Sega finally shows Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown

As the AOU 2010 expo gets underway at Tokyo's Makuhari Messe (also home to the annual Tokyo Game Show), Sega is showing its latest coin-op iteration of Virtua Fighter, called Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown. (Or: Virtua Fighter 5 Probably Not Really the Final Showdown Because the Game is Still Super Popular -- but we can understand why Sega went with the more pared-down title.)

So far, only a highly stylized teaser trailer for the (for now) arcade-only title has been released, along with a page on the official Japanese Virtua Fighter site that mentions (via machine translation) additional costumes, more character customization items and new moves. Of course, it's been almost three years since the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the Lindbergh-powered quarter-muncher hit the US, so we're not exactly holding out hope for this one popping up on store shelves in the States. But, hey, there's always PSN and XBLA.

I would be excited for this - as I was for five and the various iterations of four - but I've finally realised that I'm not good at Virtua Fighter. Well, not anymore.

Give me VF2 and I've still got the moves. But I accepted the skyscraper learning curve - all 70+ hours. I'm going through all that again, and my atrocious record at VF5 is testament to that.

Really? The training mode in VF4: Evo taught me everything I needed to know... So deep and so helpful..

Without that, I'd be lost in VF...

That should read "I'm 'not' going through all that again...".

Thinking back, the training mode in VF4 is pretty cool. Within a few weeks I was pretty handy with Akira's calculus-like moveset. The Playstation D-pad is glorious, the next best thing to a fight stick; the 360, on the other hand, not so much.

As far as trailers go...that looks pretty underwhelming.

That's because you don't play VF, that trailer was pretty much edge to edge new moves and abilities for each character so the hardcore players pretty much just wet themselves.

That they brought back Taka-Arashi (the sumo wrestler) is enough to overwhelm me. I was pretty choked when they cut him from the lineup.

That's nice.

They wouldn't happen to be the same voice actors would they?

What are the cross-sections of people who play VF, Tekken, and DOA? Does anyone like all three of those?

I know people who play VF and DoA, and people who play T6 and DoA..
But really, there are so few people who play T6 and VF.. If you like one, you'll most likely hate the other..

When are they going to upgrade the graphics past VF3??

When the Dreamcast 2 comes out.

I hope that was sarcasm, 'cuz if you want to honestly tell me that VF3 and VF5 look graphically similar, either your tv sucks or you need to get your eyes checked..

Graphics are pretty mediocre by the looks of it... but hey its cool to see dante is in it! never thought Id see a DMC character in VF, awesomez

I want it, but by now they really should have just made Virtua Fighter 6 already.
