There's nothing stopping a beat em up from moving at lighting speed or a hack n slash from being something more methodical.

Basically, beat em ups are more likely to have enemies more strategically placed or integrated into the level design, whereas in a hack n slash, it feels more like blowing through wave after wave of enemy.

She looks suspiciously like another hardcore girl with a fascination for "hot bods" and "sharp tongues." Izuna anyone?
